5. Chapter 3

Dallas' s p.o.v.

What just happened?!? One minute, we were chilling and playing around, the next, I'm pushed against the wall and Angel jumps out of the window.

"What's going on?!" Alex said, rushing into his room.

"Y-your sister..." I stuttered, still stunned from hitting the wall.

"What did you do?!" He asked me eerily.

"Nothing! I swear it! All I did was touch her cheek an-"

"YOU DID WHAT?!?!" He yelled at me. "ARE YOU MENTAL!?!?!?"

"What are you talking about?" I asked. He punched me in the face. Hard.

"Alex!" A lady gasped, passing by the door.

"GO AWAY MOM! YOU HATE ANGEL!" Alex yelled at her.

"Calm down," Mr. Rhodes said from behind Alex's mom.

"Where did she go?" He asked, handing me a wet towel.

"I don't know. She jumped out of the window," I said, holding the towel up to my bleeding nose.

"She'll be back, Alex," Mr. Rhodes said, putting a hand on Alex's shoulder.

"I'm going to go look for her," Alex said, grabbing his keys off of his bedside table and leaving.

"If you don't mind my asking, what juat happened?" I asked, directing the question at Mr. Rhodes.

"Come with me downstairs and I'll explain everything," Mr. Rhodes replied in a grim voice.

Angel's p.o.v.

I was sitting by the lake with my knees to my chest. My wings were wrapped tightly around me and I was sobbing hysterically. The warm touch of a human only brought up memories. Horrible memories.

"I HATE YOU DALLAS! I HATE YOU!" I screamed into the wind.

"Angel. Are you ok?" I heard Alex ask.

I felt his arms trap me in a hug. I sat there crying into his shoulder for what seemed like hours. When I was all cried out, he picked me up and put me in his car. I drifted off on the way home.

 Dallas' s p.o.v.

"Wow," was all I managed to say.

Apparently, Angel was normal, but her mother gave her up for scientific testing when she was only five. Her testing left her broken, and she's still rejoining society. I had just set that process back about a month.

No one except Angel knows exactly what happened, but she refuses to tell anyone. That explains the wings and the fangs. Before me or Mr. Rhodes could say anything else, the front door creaked open.

Alex stood in the doorway for a second before disappearing. He reappeared a minute later with a sleeping Angel in his arms. His shirt was wet with what seemed like tears, and Angel's face was red and puffy.

"I found her. I'm going to put her to bed," Alex whispered, heading toward the stairs.

"Make sure she has a drink beside her bed in case she wakes up thirsty," Mr. Rhodes whispered back. Alex nodded before going upstairs.

"Excuse me," I said, getting up and following Alex.

"Night, sis," I heard Alex say from the room next to his. I saw him put Angel in bed and exit the room, closing the door quietly.

"Hey. Is she ok?" I asked once he had completely shut the door.

"Yea. Sorry about earlier," He said, gesturing to my nose.

"It's ok. I didn't know," I said awkwardly.

"Does anyone really know?" He asked, descending the stairs.

He came back up a minute later with a styrofoam cup in his had. I could only guess what it was. He entered Angel's room quietly and sat the cup on her bedside table.

"I should probably get going. I don't live too far from here anyway," I said, looking out of the window. The sun was setting and my mom would kill me if I wasn't home by dark.

"Ok. You should steer clear of Angel for a while. For your sake and hers," Alex said, walking me to the door.

"Sure," I said, although I had no intention of staying away.

The weekend passed by quick enough and I couldn't wait to see Angel again. When Monday finally arrived, I was the first one to arrive at school. Or so I thought. When I entered AP English, Angel was, as always, sitting in the back with her head down.

She lifted her head for a second, looked at me, and dropped it back onto her desk. She looked different. Her hair was limp, she looked lifeless, and she was dressed from head to toe. She had on super high top converse, black jeans, her biker jacket, a green t-shirt, black leather gloves, and a grey beanie.

I decided to sit in the chair next to her, but she just ignored me. I wish Kim would've done the same. When she saw me sitting next to Angel, she slipped herself into the seat next to me and flirted with me non-stop the entire class period. Angel didn't talk once until calculus.

"Ms. Rhodes! Would you mind taking off that hat and sitting up? I bet you don't even know what we're talking about!" Mr. Monroe griped in the middle of class.

"Do I have to?" Angel asked, not bothering to sit up. Her voice was hollow and sounded dead.

"If you can come up here and tell me everything I've told the class so far, then no, you don't have to," He said smugly.

Angel stood up slowly, walked to the front of the class, looked Mr. Monroe dead in the eyes, and recited every single thing he said since class began, including his little challenge.

"Does that prove I'm listening?" She snarled, walking back to her seat.

Mr. Monroe sat there stunned, then gave us free time of the rest of class. Angel pulled out her mp3 player, put in her earbuds, and put her head back down. I watched her until the end of class, subconsciously answering Kim's questions.

During lunch, she completely ignored me, except for when I tried to touch her and she hissed at me.

    Angel's p.o.v.

After lunch, I decided not to change today, but just put sunscreen on my face. I naturally burn easily, and being what I am doesn't help. Coach Grayson didn't say anything. She probably realized how worn out I probably looked. I walked outside and sat against the wall, right under the hole I made Friday. I pulled my knees to my chest and buried my head in my arms.

"Hi Angel," I heard Dallas say after about ten minutes.

I looked up to see everyone dressed in their gym uniforms. I pulled my water bottle out of my bag and took a sip from it quietly. I've been unusually thirsty since Friday, and school with all of these humans around me is torture.

"Talk to me. Please. Tell me to go away even. Just say something," Dallas said, carefully taking my gloved hand. I pulled it back and slapped him.

"Well that's a start," He said with a smile, holding his hand up to his cheek, where a red mark was already starting to form.

"OHMIGOSH!! Dallas! Are you ok?!" Kim said, rushing over.

"HOW COULD YOU, YOU FREAK!?" Kim yelled at me, taking Dallas away.

I could feel myself getting angry as she pushed me over the edge. I was already pissed with this insane thirst, and being called a freak by someone that should only be used for food just angered me more. That just wasn't the day. I stood and make my way over to Kim slowly. As I took each step, more of the class fell silent, and by the time I got to Kim, it was completely silent.

 Dallas's p.o.v.

"I'm fine Kim!" I said, pushing the blonde away.

By then, the entire class had went silent, and I could tell why. Angel was making her way over to Kim with that same eerie glow in her eyes.

"Ummmmm, Kim?" I said, keeping my eyes on Angel. Kim was talking with one of her friends and didn't realize Angel walking toward her.

"Yes, Dallas?" She asked, batting her eyelashes.

"You should probably run now," I said slowly. Angel was only a few feet away.

"And get all sweaty? No thanks. It would mess up my hair," She said, flipping her hair over her shoulder and going back to her conversation.

"You have bigger things to worry about right now," I said, my voice shaking.

"Dallas, I already told you-" she said, stopping mid-sentence when she saw Angel.

"COACH GRAYSON!!!!!" She screamed at the top of her lungs.

Coach Grayson came out just as Angel took a swing at Kim. I'm pretty sure the cracking sound I heard was Kim's jaw breaking. Coach Grayson grabbed Angel by her jacket as Angel went for Kim again. Angel's jacket slipped off of her arms and I watched in horror as she screamed in pain. Her arms were quickly turning red and blistering.

"Uh-oh," I heard Coach Grayson whisper.

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN UH-OH?!? GET HER INSIDE!!!!!" I shouted at her.

She opened the door quickly and Angel ran inside, tears streaking down her ace.

"The bitch deserved it," I heard one girl who was consoling Kim say.

"YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HELL SHE'S BEEN THROUGH!!!!!!" I yelled at her. I picked up Angel's stuff before running in after Angel.
