What If: A Harry Potter Fanfiction

Most people never knew that Sirius Black had a daughter. Understandable, because Meadow Black was kept in an anti-aging spell for 36 years. Finally, she has awoken. Finally, she is off to Hogwarts. Finally, her life has begun. But will it end soon after beginning?

15. Christmas

Meadow woke up in St. Mungo's at 11:00 at night Christmas Eve. She was completely alone in the room, except for a group of flowers, notes, and cards on the bedside table. There was a dull pain towards the bottom of her ribcage, but other than that she felt fine.

Meadow reached for the nearest note. It was plain paper, with familiar calligraphy writing on it.

Meadow -

I have decided not to have you home for Easter, either. You should be ashamed of yourself, getting hit by a Muggle car! A real witch would never get hit by something as pathetic as a Muggle vehicle.

Mr. Potter is considering gaining custody of you from me. I suppose I will leave that up to you.

She sighed. Not a word of "get well soon," nothing even close. Maybe she should be adopted into the Potters. It would make life a lot easier and a lot less complicated.

The second letter had rounded cursive writing that she did not recognize.

Meadow -

I just heard you got hit by a Muggle car!!! Are you okay? Will you be better by Christmas?

Hogwarts is pretty boring without you, Scorp, and Al. I can't wait until school starts up again, then we can hang out.

See you soon,

She smiled contentedly, reading it in her friend's quiet, bubbly voice. The dim light filtering in through the full moon was putting strain on her eyes, though, so she put the letter down and vowed to read the rest in the morning as she fell asleep.

"She woke up sometime in the night." a Healer said.

"How can you tell?" Harry Potter's voice replied.

"A couple of the letters closest to her bed have her fingerprints on them."

"Ah. When should she wake up again?"

"If her vitals are telling the truth, she's awake right now."

Darn, she had been caught. She sighed and opened her eyes. "When can I go home?" she asked the Healer, who was a big and burly man in maybe his forties.

"If nothing's wrong with any of the bones you broke, then today." the Healer replied.

Harry Potter studied her carefully as she nodded, then he sat at the foot of her bed. "Meadow, are you happy with Vivian as your guardian?" he asked.

Meadow snorted. "Is that a trick question? Do you actually want the honest answer?"

"Yes, I do."

She sighed. "Really, I'm indifferent to it. She doesn't spend a load of time with me . . . nor does she try to. If she were to disown me, it would be more of a relief than anything."

Harry nodded and got up. "I need to discuss something with Ginny. We'll pick you up when your checkup is over."
