The 64th Annual Hunger Games.

In Panem there's a game. It's not a pleasant game, it's just sick.
Children are chosen to fight to the death. Killing each other for the prize to be a victor.
Becoming a victor means you are bathed in riches and are made famous throughout all of Panem. I come from District 1 and were one of the richest districts. We're also trained in the art of survival, I am actually quite skilled with knives.
In my district it's supposed to be an honour to compete in the games but in reality I am completely terrified to ever have to enter the arena.
My father once won the games and he has set a bunch of rules for me if I ever of them is to not fall for any of the other tributes.

And that's exactly why I am screwed.

9. The Arena

Imogen's P.O.V

Last night I couldn't fall asleep, tomorrow was the games. I was shaking all night and nearly started crying. When I finally fell asleep I was in a nightmare.

"Help, Help!" I screamed. Another tribute sat on top of me with a knife, carving into my skin. Blood trickled down my face and I started screaming. Suddenly I felt a cold rush through my veins and everything went black. I was dead, still, cold, nothing.

I screamed and woke up with sweat dripping down my face. I realised I was sobbing a bit. The clock read 5:00AM, I was supposed to meet the other tributes at 9:00. Four hours. I didn't want to sleep again. Every time I closed my eyes a cold feeling overwhelmed me. I sat around for a while, getting bored. My lips were cracked and dry, I crept out of bed and snuck to the kitchen. Grabbing a glass of water gulping it down. I heard a creaking sound frightened I walked to the next room. Destiny was slumped against the couch binging on chocolate. She only had blush,  lip gloss and her hair was loose. She looked very different with out all her make up and accessories.

"Destiny?" I asked sitting down. Her face went completely red and she tried to hide the chocolates.
"It's alright I like chocolates too," I said trying to make her feel a bit better. She gave me a weak smile.
"I just get so stressed before every hunger games," she admitted. I laughed very nervously.
"You nervous? Why? Luke and I should be the nervous ones!" I said. She held my hands.
"Of course I understand that darling. But I am nervous for you, getting to know you and then you have to di-" she cut off shaking her head. Her eyes fell and I didn't know what to do. I gave her a big hug and I sobbed into her shoulder.
"It's alright, your going to be alright. Your strong I know you can do this," Destiny said patting my back.

I walked into my make up station and no one was there. I sat on the bed dangling my feet.  Hunter walked in and I knew it wasn't accidentally. He came up to me and I grabbed his face with my hands. Pulling him into a kiss, it was passionate and warm. Daniel came in solemnly. We pulled apart and Hunter left with a wink.

"Hey Imogen," he said giving me a little hug. He handed me the training outfit and a rain jacket, identical to everyone else's. He hid my locket beneath the jacket putting his finger to his lips.
"Good luck I believe in you," he said.
"I bet you say that to every tribute," I laughed. He knew it was a joke but my face still fell.
"No I really believe in you, more than the others. Your strong, brave, talented," he said smiling. His words gave me hope and my heart swelled.

Soon we were walking together into a smaller room. It was completely grey, had no windows and the air was tight. There was a tube in one corner and a robotic voice told me I had 30 seconds.
"You'll be great," Daniel said. 20 seconds. I gave him another short hug. 10 seconds. I walked slowly over to the clear cylinder. Suddenly the door shut behind me and I was trapped. Daniel smiled but his eyes were full of worry and sadness. I was moving upwards and couldn't see Daniel anymore.

The tube went back into the ground and I felt the cold air rushing around me. I looked around and the other tributes were standing in a circle. Some looked worried and some looked excited. I booming voice signalled a countdown. 50 more seconds before the bloodbath. I chill ran through my spine... 3.... 2.... 1. I sprinted into the Cornucopia. Grabbing bags of supplies, a pack of knives, a bow and arrow. Weapons flew through the air and screams filled the arena. I heard the booms of canons, signalling tributes were already dead. I sensed someone behind me and I slung a knife, hitting them in the chest. I was about to run for the forest when someone grabbed my shoulder, panic rushed through my bones. I spun around and saw Carta, I felt a bit relieved.
"Are you coming? Or not?!" she said gesturing to Jagger and Luke. 'The Careers.' I nodded. We ran into the forest together. Carta and Jagger were jumped around, shouting. Luke came over sighing.

Suddenly another canon boomed, another fallen tribute. It was getting dark.
"Campfire?" Carta asked. I frowned shaking my head.
"Are you crazy? Someone could find us!" I said shaking my head. Jagger scoffed and started laughing.
"No one would go against us careers," he shouted happily. Luke also started laughing and Carta gave me an unappreciative look.
"We shouldn't under estimate the other districts," I said. Every one went quiet. I rummaged through my backpacks, dry food and an empty water bottle. I chewed on the dry apples. Suddenly light erupted in the sky and everyone looked up. The Capitol logo. All the dead tributes pictures appeared in the sky. Not many of them were familiar to me. I counted every face, 11.
11 children had died in the bloodbath.

Now they were only 13 left.
