Dark Secrets

My name's Hope and I'm dead... Well, I'm supposed to be. I woke up buried and in a cemetery and to make matters worse it looks like I have a personal stalker as well who may be my only chance at answers. Let's just hope he doesn't kill me while we're at it.

6. Chapter 6

I pushed open the iron gate and walked in cautiously, scanning the large field for any signs of people, but all I saw was rustling in the trees on the far side. From animals, I assumed.

My footsteps crunched on the dewy grass as I made my way over to where my grave lay. When I reached it, I kneeled down and opened the lid because no one had bothered to re bury it after I'd climbed out. I reached in and my hand landed on a wad of colourful cash. I pulled it out and counted about two hundred dollars.

How much did they want to spare for me? Was I that important to my family that they set aside two hundred dollars for me? It made me feel really bad about having to leave them, and Al had said that I couldn't rejoin them, ever. How could I just leave them like that? What even happened to me? Was it the bite that had killed me? Or was that what happened after? Did I get the bite after or before? Had it ended on a bad note? What if I'd told them that I hate them? What if that's the last thing they ever heard ever heard me say? Oh no, what if that was the last thing the heard me say?

I stood and backed away from the coffin, suddenly terrified. I turned and was about to flee when something impaled itself in my shoulder. I yanked it out only to experience searing pain. It was a wooden stake, I looked across the field and my eyes landed on a boy who was hiding half in the shadows, brown hair hanging messy out of his black hoodie, ocean blue eyes only in view because they were piercing out of the darkness. I could tell he was muscular, but not to much, maybe average, and tall. That was all I could see from across the field, not including the fact he was hiding in the shadows.

I backed up and almost fell into the hole, but skirted around it and ran as another stake landed behind me. I kept running and I knew he was following, it was how this kind of thing always worked right? Someone attempts to kill someone and when the prey starts to run the predator chases them. Then the predator corners the prey and kills them.

But I wasn't dying for real today, no. I was not dying today.
