One and then Two

An eight year old girl got wings. Now she's fifteen, flying at night for the thrill of it and convinced there's another like her doing the same. On her quest to find them, she must be careful not to reveal what she is.

14. Show me

I whacked him. I whacked Fynn just about as hard as I could, bunching up my hands at my side and clenching my jaw. I couldn't believe he would joke about something like this. Something so important.

"Don't kid around Fynn, I'm not joking. If you're lying I will honestly throw you out the window and see how much your 'wings' help you."

It was at that moment that he realised just how silly he was being and how afraid I was. The Fynn I knew came back, his face changing almost immediately. His expression was protective and he said to me in a clear voice, with not a sprinkle of laughter, "I'll show you."

I nodded and led him upstairs. Once we were in my room I locked the door and closed the blinds; couldn't have any neighbours seeing wings through the windows could we?

I saw him take a little breath and begin to take off his shirt. I felt more than a little embarrassed looking and so I averted my eyes, finding a piece of carpet that was extremely interesting.

He coughed to get my attention and I looked up. His stomach was toned and his muscles taut as he took a huge breath. He was about to show me.
