Hey so this is my first ever fanfic on here, please comment what you think and whatever you do on here...i don't know haha! I hope you enjoy it though, please keep reading too x

I sat on the living room window sill of my family house, silently watching the rain drops fall down the cold glass window until they hit the window sill.

I remember sitting here for hours as a child racing the rain drops on a day similar to this except I never had a worry or a problem back then. Today would be a nerve racking day for me and also my family, just like it had been exactly a year ago, the day that changed my whole life completely.

“Sweetie are you ready to go?” I heard my mother’s voice as she stood by the door, I could see that she was just as nervous as I was.

“Yeah, I guess.” I mumble as I unwrap the blanket from around my body and follow her out of the house.

I could see that my dad was already in the car with my older brother Dylan and younger sister Lillie.

As we drove down the roads everyone was silent, my dad was concentrating on the road although I know his thoughts were somewhere else. Mum was flipping through a magazine, obviously trying to take her mind off the events that would soon take place. Dylan was shaking his leg repeatedly, it was something he did when nervous and it irritated me but I ignored it because right now was not a suitable time to argue with him. Lillie was playing with her dolls happily, not aware of what was happening around her at the moment. And me? Well I was chewing on my fingernails, also a horrible habit of mine whilst nervous but my thoughts were also somewhere else…they were on Harry Styles, the boy who was my childhood best friend, we had grown up together just like our older siblings had, except Harry was touring the world with his boy band. Now don’t get me wrong, I was extremely proud of him but right now I needed him the most, I needed him to comfort me like he used to all those years back whilst I was having boy troubles or family problems. At the thought of him comforting me all those years ago a memory flooded into my mind.

“Harry.” I sobbed into the phone as I hid under my bed trying to ignore all of the loud voices downstairs.

“Emily, what’s going on?” Harry asked worriedly.

“They’re arguing again…” I manage to choke out.

“Shh, shh, Em it’s going to be okay. Open your window; I’ll be there in a few minutes okay?” Harry explains, I mumble an ‘okay’ into the phone before ending the call to open the window for him.

Harry always came around to my house when I was having a hard time, he would comfort me and reassure me everything would be okay soon, that I had to stay strong to get through the hard times.

I heard the window creak open and instantly knew it was Harry, I turned around and leaped into his arms as he hugged me tightly whispering reassuring thoughts into my ear as I continued to cry into his shoulder

~End of flashback~

Harry stayed with me that night, he sang me a song until I fell asleep and comforted me throughout the night in case I woke up from a nightmare which happened regularly when I was a child.

“Emily, we’re here.” My dad says as we park up in the car park. When we climb out of the car my brother squeezes my hand tightly and doesn’t let go as we entered the hospital.

“Emily Roberts.” I hear my mum tell the receptionist my name.

“Please take a seat in the waiting area, Doctor Carter will be with you soon.” She smiles as she gestures to the waiting area to our right.

We take a seat and wait nervously for the doctor to call us and not once has Dylan let go of my hand.

“Emily Roberts?” I look up as my name is called to see my doctor at the door; I look over at my parents, Lillie and Dylan before we stand up and follow the Doctor into his office.

“So Emily, how have you been?” My doctor asks as we all take a seat.

“Good, I’ve been a little tired lately but I guess I’m fine.” I reply trying to keep my nerves hidden.

“Good, that’s normal.” He turns to my parents as he speaks.

“How are the results looking?” My father asks trying to get straight to the point, he hated waiting.

“I’m afraid to say that it seems the chemotherapy hasn’t been working as well as we thought it would have.” He explains, examining the folders on his desk.

“What do you mean? I thought you said it would make an improvement.” My mum asks concerned.

“We really did think it would help greatly but it seems Emily’s illness is getting worse.” My doctor explains to us, my heart sunk to the bottom of my stomach at his words.

“What are you saying then?” I whisper, almost in tears.

“We are going to do the best we can to help you Emily but… we think it’s best if you prepare yourself for the worse, you and your family.” He gives us all a sympathetic look.

“I know you must all be in shock right now so I will leave you and your family for a while and we can organise another meeting whenever you’re ready to talk about alternative treatments.” Doctor Carter smiles slightly, I just nod my head whilst my parents say thank you and we left in silence.

When we arrived home I ran straight to my room and cried into my pillow wishing everything would go back to normal and my illness would go away and never come back but I knew that wasn’t possible at all.

A few hours had passed since we had received the horrible news and I heard a knock at my door.

“Go away.” I mumble the door opens regardless of what I had just said so I hid my head further into the pillow.

“Em, Are you okay?” I hear my brother’s voice.

“Obviously not!” I snap, “How am I meant to be okay when I just found out my days are limited? My illness is getting worse Dylan! How do you think I feel?!” I yell as I look at him in anger, he looks hurt by my words and steps back a little. I sigh flopping back down onto the bed, staring up at the ceiling.

“I’m sorry,” I mumble, “I’m just…scared.” I whisper.

“I know Em, we all are but we’re going to get through this together okay? We’ll be here every step of the way just like we have been for the past year! You’re a strong girl and I know you’re strong enough to get through this.” Dylan tells me, tears filling his eyes.

“B-But what if I don’t? It’s getting worse and worse day by day Dylan…” I cry.

“Emily if you believe you can get through this you will. Don’t believe you can’t because you can and you will.” He hugs me, rocking me from side to side as my tears fall down my face.

“Have you told him yet?” Dylan whispers after a few minutes of silence.

“No…I don’t know how to and he’ll just be mad at me and will just leave.” I sigh.

“What makes you think he’ll leave? Maybe he’ll be a little confused on why you didn’t tell him till now but when you explain it to him he’ll support you just like his family and us.” Dylan replies.

“He’s my best friend Dyl, he’s the one who should’ve found out first, it’s been a year and he still doesn’t know, of course he’ll get up and leave…besides, he won’t have time to support me, not with the tours.” I explain, wiping away my tears to look at my older brother.

“Emily you’re his best friend and have been since that first day of primary school where you both came home with paint all over yourselves!” He laughs and for a moment a smile appears on my lips remembering back to the time where me and Harry got told off for having a paint fight on the first ever day of primary school, “Of course he has time for you, he won’t leave you Em, I promise.” Dylan promises me.

“Thanks Dyl, I love you.” I say whilst hugging him tightly.

“I love you too.” He whispers back.

“I’ll let you sleep; besides I have a busy day planned for us tomorrow.” Dylan winks before kissing my forehead and leaving me to myself.

I quickly got a shower and changed into my pyjamas before hopping into bed where I fell asleep almost instantly from the busy day I had just experienced.
