17 year old Arianna thought she was a normal girl until she wakes up with a nasty burn on her arm- and she watches it heal before her eyes. Then she meets the mysterious Kai and is thrust into a world she never could have dreamed existed.

5. Father

It turns out, that we got started straight away because Kai, who was now my teacher, wants me to know how to protect myself from whatever danger I'm facing. Every time I asked Kai who it was looking for me, he dodged the question. There was something he was not telling me and I wanted to find out. In the first few days, Kai taught me how to read minds and use strength and speed, which I found relatively easy. But then we moved on to gradually harder stuff like manipulation, time travel and teleportation. Kai and I were travelling around the world practicing and I was enjoying it. The only problem was that my family (who were apparently my adoptive family) filed a missing person’s report which Kai had made me deal with as he said it was a good opportunity to practice. My family now think I'm visiting my sick aunt Beatrice in Chicago... Currently, Kai and I were in Madrid.

Before finding out what I was, I had never been more than a few hundred miles away from home and now I was halfway across the world, not knowing where my home was anymore. Kai was currently telling me how to teleport. I could teleport a few hundred metres or even a mile away but never more. He was trying to get me to transport me and him to Rome. 'Right, Arianna, focus, breathe and clear your mind and just think about where you want to go.' We landed about five hundred metres up the beach we were on. 'Don't lose hope, we'll try again in a minute ok?' Kai and I had a quick bite to eat, making light conversation as we ate but then I thought I would ask him again about the danger. 'Kai, who is it that is looking for me and why are they such a danger?' Kai sighed. He looked up and met her eye and said, 'you know your real mother was a wonderful person who died protecting you from the danger that you face. She knew that you were special and gave herself up for you.' Kai seemed to have know her mother, I didn't even know what age he was. 'What about my father, what happened  him?' Kai looked nervously around him and then stood up and said, “I need to go to the bathroom, wait here” he was obviously looking for a way to avoid answering my question. “Kai, you will have to give me an answer sometime!”

I wanted to know even more now that he was so keen to keep me from the truth. Kai looked over at me, walked towards me then flung his arms around my waist and kissed me. Kai’s lips tasted of salt and sand. They tasted like him. It felt like they were standing there forever, just kissing without a care in the world. This was one of the best moments I had had in a while. Then with a sudden jerk, Kai stopped and walked away, apologising as he went. I watched as he retreated across the beach to the bathroom and waited, deep in thought, for him to come back. After what seemed like an eternity, Kai and I walked down to the beach and began practising again. With his hand entwined in hers. “Arianna, you can do this, clear your mind and just think of Rome,” he leant down and kissed me lightly on the forehead and the next thing i knew I was tumbling through space.

No matter how many times you teleport, you still have knots in your stomach when you’re done. After the ten second journey I stood up and realised we weren’t in Rome. We were in a concrete room with no door and a small window near the roof for air to get in. “Kai, what’s happening?!” I was panicking now, I had no idea what was going on. “I don’t know but stay with me.” Kai was obviously scared and worried too. He didn’t know why we were here either. Just then a figure had appeared in the darkest corner of the room and a tall, slim man who looked strangely familiar walked towards us. He had a grin on his face that made him resemble the Cheshire Cat. “Arianna, Kai so nice to see you.” I could feel Kai’s hand trembling in mine, he must know this man. Kai was lost for words. I waited then spoke, “Who are you?” The man’s smile widened and he looked me square in the eye and said in a thick, gravely accent, “Arianna, darling, do you not remember me? I’m your father!”
