That One Summer

This story is about a girl who fell in love. Her name is Avery Hinningsway. For one summer she goes to visit her dad in L.A.. All that she expected was a boring summer in his loft with netflix and nutella. She never expected to fall in love. With a celebrity. And for him to fall back in love. Avery makes a new best friend named Dani who is absolutely crazy.

1. Its empty

Avery sighs and looks around the crowded airport.  Her dad should have been here 20 minutes ago.  When Avery was 10 her parents divorced, and her dad moved to L.A..  Her mom lived in Kentucky.  Every 2 or 3 summers Avery would come here to stay with him.  She loved both of her parents but her dad could be "caught up".  Her Iphone buzzes in her Vera-Bradley suitcase.  She takes it out a reads the text message in a hurry.  "Sorry honey couldn't make it to the airport.  Sent you a ride."  Typical.  He acts like he's excited over the phone and as soon as she get here he ignores her.

"Excuse me, are you Avery?"  The voice had an Irish accent.  She turned and came eye to eye with a blonde her height.  She took a step back but didn't say anything.  "I'm with your dad's company.  Im Niall."  He extends a hand which she shakes quickly.  He seems familiar.

"Im Avery," she says biting the side of her mouth.  She didnt usually get shy around new people, but he sorta intimidated her.  He was tall and super tan.  He was wearing a plain white t-shirt, with blue shorts.

"Can I take your bags,?" he asks nicely.

"Sure, if you want," she says grabbing her purse off the ground.  She follows him out the glass doors and outside.  Her long brown hair immediately escapes its hairband.  She sighs and lets it hang there.  Niall was loading her stuff into a taxi cab.  He opens the door for her and she slides in.

'Where to?" asks the driver.  Niall gives him the address and takes out his own phone.

"Your dad really wanted to come," he says looking up at her.

"But he didnt," she says staring out the window.  "It's fine though."

"Yeah, he talks about you a lot at work," says Niall rubbing his knee.

"How old are you,?" Avery asks looking back at him.

"I'm 17, and your 16 right,?" he says pointing out.

"So, do you work for my dad or what,?" she says not able to tear her eyes from his gaze.  His blue eyes are entrancing.

"Im one of his clients,"Niall says staring back at her.

"Clients,?" she says in a daze.

"I'm in One Direction," he says raising an eyebrow.  Avery feels like an idiot.  One Direction of course.  The band every girl in school talks about, obsesses about, and daydreams about.  Avery wasn't like every girl.  She was social and everything, but she didnt really heat up in the celebrity section.

"Of course," Avery says waving off the fact that never in a million years would she have dreamed to meet him.

"We are here," says the taxi driver.  Before either of us exit the car he hands a slip of paper to Niall and a pen.  Niall signs it almost mechanically, and gets out.  I follow him to the back where my bags are.  He gets my stuff and walks up to the house.  I was very large.  It also wasn't anything like she remembered.

It was a mansion. "Did you dad mention the house," says Niall catching her perplexed looks at the house.

"Only last time I was down here, he lived in a wooden loft.  You could barely squeeze 3 rooms in there," she said.

"Follow me," said Niall.  He leads her down a stone path and into a polished wooden door.  "Welcome home."  His accent was absolutely adorable.  It made him sound serious.

"Do you live here," Avery found herself asking before she could help it.

"Uhh, yeah, me and the boys live up in the attic," he says gesturing with his free hand upstairs.  "Ill show you your room," he says.  The house was beautiful.  He led her up white carpeted stairs and down a long hallway. "We live in the 3rd floor."  He takes a sharp turn into an open door room.  Its large and has a huge window wall as her view of the beach.  He drops her bag on the ground and lays on the bed.  "Your room is so much better than ours," he says putting his hands behind his head.  She had desk, flat screen TV, and 2 dressers.  She smiled and looked over at him.  He was playing with the fringed pillows, but suddenly got up and crossed the room in a rush.  He opened a door to a minifridge and let his mouth hang open.  "Food,?!" he exclaims staring up at her.  "Im sorry, but she was probably meant to go in my room."  He pulls a box out and stares at its contents.

"Is there a problem," Avery says walking towards him.

"Its-- its empty," he whimpers.  She giggles and he smiles at her.

Maybe this summer won't be so bad after all.
