Spirit of Wolf and Water

Cora is a normal 17 year old girl, she has a barn, and has her friends who have her back. Her father died three years ago and her and her mother dont spend very much time together anymore. But when a cougar attacks Cora and she is saved by a siren named Tuari, they go through the challenges of the water curse together. Even though Cora and Tuari live together and they know each other quite well, does Cora know Tuari well enough? Is Tuari all she says she is? Will Cora ever put the pieces of the mysterious attacks together or will it lead to a place she doesnt want to go?

39. Kota

I couldn't believe what I saw. I thought she loved me. But of course that beast had to wiggle his way back in.

"Kota wait!" Cora yelled behind me.

"Wait for a bullshit explanation?" I yelled back without stopping or turning around.

"Would you just wait!" I felt her had on my shoulder, I stopped.

"So what? Is it because Im not supernatural like you guys?"

"Kota nothing happened!" She pulled me around to face her.

I wanted to pull her in and hug her, kiss her, pretend that there wasn't something between her and Leigh.

"Please. Believe me." She begged.

"You didnt move." Her eyes widened.

"But I stopped him." Her eyes watered.

"Almost." I said coldly.

"Kota please," She begged, "I love you."

"I dont even know anymore. You go to him for help, he has all the answered, you kissed him."

"I didnt kiss him!" She said frustrated.

"You did. Before you started dating me."

She went silent.

"Was I a rebound to you? A safe option because I wasn't the mystery guy that isn't human?"

"Kota you know that none of that is true."

"Do I? What did I just walk in on?"

"Nothing baby, nothing."

I looked at her, and then looked down. Tears filled my eyes.

"I can't do this Cora," I looked at her blurry face, "I can't compete for you against someone like that."

No response.

"I love you, I have since we were kids. But until you know that Leigh isn't going to be your centre of everything. I just can't do this."

She stared sobbing, "Please Kota.. I need you."

I turned around and left with only a few words, "We're done."

When I hit the trail and could no longer feel Cora's gaze or hear her crying I ran all the way home. When I hit my bed, I cried. Giving up the one girl I had been in love with for as long as I can remember.
