6. The Summer Ball

I looked into the mirror and smiled. I wore a long sea blue ball gown and my hair was in soft ringlets, cascading to my mid back. There was still an hour until the ball was ready to start; so I didn't rush myself. My date was Felix King, apparently this had been arranged days in advanced yet still I only just knew about it.

"Oh fancy." Said Sherlock, walking into my room messing with his cuff links." How do people do this?". I walked over to him, my dress swishing behind me, and helped him with his dilemma. “ And we have another tutor coming tomorrow, joy”

" What is this stupid ball about anyway?" I moaned, pinning the front bits of hair off my face. I wasn't the dresses and princess act kind of girl. Most girls my age would be fantasizing of being on the one direction tour as a singer, or something else pointless. But no I was helping my older brother and his best friend solve crimes.

" Its a annual thing. The whole work place and all of Mycroft's ' friends' and others. Its just an important event. " He said, not really taking an interest. I heard the car pull up outside the door. I  drifted down the long staircase and waiting at the bottom was Felix. His eyes shimmered like amethysts in the moon light and his hair seemed an almost dark green than black. He held out his hand. I took it. I felt a sense of safety, next to him. We took the first car, John and Sherlock in the next and Mycroft and his colleagues in the last.

The Tillington Manor was a magical, yet simple, venue and as the cool air of the wind tore through my hair, we walked quickly into the ballroom. There was an array of voices and faces, mostly classy, elegant and well-healed. The hall was decorated in fine lace and blue lanterns were scattered generously around the room.

I went over to the fruit punch fountain, and poured a glass of a pink liquid for myself and Felix. He took the drink then put it down. He looked over at the dance floor and back towards me. I soon realized this wasn't a standard High school prom, it was an adult Fairy-tale ball, where the princess was expected to dance.

I put my drink on the table next to his and walked out onto the almost empty floor. A slow song began to softly sing from the orchestra. I put my hand upon his shoulder gently, and we started to dance. I looked into his eyes smiling, it was hard not to. The music and the loud chattering was soon drowned out as we stared into each others eyes. I felt like I could trust him with my life, with everything.

" You look beautiful tonight" He whispered.  I rested my head on his shoulder, whilst smiling, as we kept on dancing. I saw many couples had joined us on the dance floor and now it was hard not to get in someone’s way. But that didn't matter. A warm feeling began to build inside of my heart and my cheeks blushed a light shade of crimson. After a week of knowing him, I had never thought I would have connected to him in this way. We danced a little more until I was rudely pulled to the side by John.

" Mia we need to go now." He stated bluntly. I raised my eyebrows at his concerned face but soon accepted that something was wrong and returned to Felix to say goodbye. After a long time of trying to say goodbye we were in a cab going home. Why was everyone in a rush?
