Dear Agony

I can't even anymore. Seeing them in the hallways, in our classes, at lunch, on Facebook and Instagram, and sometimes through my window when I'm lying around the house. It hurts like hell. I'm friends with them both but lately, it hurts more than usual. The moment I think I'm getting over them, I think of something or I see something, or some idiot says something, and it comes back full force.

(The title comes from the song Dear Agony by Breaking Benjamin.)

4. Dance for Your Life

At 10:50, we're ready and on our way. I'm in a tight, black Flyleaf band t-shirt, black skinny jeans, and Addy is wearing a deep blue V-neck tank top with a leather vest over it, which she pairs with dark blue skinny jeans.. We both opted for Converse since we're gonna be standing for hours. I grab my leather jacket and throw her her car keys. We walk to her black and red 1969 Camaro Z28 and get in. She starts the car and then we're off.

Its 11:13 when we pull into the courtyard and get out. There's a huge crowd surrounding a dance pit and there are two girls in the pit, both stretching and glaring at each other furiously every few minutes or so.

After about three minutes of them staring each other down, a guy in a really fitted tux steps out with a megaphone. "In this corner!" He gestures to the blonde on the right side of the pit wearing red baller shorts, a bright yellow t-shirt, and hot pink, high top Converse, "We have our challenger! Brooke "Break It Down" Matthews." Five to ten people clap and the rest of us are dead silent. "And in this corner!" He gestures to a girl wearing dark blue short shorts, a tight, blue tank top and low top dark blue Converse, "Our champ, the best in the city, you know her, you love her, KickAss KittyKat!!" The crowd, with the exception of me and Addy and a few others, goes wild. Everybody's clapping like mad and whooping as if their lives depended on it. Up until now, I couldn't see the girl's face but now the spotlight was shining on her and I could see that she was waving and smiling at the crowd that was chanting her name, "KittyKat! KittyKat! KittyKat!" When I saw her face, my mouth dropped and I'm sure Addy's did too. It was Kaci. She was the champ. The best in the city. I honestly didn't think I could be anymore in love with her but damn! She looked so perfect in her dance outfit. She looked at me and smiled so wide I almost passed out, but I managed to smile back and wave. She smirked and grabbed the megaphone from the announcer, "Hey everybody! How're you guys doin' tonight?" The crowd started screaming again and she waited till the crowd calmed down before continuing, "I'd just like to send a shout-out to one of my best friends, Alex!" She pointed at me and all heads turned towards me. I turned bright red and hid behind Addy as she shot everyone of them a glare that I'm sure was colder than any arctic breeze. Kaci handed the dude back his megaphone and smirked at my obvious blush. The announcer did his job and said, "Crowd, are you ready??" The whole crowd, including Addy and I, went wild. "Dancers, are you ready??" Brooke nodded but Kaci screamed, "Hell yeah!"

----------------------------------- *Four hour time jump* -------------------------------

I checked the time on my phone and was glad my parents were always away on business as it was almost three in the morning. Kaci was just finishing up and now all that was left was the vote. The announcer said, "Scream for whoever you want to win!" He held up Brooke's hand and about half the crowd screamed. She smiled wearily and stepped back. He held up Kaci's hand and the entire crowd went buckwild, shouting and cheering and clapping. The announcer smiled and nodded, "The fans have spoken! Ladies and gents may I present to you, your winner by a landslide, and the still undefeated champ, KickAss KittyKat!" The crowd started chanting Kaci's name again but Addy and I were already pushing back through the crowd to her car.

We head outside where we buy sodas and share a pickle from one of the dozens of food and drink carts set up around the parking lot. Once we finish eating, I walk and throw our trash away and as on my way back to Addy, a hand shoots out seemingly from nowhere and grabs my wrist. I swing around, ready to defend myself if necessary but relax when I see that it's just Kaci. I give her look a once over and see that she's wearing a robe that matches her outfit and that I can faintly see the sweat shining on her forehead and all on her arms. She looks so beautiful, but what else is new? I discreetly take a calming breath and say, "Congrats, Kace. I didn't know you could dance like that." As I try to walk away, she grabs my wrist again and holds me there. She seems to be studying me before she says, "Thanks, that means a lot coming from you, Aly." I smile slightly, even though I can feel my wrist tingling because she's still holding it in her hand. She lets my wrist go and I speed walk over to Addy as she lays on the hood of her car. She pulls me a bit closer, kisses my forehead and whispers good things in my ear to help me get my bearings. She opens my door for me and gets in the driver's seat before taking off to my house. We shower, change clothes and watch movies until around 4:45am. We climb our way in my bed and settle into our usual sleepover sleeping position which, as usual, features yours truly as the little spoon. "Go to sleep, Al. It'll be better in the morning." I fall asleep and dream of brown eyes and blue tank tops.

All the while her words whispered in the back of my mind; "Thanks, that means a lot coming from you, Aly."
