1. Prologue

I remember that day. The day I was born. Is that strange?

I remember opening my eyes and seeing everything for the first time. I saw my father's worried face, my mother's kind eyes seeping into mine. She was beautiful. Dad says I look just like her.

That day, I lost my mother. And my twin. You see, I was supposed to be a twin, but he didn't make it. Sometimes, when I see my dad depressed, I think, It's all my fault. My mom took her life, and so did my brother, but I made it. Not right. Not to me.

Dad says it wasn't my fault. That's just life, but I don't have to be here.

Ever since then, things haven't been the same, happy lifestyle normal families are supposed to have. Of course, my family's not normal. Why, you ask? I don't know why. Nothing feels right, that's all.

After losing two people that day, my dad and I moved back to Ireland, away from my four uncles. Uncle Louis, Uncle Zayn, Uncle Liam, and Uncle Harry. My dad and them used to be in a band but they hardly ever talk anymore. Who's my dad? Niall Horan.

And who am I? Camille. Camille Leila Horan. I look nothing like my dad. He has blonde hair, blue eyes, but my hazel eyes and long dark curls are nothing like him. But he always says how much I am like my mother. Serena was her name. She was beautiful, from what I remember. Dad says she was kind-hearted and loved nature, but he didn't know what she saw in him. I don't understand that. My dad is the sweetest man I know. Of course, he is my dad. But he's confusing sometimes. Like how he never eats in front of me. But I'm confusing sometimes too. I see things. Strange things in the shadows. By strange, I mean red eyes and a twisted smile staring back at me. One day, I was walking down an alley and heard weird noises. And then, black streaked past my face, and out the corner of my eye, someone, something I've never seen before. I've seen these things for as long as I can remember. Once I told my dad, and he didn't take it well. His face grew weary, and he told me never to tell anyone. I didn't think it was a big deal, but he got scared and looks at me strange sometimes. Occasionally, while we sit silently at the dinner table like every ordinary day, he asked if I've still been seeing these things. I reply with a yes, for I never lie to my dad. His face grows dark again, and leaves the table.

Anyway, everything is always so dark. Everywhere it seems like. Every time the sun shines through my little window, my dad stays in his room. Every mornings the same. I wake up, get breakfast, without a trace of dad. Take the bus to school. After constant name-calling and teasing, school's over and I go home. Once I get home, I do homework and don't see my dad till it gets dark.

My life is dull. I want to get out and see the world, but same story everyday. And I'm already 15!

There's got to be something I can do, and I'll figure it out.
