Life in the Friend Zone

The Friend Zone is a real place. It is like a cross between a boarding school and a hospital. And Dakota Fenway knows it all too well. She entered the friend zone for the first time when she was in fourth grade. She is one of the only girls. The Friend Zone is a mind set, not a physical place. It connects all the minds together who are in the friend zone and you stay there until you break away from the friend. You are told no one has ever broken through the friend zone into something more because it would upset the balance. Dakota has entered in the friend zone once again during her senior year two weeks before prom. She is determined to get her friend Harry Warren to see her as more then a good friend. And no one, not even the Heads of Fate, are going to stop her. Watch as she jumps between the real world and Friend Zone and adds her own sarcastic touch.

1. Fourth Grade Formal

I opened my locker happily. The fourth grade formal was tomorrow and it was a turnabout. The girls were supposed to ask guys. I had about five guy friends, so hopefully I could ask one of them. Although I really only planned on asking a certain one of them, Jesse. He had been my best friend since kindergarten. We had planned on skipping the dance for pizza, but our parents both made us go, and my mom was driving us both`. I never thought of him as more than a friend, but ever since last month, I started noticing how cute he was. Soon, I had a full on crush on my best friend. I had thought about asking him, and today I was going to ask him.

As I pulled out my math book, Jesse walked up to me happily.

"You look excited! What's up with you?" I said. He continued grinning.

"Do you know Stacy Harrison?" he said. Of course I knew who Stacy was. She was the cutest girl in the fourth grade. All the boys in our group liked her, but never mentioned it when I was around because they knew I hated her.

"Yeah." I replied.

"Well, she just asked me to the dance! Isn't that cool? And she said her mom wanted to know if she could drive both of us to the dance." as soon as the words sunk in, my heart dropped. Stacy was  the girl he liked. What was I thinking?

"Jesse, I thought my mom was driving us?" I said, reminding him. His eyes widened.

"Oh my gosh, I totally forgot. I'm so sorry. Do you mind if I go with Stacy?" he asked.

"Yeah, it's fine." I said.

"You are such a great friend." as soon as he said friend, I blinked and suddenly I was in an all-white office. I was sitting in a chair looking at a lady behind a desk, her hair in a tight bun.

"Ummm...where am I?" I asked suspiciously. I was so confused right now. One second I was in the hallway, next minute I was in an office I'd never seen before.

"You have just arrived in the Friend Zone. Name please." she said politely. I almost laughed. Did she just say I was in the friend zone?

"What do you mean, Friend Zone?" I asked.

"You have just arrived at the place all minds go when they are told they are just a friend by the person they love."

"You can't be serious."

"But I am.  Name please."

"No, this has to be a joke. How did I get from the hallway to here?"

"The Friend Zone isn't a physical place, it is a mind set. Plus, time has frozen for now. Now, will you give me your name?"

"Dakota Fenway."

The woman typed on her keyboard and the computer beeped.

"Ah, here we are. Dakota Fenway, ten years old. Friend zoned approximately, just now because the boy you have a crush on is going to the dance with another girl and said you were a great friend." she looked at me sympathetically. "Typical."

"Okay are you just here to remind me the guy I like likes me as a friend?"

"No, I am here to check you in, show you around and tell you where your room is."

"So, when am I awake here?"

"Whenever you are asleep. Then your mind becomes awake in the friend zone and sleeps when you are awake in the real world. You may also come here at random points in the day, but time will have frozen."

"Okay, so any rules."

"Rule 1: When you are in your room, there is a giant mirror that covers an entire wall. You can have conversations in the real world and they will think you are right there when in reality you are talking to them in the Friend Zone.

Rule 2: You MUST go to sleep at 8 PM or your real world body will sleep in any longer you stay asleep.

Rule 3: You cannot break through the friend zone."

"Wait, I can't try to get Jesse to like me for more than a friend."

"Correction, you must not get this Jesse to like you more then a friend. It would upset the balance of the Friend Zone."

"What is the of the friend zone, then?"

"The point is that you can't get out of it. It's impossible."

The woman showed me my room, which looked like a white jail cell. The door was even barred.

"Welcome to the Friend Zone, Dakota!" she said, closing the door to the room, which seemed more like a jail cell.

I blinked and I was back at school. I smiled at Jesse.

"I gotta go to history Dakota, see you tomorrow night." Jesse said.

I went to the dance alone. Stacy and Jesse dance with each other even though turnabout usually ended with the couples splitting as soon as they got there to meet their friends. Stacy became Jesse's "friend" after the dance. He began talking to me less and less, and then when he hadn't talked to me for a week, I stopped coming to the Friend Zone at night. It was then I knew. Jesse didn't hang out with me anymore. We were,'t even friends. At the end of the year we went to different middle schools and I never saw him again.

I also thought that after Jesse, I would never return to the Friend Zone. I was very wrong.

Hey guys!

If you didn't notice, I changed my name and started this story. I got this idea after I friend zoned someone. Tell me id I should continue it! This one will  be my own attempt at humor writing.

Hope you like it!

Peace, Love, and Snickers!
