My Rock

Louis Tomlinson is a senior in college. He’s popular, outgoing, and always willing to help anyone in need. Harry Styles is an introverted sophomore who receives constant harassment and bullying because of who he is. He doesn’t fit in, he’s shy, has no friends, and no real family to confide in; the fact that he’s gay doesn’t help matters. He’s just a blip on everyone’s radar, floating by, but a punching bag to those who loved reminding him how much of a loser he really was. When Harry was hospitalized months before for a suicide attempt, Louis was assigned to him through the Big Brother program. Will Louis be able to help Harry? Will Harry be able to let Louis in?

A/N: This is my fist fic. I give it a trigger warning because it deals with self harm and suicide attempts and thoughts… there is no actual death

20. The surprise guest

“Babe stop” Harry said as he smacked Louis’s hand away from the deserts that he was preparing. It was Christmas Eve. Harry had been slaving in the kitchen all morning getting ready for the dinner that he had been planning. He was more than excited, because this was the first time he was able to host his own Christmas dinner. “You will have to wait like everyone else.”

“Fine” Louis huffed before kissing Harry on the cheek. Harry responded with a smile before returning to the pie he was preparing. “When are the guests arriving?” Louis asked.

“Around one or so. I want to have things done early so they can go be with their families.”

                “Ah gotcha.”

Harry quickly checked the time. “Babe, its 12:30 why don’t you set the table?”

Louis rolled his eyes “Anything for my Betty Crocker”

“Oh hush or you won’t get your d- sert tonight” Harry chuckled.

“Oh that’s not fair! You can’t withhold sex!” Harry just smiled and winked at Louis in response. “You wouldn’t do that would you?”

“Hmm, don’t set the table and see.”

“Babe will you get that” Harry called from the bathroom as he was finishing getting ready. The first of their dinner guest had arrived. After Harry finished fixing his tie and tucking in his green dress shirt into his freshly ironed black trousers he made his way into the living room to see who had arrived.

“Mrs. Teasdale, I am so glad you are here. Thank you. And this must be your gorgeous daughter. Lux is it?”

She nodded. “Lux, go say hey to Harry.” Lux shook her head and ran to hide behind Mrs. Teasdale. “She normally isn’t shy, sorry. I don’t know what her deal is today.”

“It’s okay, I have something for her, and it’s one of her presents under the tree. Do you mind if I go ahead and give it to her?”

“No, not at all. Lux go follow Harry, he has a present for you.”

Harry held out his hand and waited for Lux to grab a hold and led her to the pile of presents under the tree. “Santa told me you wanted something so I told him I would take care of it” He grabbed one of the many pink boxes with a blue ribbon and handed it to her. Harry sat down on the edge of the fireplace as he watched her face light up as she opened doll. A big smile came across her face before she ran up to Harry, jumped in his arms, giving him a hug and a kiss on a cheek.

“Tank you” Lux muttered before returning to her doll.

Guest after guest had arrived, everyone from Gemma, to Louis’s grandfather. Harry couldn’t have been happier. Everything was going as planned. Louis was chatting happily with his grandfather as he passed the potatoes to Harry. Gemma was feeding Lux as she talked to Mrs. Teasdale about hair and make-up.  All Harry could do was sit back and smile. He hadn’t had a Christmas like this since he was a ten. Harry sat back and remembered that Christmas. He remembered the laughter and the happiness. His Christmas dinner was so close to that memory. The only thing missing was his mum, and that is when the sadness took over.

“I’m gonna go to the kitchen to get some more drinks. Does anyone want anything else?” Harry asked over the conversations. No one responded, so Harry excused himself and went into the kitchen. He sat up on the kitchen counter, leaning backwards with his head against the cupboard. Minutes later, Louis joined him.

                “Yeah?” Harry responded.

                “What’s wrong?”

                “You’re lying. I know you”

                “I’m fine, I promise.”

Louis didn’t buy it. He stepped forward, placing himself between Harry’s legs and wrapping his arms around his neck. “Tell me the truth.”

Harry sighed. “I just wish my mum was here. Christmas isn’t the same without her. Christmas is about family and friends and getting together, but without her it just doesn’t feel right. Ya know? I mean I know that she doesn’t approve of us or our lifestyle, but I wish she could put that aside and just be my mum for once. The mum I once knew, the mum who loved me no matter what, the one who read the Night Before Christmas to me every Christmas Eve, the one who made Christmas complete, even with Dad gone.”

“Babe, I know what you mean. But you can’t let that get you down. You have family and friends here who care about you and will always be here for you.”

Harry nodded and kissed Louis’s forehead. “I love you.”

“Sorry, I don’t want to interrupt” Gemma said as she stood in the archway of the kitchen. “But another guest has arrived.” Gemma moved to the side to reveal Anne standing there.

“Merry Christmas pumpkin” Anne said with a smile from the doorway.

“I think I will leave you two alone” Louis said before kissing Harry and leaving the kitchen with Gemma.

“Merry Christmas” Harry said to Anne as he jumped off the counter and hugged his mum. She smiled and hugged him back.

                “I’m sorry”

                “For what?”

“For not being a good mum.”

                “Don’t worry about it”

“No, I need to please.” Harry nodded and stepped back to listen. “I haven’t been a good mum. A mum is supposed to love her children no matter what, and I love you Harry, I really do. I know I haven’t shown it over the past couple of years, but I truly love you. I blamed you for my divorce, but I know now that his problems far exceeded you. And any guy who can’t accept you then he isn’t worth being with to begin with. I am sorry Harry. Please forgive me. Please.”

Harry had no words; he just hugged her, kissed her on the cheek and smiled. “Let's go get you some food.” He grabbed her hand and led her to the dining area. “Everyone, this is mum, Anne. She is gonna join us for the rest of the evening.”

Louis looked up at Harry and flashed him a concerned yet worried look. Harry just smile and nodded before pulling out a chair for his mum and returning to the dinner table.
