When We Run

Your life can change in a heartbeat.
I walked downstairs and when I came back, everyone was dead and everything was over. But I survived and I ran.

38. 38.

I wake up in the middle of the night, thirsty, so I slip out of bed, careful not to wake Evan up and tiptoe out into the living room, ready to go into the kitchen.

"Are you getting a drink?" I hear Jake whisper.

I stop in my tracks. "Yes."

"Can you get me one please?"

I frown, turning around and looking at him. "Did you just actually say please?"

"But you're mean."

He laughs, genuinely sounding amused. "No, I just don't like Ezra."

"It's Evan."

"Sure it is."

"Why don't you like him?" I ask, confused.

Jake shrugs. "He's just really freaking protective over you, isn't he? Don't you find that annoying? It's like he trusts nobody, not even you, if they go near you."

"That's not a bad thing." I tell him.

"He could have killed me for making one joke about having sex with you, that's a bit... I don't know, he's just a bit uptight isn't he?"

It's weird. It's not like he's not arrogant right now because he is, but there's not a full on show for other people on right now. I still dislike him a lot though.

"I just don't think you get it." I shrug. "Once you experience it, you'll understand more."

He shrugs too. "Maybe."
