After 18 Years

Darcy Tanner ran away from home on her 18th birthday, in search of her father. A little over 18 years before, her mother- Ariel- found out that she was pregnant with Harry Styles' child. She fled to America, scared to end the career that he enjoyed so much. Now, when Darcy forces Harry and Ariel to reunite will they fall back into love? Will revisiting their youth be painful or the thing that makes them happiest? Will everything be the same again, even after 18 years apart?

“Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Ariellllllllllll, happy birthday to you.” I was awoken by Harry softly singing in my ear. I groaned, my hands shot out from under the covers to grab Harry's shirt.

“Whoa!” Harry exclaimed as I yanked him onto my bed with me, surprised by my action. “Someone's in a good mood today.” He grinned.

“What time is it?” I demanded.

“Eleven, sleepy head.” He chuckled.

“Ha! Just like old times...” I grinned.

“Mmhm, except, how old are you now?” He mused.

“Twenty Nine.” I retorted.

“Plus ten.” Harry chuckled.

“No! Not plus ten! Only plus nine!” I argued. Harry laughed at his little joke. Yup, 38... Sigh

“Hey, mister, you're six months older than me.” I reminded him.

“Ah, I forgot about that.” He muttered, reaching over to leave a kiss on my neck.

“Anyway, Darcy and I made you breakfast.” He informed, I smiled.

“Let's go eat then.” I said, hopping out of bed.

“Nice hair Medusa.” He chuckled, attempting to smooth a few strands down. While he did that I reached up and pulled on his hair so that it stood on end.

“Now we match.” I smirked.

“Problem solved.” He took my hand, his eyes rolling as he towed me out of the room and downstairs to the kitchen. Mmmm, it smelled amazing.... Darcy was showered and dressed, sitting at the table.

“Mum? Dad? What happened to your hair?” She raised confused eyebrows at us.

“Well, mine is bed head, and I didn't want Harry to feel left out so I messed his up too.” I explained, just realizing how strange it really was.

“The breakfast smells great hunny.” I complimented Darcy, but it was directed toward Harry as well.

“Thanks, Dad and I made it for your birthday.” She smiled lovingly. I hugged her before going over to check out the dishes. Sitting on the island were a variety of foods... Sausages, bacon, pancakes, scrambled eggs, various fruit and a pot of tea. It all made my stomach grumble. Darcy, Harry and I sat down for the next hour, and ate brunch. Most of the time was spent chatting, which was perfect. We were a family, and I absolutely loved when we acted like one.

“Here mum.” Darcy smiled afterward, pulling a neatly wrapped box from underneath the table. The paper was my favorite shade of blue.

“You know I don't like presents.” I scolded her lightly. She only laughed, setting the box in front of me.

“Open it.” She grinned. I did, my heart swelling with love for my baby girl. Inside were two things. On top was that shirt she picked out for me at the store a few days ago, the shredded one.

I smirked, “Real funny Darc.” Under the shirt- if it could even be classified as a 'shirt'- was the single from One Direction's third album. Best Song Ever.

“Where did you even find this??” I laughed, staring down at it. Of course I had Midnight Memories, and all the other albums, but I never bought the singles...

“Some classic record shop Theo brought me to. He told me that Uncle Niall told him that it was about you two. Is that true?” She looked a little worried. Because she didn't know if what Theo said was accurate or not.

“Yeah. It's about the night we met.” I smiled hugely. Out of the corner of my eye I could see Harry's grin. Darcy now looked delighted instead of worried. She should be happy, it's amazing she found the single, on a CD, 19 years later...

“Thank you so much Darc!” I reached over and hugged her.

“I've got something, as well.” Harry grinned mischievously. He knew very well that I didn't like presents. But obviously he didn't care! So stubborn... He set in front of me a small box, wrapped in gold paper with a bow on top.

Inside the box was a little mermaid necklace (Haha very funny). It was a side view of the princess, her hair mostly covered her face, only the shape of a nose visible. The hair was made of little red rubies, the skin of diamonds, the sea-shell bra of purple sapphires, and the tail of emeralds. I chuckled quietly. It was amazingly beautiful, and ironic. The second thing in the box was a bottle of royal purple nail polish. He remembered! This was the color I always kept my toenails! (Until I got pregnant, then I had a little trouble reaching my feet...)

Thank you.” I smiled, reaching up to kiss him.

“You're welcome.” He said softly, reaching over to grab the necklace. He placed the pretty accessory around my neck. I admired how it reflected beams of light onto the table.

“I love you two.” I sighed, looking from my daughter to my soul mate.

I never thought- until Darcy's 18th birthday- that they'd ever meet each other. But there I sat, at breakfast with my family. And we were happy, and smiling, and talking... Truly incredible.

I wanted to find a way to thank Darcy for forcing me to come here, she made my life whole again. It was because of her that I was as happy as I'll ever be, and how I wouldn't have to go through another year being sad on what should have been our wedding day and on the anniversary of the day I left. I could be me again, all of me, now that we were together...
