One and then Two

An eight year old girl got wings. Now she's fifteen, flying at night for the thrill of it and convinced there's another like her doing the same. On her quest to find them, she must be careful not to reveal what she is.

18. Plans

Fynn and I remained snuggled close on the couch, chatting about trivial things, until the sun began to go down and shadows were thrown across the room. I lay with my head on his arm and my hand over his stomach, listening to the sound of his heart.

"Do you want to do something tonight? I don't have any homework so I'm free," he said softly, pushing a strand of my hair from my forehead.

"What did you have in mind?"

He was silent for a moment while he moved to cup my cheek and lean over me so that his dusty blond hair flopped into his eyes. He brushed his lips over mine gently and sent a shudder through me.

"How about we go flying?" he whispered into my ear.

I looked into his eyes and nodded eagerly. If the dream I had had was any indication of the joys of flying with another, I was definitely up for it.

"I'll meet you at the bat cave at 10pm tonight," I whispered back as I slid out from under him. He looked at me, almost longingly, and so I gave him a quick kiss before heading back home.
