Different from the Rest

Kady used to have a normal life. She loved to shop, listen to music, and play field hockey, she was on the reserve list for the 2016 Olympics in Rio. She was even lucky enough to meet One Direction at one of their concerts and she kept in touch with them. Liam and Kady developed feelings for each other and started casually dating. That was until Kady discovered she had a life-threatening sickness. She was in the hospital for months, but overcame the sickness. But, the illness left her with a learning disability and now all her dreams are shattered and she has to rebuild her life. She must go from black to white but must learn there are shades of grey in the middle which are needed for healing.

17. The Melting Pot

I look at myself in the mirror one last time. I have on a goddess dress that is above the knee, Liam's heels on and a gold clutch in my hand. My hair is in a fishtail braid and I have on eyeshadow and eyeliner. The doorbell rings, it's Lou, he got a limo to bring us to and from the party. I grab the presents off my bed, but I can't hold them.
"Mom…come h-help me with the…gifts," I yell. I know that was really demanding, but there is no way I can carry all these gifts. Samara opens the door for Uncle Lou as Mom helps me with all the gifts. She takes half of them and I take the other half. She doesn't say anything to me. My suitcase, bag, and laptop are at the end of the bed ready to be taken to England in the morning. As I walk down the stairs with the gifts, I can hear Samara talking to Louis about Barbies or something. He is being a good sport about it.
"Hey, can I help you with those?" he asks once he sees me and Mom. We bring the presents to the back of the limo and I take my clutch off the top of the pile.
"Happy birthday," I say as he escorts me into the limo. I am the first one picked up besides Eleanor who is in the passenger seat. She's wearing a peachy pink floor length gown. Lou closes the door behind me and goes into the driver's seat.
"Oh no, your still driving? Someone might die," El jokes to Lou.
"Watch out," Lou replies. He throws a glove at me once we start driving, "How are you monkey face?"
"Good, y-you seem in a…happy mood today," I say. To be honest, Lou is always in a happy mood, I just didn't know how to respond to him. Next, we're at Perrie's house. She has two homes, one in England and one in Connecticut. She comes with a huge pile of gifts, too. She stumbles in her heels because of the load. Once Perrie gets in, she sits right across from me, "Hey my brown-haired goddess."
"Hey m-my lavender queen," I say. She has on a mint green mini dress.
"Have you ever been to this place before?" she asks sweetly in a British accent.
"Yeah…I gre up here a-and my dad used…to always take …my family here," I say staring at the ground. This place we are going to reminds me so much of my Dad. I don't know if I can stay without breaking down. Last time I went, Mom, Samara, and I had to leave without eating because it was too much for us all to handle.
"Oh, I'm so sorry," she says and her cheeks redden.
"It's f-fine. What…did you get for Z-Zayn?" I ask. She leans in close to me as if Zayn was sitting on the other side of the limo, "Manchester United tickets for the both of us. What did you get Liam?"
"The new Halo…game, d-dumb right? A-also a digital picture…frame and I-I put together some pics…of him," I say. Not really  creative gifts. There are some of him and the boys and some with me and him.
"LETGO!" Lou shouts as he starts the limo-again. Next, we go to the hotel. Lou texts all four boys that he's waiting outside. I feel awful that they have to bring piles of presents through the mob. The paps are taking pictures of El, Perrie and me through the windows, Lou is inside to help the boys. Us girls cover our faces with the bags. Perrie is luck because she has a big shoulder bag while Eleanor and I have tiny clutches. The boys come running to the limo with a bag carrier. The bag carrier's wheels keep getting stuck. All the presents are on that one piece of cheap brass. Lou is brave and puts all the gifts into the trunk, while Liam, Harry, Niall, and Zayn run in. Liam sits next to me and Zayn sits next to Perrie. Perrie, El, and I are still using our bags to cover our faces. Niall sits on the other side of me and laughs at us girls, "Get used to the paps, they're not leaving ladies."
He says it with a giggle at the end. Lou finally finishes shoving all the gifts in. There wasn't enough space in the back, so some of Harry and Niall's gifts had to be put in the seating area with us. After honking the horn several times, Lou was able to drive out.  Once we got to the main road I turned to Liam. He was wearing a tux, just like all the other guys, "Here."
I straighten his bow tie, "Thanks, you look gorgeous today."
"Was I …not g-gorgeous yesterday?" I ask with sarcasm in my voice. He laughed and pulled me close. Harry gave us the death glare, but did not say anything. Harry and Niall were talking about soccer. Harry was saying of how Manchester United is so much better than any other team. Zayn and Lou agreed with him. Niall was trying to make a point that British soccer is not as good as Irish soccer. I don't see a difference between the two. Liam piped in saying West Bromwich is the best and the two of us are going to a game this week. Perrie and  I exchanged glances, we both understand sports, but we don't talk about them twenty four seven. To tick them off I started to talk to Perrie, "Y-you know…Chinese makeup is…different than American m-makeup."
Perrie caught on saying, "But South African makeup is the best."
"No…American, it's s-so bright."
"What about French makeup?" El chirped in. The boys were hating it and it just fueled us to talk more and more.
"Can you girls be anymore boring?" Zayn asked kissing Perrie's cheek in hope for her to stop.
"We're not the ones talking about football," El says. For the rest of the ride, we talked about England since Liam and I are going there. Liam told everyone that he's never been to Buckingham Palace and everyone but me freaked out. When your the only non-British one in the car, this is what your going to get. What's the big deal never going to Buckingham Palace? I mean, I've been there before when I stayed in Chelsea during the 2012 Olympics. My family and I would just take the train to the events in London. When we arrived at the Melting Pot, a kind man lead us in. They had our table ready. I started to feel light headed, it was as if I could smell Dad everywhere. I could see his smile in every customer. I'm going to vomit. I push the thought to the back of my head. I sat next to Liam and El. Zayn, Perrie, Niall, and Harry sat across from us. Just as we sat, a group of fans came over to us and asked for pictures. While the cheeses for the fondue were warming up, all eight of us took pictures with fans. The fans gave me confused looks, none of them said that they didn't want me in the pictures though, but they asked for autographs from everyone except me. It did hurt a little, but I'm not an A-list celebrity. The fans were really sweet to the boys, I loved it when they would compliment Perrie or El, if you are a real Directioner, you would be happy with any of their girlfriends. Once all the fans had pictures, we sat down.  The fondue was already ready. Harry picked up a skewer, "Does anyone know how to work one of these?"
He was moving it around in his hands. Everyone shrugged so I spoke up, "It's…like a l-long fork. You…take the f-food, put it on the f-fork, and dip…it in the cheese."
As I was speaking, I was also demonstrating how to do it. I took my purple skewer, put an apple on it, and then twirled it around in the cheese. Everyone tried and it looked like El was getting the hang of it. Niall's food kept dropping in the cheese and he was getting really frustrated.
"How do you know how to do this, Kads?" asked Zayn. About mid sentence, Perrie put her hand on Zayn's arm as if to tell him to stop. I answer Zayn anyway, "When…my father w-was alive he always took…us here."
I look at the ground. Liam grabs my hand. Zayn is trying to find what to say, "I'm so sorry, I didn't know."
"It's fine," I smile. What didn't help was the table across from us was where we always sat. All the sudden, I hear a bunch of people screaming. Everyone else hears it because we all look in that direction. The paps are trying to get in, but the staff is trying to push them back. The paps are fist-fighting them, and someone is bound to get hurt. I don't want this to turn out like Justin Bieber and that pap or how Princess Di passed away. There are flashes through the window of the paps cameras and the police. Staff and paps are on the ground bleeding as the police come running in. The shades are closed. The cops have their weapons out to attack anyone who steps out of line. The boys look scared and El is physically shaking. Lou tries to comfort her, but she is too rattled. The entire restaurant is staring at what's going on. The police lead out the paps. Some of them try to fight back, but agree in the end. Niall is breathing really heavy, just like everyone else. One of the staff members comes out, "Sorry for that, you may return to your dinners and we will assist you if needed."
Everyone at our table has guilty looks on our faces. Though no one says it, we know it's our fault this even happened. Niall goes back to the food, as does everyone else. Zayn gets up quietly and goes to the manager. He's saying something about how sorry he is about the paps and our table will leave if he wants. The manager is shaking his head and saying something like it isn't your fault. An employee comes to take our orders. Liam, Niall, El, and I get the steak, Harry and Zayn get the chicken, and Perrie and Lou get shrimp. Once we get our food, we eat it quickly, don't have dessert as we planned and leave to go back to Lou's. We get back to the limo without a problem.
