3. Chapter 3

Chapter 3:

"Alright, I think I know most of the people in here, except... Vanessa! Are you new here?" asked my home room teacher.

"Um... I go by Nessie. And yes, I just moved here from Washington."

"Well, Nessie, do you have any siblings who also go here?"

"Yes, I have a brother and a sister, and we're triplets," I lied.

"Interesting! Well I'm sure you'll make plenty of friends here. And if anyone gives you trouble, you come straight to me, ok?"

I heard several girls near me giggle. I felt the blood rush to my cheeks. I wished I was a full vampire so that I couldn't blush.

"Um, ok," I said, hiding behind my hair so the girls couldn't stare at me.

"I wonder how much product she put in her hair to get those curls," whispered one of them.

"Man, she's a hottie if I ever saw one," whispered a boy across the room.

My blush darkened. My super-human hearing sometimes picked up things not meant for my ears.

I was so relieved when the bell finally rang that I got up a little too gracefully and left a little too quickly. Hopefully no one noticed.

I had similar experiences with the rest of my classes. I could have mastered the subject material at age two.

I met up with my parents at lunch, and they immediately bombarded me with questions.

"Yes, I found all my classes. Yes, they all stared. No, I didn't meet any new friends. Yes, the classes are easy. Can we please pretend to buy food now?"

We went through the charade and then picked a table that was hidden in a corner and certainly out of human earshot.

They made me eat, because as dad put it, "Soon you will make friends to eat lunch with, so you might as well get used to it." I was stubborn until he promised to take me hunting after school.

I was sad to leave them when the bell rang. I touched mom's cheek, thinking, "Do I have to?"

She pulled me into a hug and brushed my hair back with her hand. "Shh, little Renesmee. I promise things will get better. And besides, the only classes you have left are study hall and dance. That should be fun!"

I looked up and smiled, kissed dad on the cheek, and then went to study hall. Of course, I did not need to study, and again I thought of my Jacob. I missed him. Being away from him made me so anxious!

Suddenly I felt homesick and asked to go to the restroom. Once there, I pulled out the cellphone I rarely used and called the first number in my speed dial.

"Nessie! How are ya, Ness?"

"I'm ok. School is boring and everyone keeps staring at me."

"Aw, don't worry sweetheart, that's just because you're..."

"I know, I know. I'm special. If I had a dime for every time you've told me that..."

I was cut off by his laughter. I hadn't realized how much I missed that sound. So I started laughing along with him. Then suddenly he cut off and I heard Sam's voice yell "Jacob! Let's go!"

I sighed.

"Sorry, Nessie, that's my cue. Call me after school!" And he was gone.
