9. But... why?

Jamie's POV

Me and Harry walking into the hospital together, probably wasn't the best thing ever. People stared and phones were out as we made it through the doors. I really didn't know what was there to see. Harry and I kept our distance, not daring a single touch, just a bless you when Harry sneezed. I was glad, but at the same time devastated.

I shouldn't be thinking about my stupid, chaotic love life right now, anyway. I should be thinking about finding Desiree. The only problem is, I didn't know what to think. I didn't have anything to go off of, and every theory I could come up with didn't fit right.

We made it to the enclosed doctor's office on time, but last. Everyone who was there last night was here today, including a few extras; Perrie, and who I could only guess was Liam's new girlfriend, Sophia. I remember when my younger sister, Kat, found out about her, I had to hear about it for weeks. Everyone slowly stared at us, their eyes holding a secret that I couldn't decipher. Niall and Louis broke out in a smile and raised their eyebrows up to their hairline.

Before I could ask what the hell was going on, a guy in a uniform walked in. He took in everybody crammed into the room, and politely said nothing of it. "We have the tapes set up to watch, but not everyone can come. So, pick two of you."

"Niall, obviously." Harry spoke. His eyes flittered to mine, as he gave me a warm smile. His nose was red, and his skin was getting paler by the minute. I had a second to think that he could have a cold before he said: "And Desiree's sister."

I suddenly became nauseous, as I stood. You can do this. You need to do this. I forced myself to walk forward and take Niall's arm, who looked just as scared. We walked away from the group and down the barren hallway, following the guard into another private office. I wondered why a hospital would have so many secretive rooms, but didn't have  chance to ask. We were ushered into two chairs in front of a very big man. His name tag read: Dawn. You know the inappropriate moments when you shouldn't laugh at all, that was one of them. I pressed my lips together tightly to keep the giggles from escaping. Officer Dawn gave us a slight nod, his wig sliding a bit as he did so.

"You are here to discuss the case of Desiree Rose Johnson." Dawn started, reminding us why we're here. "Over here we have Detective Coy, from the CSI," He gestured to a woman in her late 20s, who I didn't even notice until now. She had her hair cut in a really cute short way that only very few can pull off, and she wore a black blazer and work pants. She expression was strictly business as Dawn kept going on introducing. "...Niall, and you are?"

"The only family she has left." I said bluntly. It was such a sad position we were all in. I'm the only person from her family left, and Niall was stuck here, because of Baby Adalyn.

"Right, ok." He prompted his elbows up on the desk, leaned in and gave us an expression that clearly stated, this-isn't-going-to-be-good-but-I'll-pretend-it-is. "My fellow officers and I watched the tape, and we discovered something quite shocking. It seems that Miss Johnson wasn't alone. And-"

"What do you mean, wasn't alone?" I snapped. Who in the hell could she have been with?

"She," Dawn stared at me, taken aback by my outburst. "had another young woman with her, who seemed to be guiding her. We've sent her face over to be traced, and as soon as we find out who she is we will have a lead on to where Ms. Johnson is." He paused, waiting for another outburst from me. He didn't get one, I was too wound up trying to interpret that piece of information to even know what to ask. "The other thing we've noticed is the fact that she seemed to be asleep when she was wheeled out of the hospital."

"So, she was kidnapped, again?" I stressed the last word. By who? Why? What the hell. I thought as I gaped at him. I looked at Niall, who was on the same level of WTF as I was.

"That's one of the possibilities." Dawn said slowly.

"You mean the only possibility." I wanted to believe that there was a different explanation, but come on, this was on tape. "Don't give me any of that shit, ok? Just flat out say to me, to us, what happened. Just rip the Band-Aid off and get it over with so we can make appropriate measures to find her."

"We can't just-"

"My daughter needs her mother." Niall pleaded. Dawn and Niall stared at each other steadily until Dawn finally looked away.

"She was kidnapped."
