25. School Stories

Molly dragged her feet tiredly along the pavement. She hated the first day back of school, it reminded her that summer was now over, not to return for another year. She hated seeing all the stupid boys kicking a football around the playground, seeing all the strict teachers watching the hyper children with moody looks plastered on their faces and the disgusting smell of disinfectant from the desks as she walked into the classrooms. As she neared the staggeringly bright yellow gates leading into six and a half hours of gloom, she reminded herself about the one good thing that comes out of coming back to school. Her friends. Putting one foot into the gravel behind the school gates, she heard the un-mistakable screech from her best friend Holly.

"Molllllllllllly!" she cried, running full pelt towards her best friend. Molly had forgotten her best friend was the fastest athlete in the school.

'Hey, Molly, how are you? What's up? What did you do in the summer? Oooh, you moved house didn't you! How is it? Is it old? Is it huge? Is it small? What's your room like? Did your Dad let you paint it purple like you wanted? How was Spain? Did you go to Spain? No, you didn't. That was Eva. So, what's up?' Molly had also forgotten her best friend was the most chattiest in the school. Laughing, Molly eyed her other best friend and waved.

'Hey, Eva, over here!' It wasn't until Eva got up close Molly saw how pretty she was. Her pale skin had been replaced by a tanned look, her arm was coated in bracelets, her legs had grown longer as well.

'Hey guys, what's up?' she asked smoothly, smiling a bright smile.

'Not much. What did you do in the summer?' asked Holly and Molly rolled her eyes.

'Oh, you went to Spain didn't you? Yeah, that's why you look so pretty. Did you know Molly moved house?' Eva gasped.

'Oh, yeah! So, how is it? Is it all spooky with creaky floorboards and spider webs? Did you find anything creepy? Like a dead body or a skull or some sort of mutant, giant tarantula that is planning to gobble everything up?' Molly couldn't help but laugh. All though her friend was pretty now she was still the same old gruesome-loving Eva.

'Nah. I found one thing though. It's this notebook and inside is the story of this girl and boy. I thnk she used to live in my new house. I finished it yesterday and it sounds like the boy died. Shame.' She shrugged it off lamely but Eva's eyes widened.

'Cool! Maybe his ghost is spookily hunting your home! Ooh, maybe you'll wake up and find him standing next your bed! Then you can claim you've seen a ghost! People might think your mental and stick you in a loony bin, but I'll believe you!' Molly laughed along side Holly but Eva looked serious.

'Sure,' joked Molly. The tinny sound of the bell rang loud and clear making Molly sigh. Those six and a half hours of gloom have just started...
