The Hunger Games Larry Stylinson

In The ruins of a place once known as North American lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlaying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Sixteen-year-old Harry Styles, who lives alone with his mother and younger sister Gemma, regards it as a death sentence when he steps forward to take his sister's place in the Games. But Harry has been close to dead before — and survival, for him, is second nature. Without really meaning to, he becomes a contender, but if he is to win, he will have to start making choices that will weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

6. Part 6

The Training Center has a tower designed exclusively for the tributes and their teams. This will be our home until the actual Games begin. Each district has an entire floor.

You simply step onto an elevator and press the number of your district. Easy enough to remember.

Apparently Katy Perry's duties did not conclude at the station. She and Zayn will be overseeing us right into the arena.

My quarters are larger than our entire house back home. They are plush, like the train car, but also have so many automatic gadgets that I'm sure I won't have time to press all the buttons. I walk around the room until Katy calls me to dinner.

Louis, Niall, and Portia are standing on a balcony that overlooks the Capitol when we enter the dining room. Well sit down to eat and Zayn shows up just as the food is being served.

I try to focus on the talk, which has turned to our interview costumes, when a girl sets a gorgeous-looking cake on the table. Suddenly, I recognize her. I can't place a name or time to the girl's face, but I know her. The dark red hair and striking features. She shakes her head in denial quickly and hurries away from the table.

“Don't be ridiculous, Harry. How could you possibly know an Avox?” snaps Katy Perry. “The very thought. You're forbidden to speak to any of them, unless you're giving an order!”

Zayn decides to change the subject. “So, tomorrow morning is the first training session. Meet me for breakfast and I'll tell you exactly how I ant you to play it. And don't be late,” he says. “Now go get some sleep.”

Louis and I walk together down the corridor to our rooms. He suddenly stops and looks at me. “Have you been up on the roof yet?” I shake me head. “Niall showed me, you can practically see the whole city. Come on.” He grabs my hand and pulls me along behind him.

As we step out into the cool, windy evening air, I catch my breath at the view. The Capitol twinkles like a vast field of fireflies.

Louis and I walk to a railing at the edge of the roof. I look straight down the the side of the building to the street, which is buzzing with people. You can hear their cars and an occasional shout.

Louis takes my hand in his again. “Come see the garden Haz.”

On the other side of the roof, they've built a garden with flower beds and potted trees. From the branches hang hundreds of wild chimes, tinkling in the evening breeze.

My thoughts drift back to the girl and I wonder if she'll enjoy watching me die in the arena. I hope not.
