4. Chapter 4

"Rylee, you have to run, you have to go and find a base," She said handing me a bat and tried to push me out the door.

"I'm not gonna leave you!" I exclaimed.

"Rylee, you have too! If I get infected, I don't want you to be the one to kill me." She said.

I planted my feet on the ground and refused to move. "Aunt MaryAnn. I just lost mom and dad, I lost Charlie, I lost Clara, I am not gonna lose you too!"

She looked back at me with tears streaming down her face. "I love you Rylee, and I'm so very sorry," She said, hugged me and pushed me out of the door.

That's when I saw it. It looked at me with it's cold, dead eyes.

"No, no, no," I mumbled.

It screeched and lunged for me.

I swung my baseball bat as if I hit a home run, and it's head flew right off its body. I watched as it crumpled to the floor.

I turned and saw my best friend Laura.

She didn't know that one was behind her.

"Laura!" I screeched.

But it was too late.

"No!" I woke up screaming.

My heart and my head pounded. Sweat beaded on my forehead.

The first time I sleep in forever and I have a nightmare.

But I knew it was more than just a bad dream.

Knowing that I wouldn't get to sleep again, I walked out of the girls' room and into the kitchen.

I turned on the light, walked over to the cabinet and pulled out a canteen.

I set the canteen on the counter and kinda stared into space for a few minutes. Thinking about my dream.

"Hey Rylee," Someone put their hand on my shoulder.

I grabbed his wrist and flipped him over my shoulder.

I have a huge Deja vu moment right now.

Five minutes later, I was sitting crisscross on the counter, and Logan was leaning next to me, holding an ice pack to his head.

"So you can't sleep?" He asked, and gave me a funny look.

"Nope," I said and smiled at him.

"You have a nice smile," He said, then his cheeks reddened. "I'm sorry, you hit my head pretty hard,"

"I said I was sorry," I laughed.

"I know," He smiled. "So how come you're awake?"

My eyes traveled down to the floor. "Nightmare, err.. not really a nightmare, it was a bad memory,"

"The first time you saw one of them?" He asked gently.

"Kind of," I mumbled. "My parents, my brother and sister, and my best friend,"

He set down his ice pack. "I'm sorry," He said and leaned in and hugged me.

At first I stiffened, but then I hugged him back, and I found out that... I liked his hugs.
