Accepting the Mark

Max has just moved and she doesn't know anyone, but a group of kids in her grade seem to know her and follow her around the school. She hears howling at night, and Max swears that it's right outside her window. When school starts to get harder and Max gets more stressed, she gets more angry. She's never been a violent teen though. But when the group of kids that follow her around tell her something interesting, will she choose to accept it? Or go on living in the dark?

7. Black wolf

I looked at my phone that the Frost's had gotten me, the time was 11:30. I looked out the window. Still no Zac. But I'm sure he would be coming soon. I grabbed a jacket out from the closet and put it on and found some black knit gloves then stood by the window. At midnight Zac appeared from out of the woods. I opened up the window and jumped out. I closed the window but left it open just a bit so I could get back in. I walked across the street and met him.

"What is it with you and midnight?" I asked as we turned and walked into the forest.

"I don't know, maybe its a wolf thing. Its when the moon is highest," he said. I looked up in the sky but only saw the dark storm clouds.

"But there is no moon tonight," I said.

"It's still a wolf thing," he pouted. I laughed. "Wanna race back to the den?" he asked.

"I'm not sure I'd be able to find it if I was ahead of you," I said. "I was the fastest at the orphanage," I said.

"Oh you'll be able to find it, just use your wolf senses," he said as he took off running. I took off after him and caught up to him. We ran next to each other but soon I past him. I took a right at a tree, I didn't really know why but it felt right. Then I took a left and in front of me was the den. It was pretty hard to see in the dark, but I could see it just fine. Zac ran up behind me, he didn't even look like he had just been running. I heard the metal door open and the boys came walking out.

"You came, didn't think you'd come," I heard Shawn say.

"Well I just had to prove you wrong," I said.

"Just like we have to prove you wrong," he said. Gosh he was annoying. I looked at Zac who looked like he was trying hard not to laugh.

"Alright mate, settle down," Zac said as he led me through the chain link fence. "Now we all know the rules of turning?" he asked as he looked at Percy. "You sure you can control it?" he asked as he placed a hand on Percy's shoulder. Percy nodded. "Alright then, I'll turn first and then you guys can follow," he said as he locked the fence and walked towards the middle of the large enclosure. "Max, I would stand by the door," he said. I nodded and went to stand next to Simon.

I watched as Zac knelt down. He placed both fists on the ground and closed his eyes. Then just like that he turned. Now he was a large black wolf. At first he was sitting down but then he came and walked over to me. I could see that his eyes were the same color, along with the fur.

"Do you believe now?" Shawn asked me sharply. Zac growled and looked at Shawn. Even as a wolf, he looked pissed off at Shawn.

"Yes Shawn, I believe you," I said as I looked down at the black wolf.
