My Hero Didn't Come

This story will have no names and no locations. It is all up to your imagination to fill in the blanks. I'll set up the basic story line, but you, the reader must do the rest. I am not saying that this is about anyone in particular. I just figured it is easier to say no names or locations and to just tell what happened. If you want to know where I got my inspiration from, listen to these songs: How to Save a Life-The Fray, Holding Out for a Hero-Ella Mae Bowen, Hero-Enrique Iglesias, Chasing Cars-Snow Patrol, Arms-Christina Perri

1. Step one...

You say, "We need to talk."

He walks, you say, "Sit down. It's just a talk."

He says, "Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend somewhere along in the bitterness. And I would have stayed up with her all night, had I known how to save a life." He cups his face in his hands and slowly, tears trickle down his face. "I know that she was hurting, but I didn't know how much. She tried to slip past my defense. I let her die!" The quiet sobs became loud and uncontrollable.

You just sit and watch, trying to console. You simply say, "I pray to God she hears you. I know that you told her all along, and I know she needed a hero. She needed a white knight upon a fiery steed. She needed you."

He raises his voice from the hoarse whisper and says, "Why wasn't I listening to her? She said she needed help, she said she wanted me to be the one to comfort her. I let her drive herself home that night. I watched as her tail lights reached the turn. I watched her turn away, unprotected and not able to carry on with us. I let her slip away. She could have been saved."

You lower your voice, making sure not to say anything that would upset him. You leave with these word, "Now I wonder who is the hero compared to who needs the hero."

 "Wait, will you help me?

 You turn around, "With what?"

"I need someone to talk to. I need to tell someone about her last night and why I couldn't be her hero. I need not someone to understand, but just to listen and console. Will you just listen and wait until I am finished to give me comfort?" He asked with a glint of happiness in his eyes. It was just barely there, the rest was dripping with despair.

You say, "Yes, I will listen and console.I promise."
