Is the key to happiness falling in love? To fall in love with someone that means the world to you, cares about you, and protects you. What if it was... unexpected...?

9. The Date

Harry took me out to a restaurant that was half an hour away from the college. We went walking and our fingers were entwined the whole walk there. We were talking about our childhood and embarrassing times. It was fun and funny at the same time.

We went inside and both ordered salads, "Enjoying your salad?" He asked.

I nodded with a smile, "Yes, are you?"

He nodded with a smile on his lips, "So, why were you ignoring me that last couple of days?"

I looked at his dazzling green eyes and replied, "I was shy to talk to you after you kissed me."

He looked surprised by my answer, "Shy? We were together the whole time during the party."

"Yeah, but just as friends, not like a couple," I replied shyly.

He took my hand into his, "Lina, I kissed you because I like you more than a friend. I know you don't feel the same way about me, but doesn't mean you have to be shy."

"Harry, your sweet and nice, but like I said, I'm just not ready for that kind of relationship," I replied.

He looked a little shy now, "Did something happen to you in your past that makes you so uncomfortable around me?"

I gulped hard and looked into his eyes, but I stayed quite.

He frowned a little, "Tell me what happened."

I sighed, but I told him anyways, "A year ago, I fell in love with this guy. His name was Ethan and we dated for about 8 months. He was really protective of me. He always ha my back and was really caring, but one day, he didn't care anymore. Every time I asked him if he wanted to go out on a walk with me, he said no. It was as if he didn't care about me anymore. I felt a little worried, but I dealt with it for over a month until I got tired of him. He used me a lot and never cared about me like he used to when we first started dating. One day, he picked me up and we went over to his house. We were watching movies until his phone rang. He answered it, but he went somewhere private so I couldn't hear. About an hour later, he came back and started shouting at me and hitting me really hard. I ran away from him as soon as possible and started to cry for several days. I didn't get over him until I met you... Harry, I like you to..."

He smiled at me, but it was a worried smile, "Lina, I would never try to hurt you in any kind of way. I promise."

I smiled back and we continued to eat our salads. About 20 minutes later, we were walking back to my dorm. We entwined our fingers and kept talking about our past. We shared a lot of stories about ourselves than I thought we would. Harry really cared about me and I really appreciated that.

We got to the front of my dorm room, "Lina, hopefully, we can do this again sometime?

I smiled at him, "Of course. Thank you so much for the perfect night."

He smiled back at me. I leaned to hug him and we stood there hugging each other for about a minute until we let go.

I turned around so I could go inside, but Harry's arm held mine before I got the chance to open the door. A second later, I felt Harry's lips press onto mine. We were kissing for about 2 minutes when I back out slowly, "Harry..."

"I really meant it this time," He said quietly.

I shyly smiled and opened the door to my dorm and closed it behind me.

I laid on my bed with a smile still playing on my lips. I couldn't help it, Harry was perfect...
