Finding Me

Haven’t you ever felt like there has to be more? Like there’s more out there somewhere, just beyond your grasp, if you could only get to it?”

That is the question that Kathalyna asks herself all the time. Come join the journey as Kathalyna searches to find who she really is.

1. Summer is over

I woke to a beam of light slipping through my curtains hitting my face.  It was a sun filled morning as it usually was in the month of August in Florida. Not wanting to get out of my warm and cozy bed, I pulled the blankets over my face blocked out the sun.  I laid there motionless wishing I could turn back time making it to where I could go back to bed. Knowing that it is impossible for that to happen, I lazily climb out of my bed slipping on my slippers.

Today was the first day back at school, which means that summer has official come to an end. It was my final year in high school and I all ready want it to be over with. I walked into the bathroom hoping into a short shower. After refreshing  myself with a steamy shower wrapping a towel around my body and hair I walked over to my closet. Throwing out ever piece out of my closet searching for the perfect outfit; I settled on a black crop top, a pair of white skinny jeans, and my black combat boots. Slipping on my apparel I walked back into the bathroom to fix my hair and makeup. For my hair I brushed my brown curls making them look like waves. For makeup I outlined my eyes in black eyeliner with some mascara and added some red lipstick.

I walked down stairs to she my mother in the kitchen cooking the first day if school breakfast. The first day of school breakfast is a tradition that my mother started the year my old brother, Silas, started school. On this morning my mother fixes a feast that is fit for a king.

My father sits over at the dinning table reading the daily news paper and drinking his coffee as he always does. I don't understand how he is able to drink his coffee completely black. I personally have to have tons of cream and sugar in it for me to drink it.

I walk over to the bar talking a seat in front of a plate of pancakes. Grabbing the maple syrup I drown my pancakes, making syrup drip of the plate.

"You ready for your first day of school in your last year of high school?" My mother asks standing over by the stove fixing eggs.

"I guess so." I say shrugging my shoulders. "I just want to get it over with."

"Don't worry honey. Before you know it you will be waking up to the last day of school. So try to enjoy your senior before its to late."

"I'll try." I say stuffed a bite off a pancake into my mouth.

As I took my last bite of pancake, finishing my plate, I hear a car horn from outside.

"That must be Hanna, I got to go." I say getting up from my seat and placing my plate in the sink. Kissing both my mother and father on the cheek and saying bye to my brother, I grab my bag and head to the car.
