The English Teacher

Two different people from two different worlds. Sounds cliche, right? But it's true.

First there's Charlotte Dent. The normal kid in school who get's pretty good grades. She's a senior this year but hasn't exactly been in a "real" relationship.

And then there's Ashton Keiler. He was a player in high school which makes sense due to his good looks and hilarious personality. He ended up being an English teacher at Oak Grove High School.

When their paths meet, sparks fly. But can they keep the relationship a secret long enough for Charlotte to graduate?

1. Charlotte

A tear slips out of my left eye as I feel a blow to the side of my head, and another, and another. I can feel the bruises forming on my shoulder and my right arm as well as a headache. He grabs my arms, pulling them to my back, assuring me that I wouldn’t be able to fight back if I tried. He pulls on them harder making me wince as a few more tears leak.

“I’m going to make you pay for what you’ve done.”

My eyes fly open and I take a look at my surroundings. Just the same old, small room of mine. I guess I really shouldn’t be complaining since I’m not living with him. I start doing my ritual to try to calm myself down and cool off a bit. These nightmares happen often so I’m used to waking up with them but living through them in my dreams isn’t so pleasant.

I take a look at my alarm clock resting on my bedside table. 4:54 AM. I set my feet down onto the cold, wooden floor, tearing myself from my warm paradise and into the cold reality. I shiver and begin to make my way down the stairs to the kitchen. I see my mum, Kristen, sitting at the dining table, drinking coffee and reading the newspaper.

“Hey, mum!” I greet, kissing her on the cheek. I grab myself a mug and pour myself a cup of coffee as well; adding the creamer and sugar afterwards. I head upstairs with my mug in hand. I had actually had something to do today! Well, not really. I’m just meeting up with my best friend, Poppy, to finish up an English assignment. We had to do a presentation for some Shakespeare thing.

I look into my mirror, brushing through my long locks of blonde hair and looking at my eyes. They’re a nice hazel color I’ve always loved. I decide to get dressed in a black Aztec print tank top but with a military jacket over it and some jeans. I put on some jewelry and some eyeliner, mascara and lip balm and decided to leave my hair natural today.  I put my laptop in my backpack and take my last sip of my now cold coffee.

I hope into my car and immediately turn on the radio. Music is my life. I Want Crazy by Hunter Hayes. It’s one of my favorite songs right now so I spent that part of the ride dancing and singing along. That is, until another song came on. I didn’t know what song it was nor the lyrics but I still did my best to sing along, throwing in a few dance moves in it.

Soon later, I finally arrived at Starbucks where we decided to meet. I see Poppy sitting by one of the windows facing the street. I go up to the counter to order my usual and wait for the barista to make it as I watch Poppy. She’s so immersed in her book she didn’t notice I came in. Once the barista finishes my drink, I head over to the table Poppy is sitting at. At that point, she saw me.

“Charlotte! I missed you, girly!” she shrieks, pulling me into a tight hug. She may have looked calm and shy while reading the book but boy; this girl is full of energy and enthusiasm.

“I just saw you yesterday at school,” I laugh. She’s bloody mad. I’m probably misleading you here. I’m not British, I’m American but I just like to use their slang and such.

“Now let’s get this over with. I have a date with Lucas tonight!” Lucas is technically her boyfriend. She had a crush on him for years before I finally convinced her to ask him out which brings them to where they are now.

I just wish I could have a relationship like them someday. They’re so cute together and I just… want that. I’ve never really been in a serious relationship. I mean sure, I’ve been in those middle school relationships that lasted for a week tops but I want something special; something worth remembering.
