One and then Two

An eight year old girl got wings. Now she's fifteen, flying at night for the thrill of it and convinced there's another like her doing the same. On her quest to find them, she must be careful not to reveal what she is.

12. Drop By

Knock. Knock, knock. I slid out of bed and shuffled out of my room to the front door. My sinuses were stuffy and just moving sent vibrations into my skull that moved around mucus and built up the pressure. It was not pretty. I peeped through the hole in my door and was met by a smiling face I knew more than well.

"What are you doing here?" I asked Fynn as I was feeling more than a little embarrassed at how I looked.

"You weren't at school so I thought I'd drop by to make sure you were okay. We were going to have our date tonight," he replied. It clicked in my mind that I had, in fact, said I was going to the movies with him tonight. Come on, really? Of all the days to get sick.

"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry I completely forgot. Come on in."

He wiped his feet on the mat, what a gentleman, and stepped into my house. I led him over to the kitchen, very aware I was just in a tank top and pajama shorts.

"So can I get you anything? Water? Juice?" I asked as he looked around my house. We sat at my kitchen table as I sipped my water. He smiled at me and I blushed a little, not really sure why.

"How's your day been so far? I hope I'm not intruding when you really just want to hide in a corner or go to bed. If so, I can go right now."

I giggled a little before answering, "Really dull. Please don't leave, this is the highlight of my day!"

I got a little smile for that and so asked, "How long are you planning to stay?"

He shook his head and said, "Not really sure, as long as you want me to."
