After 18 Years

Darcy Tanner ran away from home on her 18th birthday, in search of her father. A little over 18 years before, her mother- Ariel- found out that she was pregnant with Harry Styles' child. She fled to America, scared to end the career that he enjoyed so much. Now, when Darcy forces Harry and Ariel to reunite will they fall back into love? Will revisiting their youth be painful or the thing that makes them happiest? Will everything be the same again, even after 18 years apart?

9. Tacos

I walked numbly to the living room, and grabbed one of my favorite movies off of Harry's shelf, Titanic. I put it in the TV. Before it started I turned off all the lights and managed to find a blanket. I made myself comfortable on the couch and watched my movie. About 3 quarters of the way through Harry came home, he curled up on the couch next to me.

We shared the huge blanket. But we didn't make any physical contact with each other. Before he sat on the couch he had set a bunch of bags in the kitchen, and I was tempted to go see what was in them. I didn't, but I pondered what the contents would be. About a half an hour after Harry got home, Darcy returned with many bags of her own. Before she went up to her room to hide, like she did at home, she walked over to her father.

“Thanks for the money, and the car. I really appreciate it Harry.” She smiled. She handed him the keys and a good amount of the money back. Then she went to get all her bags, and climbed the stairs. He looked conflicted for a moment, and I wondered if he would stop her and ask her to not call him Harry, but he said nothing.

“She managed to only spend around 2 hundred pounds... That's with lunch...” He said. I laughed.

“She's a bargain shopper, that one. She's very smart with money.” I said.

“I wonder who she got that from?” He smirked.

“Me of course!” I said.

“Yeah, maybe from a distant relative of yours.” He laughed. I joined in. It was weird that she didn't spend much when she had it, because both Harry and I always blew everything we had in our wallets. Lucky we both had bank accounts saved up huh? I checked my watch. It was around 6:30. Harry checked his watch at the same time.

“I'll start on dinner.” He grinned.

“Uh oh. What are we having?” I asked.

“Tacos.” He answered, standing up. I chuckled.

“I'm looking forward to it.” I grinned as he walked through the kitchen doors.

“Me too!” He called back. I sat on the couch alone, while the smell of Mexican food got stronger and stronger, by the time Titanic was over, Harry had come out to tell me that dinner was going to be ready soon.

“Do you wanna go get Darcy or should I?” I asked.

“I will.” He volunteered quickly, then went to sprint up the steps. I chuckled to myself as I walked into the kitchen. I saw that many of the bags were gone. He had way too many bags to have just gotten the ingredients for tacos... I brushed it aside, and leaned against the counter to wait for Harry and Darcy.

“I guess you can meet him but he's back in North Dakota.” Darcy said as she walked into the kitchen, Harry trailing behind her.

“I'd be happy to fly to North Dakota to meet him!” Harry exclaimed, looking satisfied.

“I'm sure you'll like him. He's a great guy.” Darcy smiled.

“I'm sure I'll like him too.” Harry got out three plates, and three cups.

“Are you two talking about Eric?” I asked.

“Yeah, Harry wants to meet him.” Darcy explained.

“I picked up on that.” I smirked, my eyes flickered to Harry. He had that look of confusion and frustration on his face that he got every time she called him by his first name.

“You guys can dish yourselves up.” He said, suddenly deep in thought about who knows what. We all sat down at the table, in the same places that we had sat during breakfast.

“So what did you buy today?” I asked Darcy.

“Some shirts, a couple sundresses, some shoes, and then some cute little key chains.” She answered smiling, probably proud that she got so much with so little money. “Great tacos.” She grinned at Harry. He smiled back, his eyes still conflicted. We ate our dinner, chatting about the most random things, and as soon as Darcy was done with her food she escaped upstairs. I was about to go upstairs also, to get ready for bed, when Harry put his hand on my shoulder.

“Wait.” He said, a slow smile spreading across his face. “I bought this for you today.” He continued, pulling a bag out from a cabinet under the sink. From the bag, he retrieved a long, sleeveless, flowy blue and white dress. Shorter in the front than in the back. It was a beautiful deep blue on the top, and it faded slowly to white at the bottom. Then he pulled out a pair of blue Toms, that matched the blue at the very top of the dress perfectly.

“Will you change into this upstairs, then meet me down here in 10 minutes?” He asked, giving me the option, but hoping that I'd say yes.

“Sure. Of course.” I murmured, not able to hold back my smile. He grinned wider. I took the dress and the shoes carefully, like they were flower petals, and carried them up to my room. It was kind of ridiculous because it would be hard to break a dress and shoes, but I guess I'm just weird like that...

I quickly changed into the dress, amazed at how it looked, flowing down my 5 foot 6 body. It fit perfectly. Not too tight, and not too loose... I then took my hair down and brushed through it quickly. He liked it down. I curled it with the curling iron until it looked perfect, then I brushed my teeth twice, making sure that I didn't have bad breath.

Why was I getting so worked up about this? The wide eyed, excited face that I saw in the mirror barely looked like mine. And when I looked at myself in the full length mirror I didn't believe that it was working. It must be a window... Because that woman that I saw, looked nothing like me.

I put on the shoes and shook it off. As I walked down the stairs, I noted a spring in my step that hadn't been there in forever. In, well... 18 years. It was so wrong how much being with Harry could change me, but for right now, I was okay with being wrong. I welcomed it...
