Life is life, nothing more. That's all there is to it inside the Box. It runs like clockwork, everything perfected. No wars, no pain, no dirt, no unhappiness, but that leaves you with no love, without dreams, without free will. There is nothing outside the Box, and everyone knows that, knows that there simply can't be more than there is. The Gems (the rulers) keep everything in order, and it is everyone's sole goal to become one. Saoirse Rose has her eye on Head Gem, and it seems likely, with her spotless record and her father being the current Head Gem.
But might there be more than this?
Shortlisted in the Might there be more than this comp. :) :) :) Please comment and tell me what you think.

1. Prologue

As I look out the window I see;

The moonlight dancing on the ocean blue,

bringing light to hearts where darkness grew.

Making sand sparkle in the ocean lagoon,

where dreams and wishes begin to bloom.

Then the light washes the darkness away,

turning hate to love and night to day.

Staining the sky with the pink light of dawn,

all the darkness in the world is suddenly gone.

But alas, I sit alone, singing in my cage,

while for others the whole wide world is their stage.

Some shoot for the moon or reach for the stars,

but I spend my days stuck behind bars.

I sing songs of freedom, that all can hear,

yet not a soul listens to my songs of tears.

They don't understand my dreams and desires,

freedom alone is all I require.

I can see freedom clear as day,

I stretch to reach it, but in vain.

Others fly  above the clouds in the bright blue sky,

they fly over the rainbow so why can't I?

I stare at my reflection in the glass and see,

shattered hopes and broken dreams

I see sparks that have flickered and died,

and a yearning for freedom, for the world outside.

So I open my mouth and burst into song,

showing you all that I belong,

in the world outside where I can spread my wings.

And that is why the caged bird sings.

Every muscle in my body is pumping. My feet are barely touching the ground, as I hurtle forward, into the darkness ahead. Each step propels me forward, closer and closer. A light flickers ahead, and I sprint, my muscles groaning under the pressure. As I near the light, it takes the shape of a girl in a white dress, laughing, and beckoning to me. Ten more steps, nine, eight, seven, six, five- Crash, I slam straight into a wall. The impact throws me off my feet, sending me crashing to the floor. A jolt of pain spreads through me, and I take a sharp intake of breath. I leap to my feet, and stare pleadingly at the girl. She laughs, and beckons me forward. I scream, but no sound escapes my mouth. I slam my fists against the wall, but to no avail. The little girl in white starts to skip away, and as I scream, begging for her to return, she spreads her wings, and takes to the skies. As I start to fall back into consciousness, the little girl has gone, and the dream is forgotten.
