After 18 Years

Darcy Tanner ran away from home on her 18th birthday, in search of her father. A little over 18 years before, her mother- Ariel- found out that she was pregnant with Harry Styles' child. She fled to America, scared to end the career that he enjoyed so much. Now, when Darcy forces Harry and Ariel to reunite will they fall back into love? Will revisiting their youth be painful or the thing that makes them happiest? Will everything be the same again, even after 18 years apart?

12. Our Daughter

At around midnight I sighed quietly, getting sick of staring at the ceiling.

“So you are awake.” Harry mumbled beside me. I almost jumped out of my chair. He was as awake as I was.

“You should sleep.” I scolded, the mother in me making an appearance. He needed it, he was injured.

“I'm not tired.” He said simply.

“Me neither... Are you in pain?” I asked, ready to push the button to call the nurse in.

“No. I'm fine.” He insisted. I relaxed.

“I really enjoyed our date. I haven't had a chance to tell you that.” He grinned. We were both whispering so that we didn't wake Darcy.

“The beginning was nice.” I agreed.

“Honestly... The whole thing at the end didn't phase me much...” He shrugged. Tough guy huh?

“You should have seen your face when Darcy called you 'Dad', despite the scenario, you looked absolutely delighted.” I chuckled softly.

“I couldn't have been happier. I hope that she doesn't go back to calling me Harry...” He said.

“I don't think she will.” I smiled at my- our, daughter, asleep in the comfy chair in the corner of the room.

“I want her to leave before us tomorrow. I'll give her some money to get a cab home. The paps are going to be waiting outside. Darcy doesn't need to be involved in the drama quite yet.” Harry said, following my gaze.

“Yeah, I guess they don't know about Darcy...” I remembered. No one outside of the 1D family knew that she was Harry's daughter.

“If we all walk out together tomorrow that's going to raise some commotion. If it's just you and I, Darcy won't have to deal with the people in her face.” He continued.

“I agree.” I nodded.

“So...” Harry said, the corners of his mouth twitching, like he was trying not to smile.

“What?” I asked.

“Will you go out on a date with me? A real one, out in public?” He asked, a hopeful look in his eyes. I smiled down at my hands in my lap.

“Sure, sure. I'd very much like that.” I said. Harry smiled hugely. Then something caught both of our eyes. We looked over at Darcy. She still looked asleep, other than the grin spread across her face. Harry and I laughed. There was a minute of silence before anybody spoke, and I began to think that Harry may have fallen asleep.

“Where do you work now?” He asked suddenly, proving that he still was very much awake. I guess I hadn't really gotten to talk to him about my life in America...

“I am president of the Apple manufacturing company. They have offices in North Dakota, and then factories all around the world that I travel to.” I said.

“Have you ever traveled here for work?” He asked.

“Many times... It made me anxious.” I answered. I was always in fear that Harry would somehow find me and I would have to explain that I had a daughter to go back to in ND...

“When did you start coming here?” He asked.

“About 15 years ago... One of my friends always stayed at the house and took care of Darcy.” I said.

“If I'd known, that you were here...” He said slowly, not looking at me anymore.

“One of the first years I came here I went to a One Direction concert.” I admitted. I was paranoid the entire time, but I still went. To see them all once more. And to hear their voices again.

“You did?” He asked, surprised.

“Yeah.” I nodded.

“What row were you in?” He asked.

“5th row, 18th seat.” I answered, remembering every minute of that night. I thought it was going to be the last time I ever saw him in person.

“I looked. Every concert for you in the crowd. How did I possibly miss...” He trailed off, speaking more to himself than to me.

“You looked at me a few times. And the expression on your face made me worry that you recognized me... But after the first time I ducked behind the girl in front of me whenever you could have possibly seen me.” I said.

“It's not like I could have done much if I knew it was you.” He sighed. I nodded. We sat in silence for a few seconds.

“Wait, if you're the president of Apple manufacturing why do you still have the iPhone 15?” He smirked, changing the subject completely.

“My phone is just fine.” I smirked.

“I don't know, the 26 is pretty awesome.” He said, nodding toward the desk next to his bed, where his phone sat. I chuckled.

“It's so expensive though...” I said. $800 for a phone? When mine still works perfectly... Seemed irrational.

“I guess. But I assume you get a discount.” He challenged.

“Yes, I do, but I saved up my 'coupons' and bought Darcy a laptop for her birthday.” I used the word coupons loosely, because it's not like they gave me actual paper coupons, but they kept track how many discounts I received.

“That's sweet.” He smiled.

“She wanted it really bad, and she goes to college in September, so I figured a new laptop would be helpful.” I explained.

“College...” Harry repeated in awe. “In a little over a month...” He added.

“She's been given a fantastic opportunity. She got scholarships to Cal-tech and MIT. They're fighting over her, and as of now I'm pretty sure she's decided on MIT.” I said. It was unbelievable.

“Wow. Cal-tech and MIT... That's amazing...” He said. I'm sure he felt just as proud as I did.

“And then the University of Minnesota wants her for women’s soccer.” I added.

“That;s my girl! We'll have to go out with the boys and all play football some time.” Harry said. “If I remember right, you used to be a fantastic player.” He grinned.

“Where do you think she learned her skills from?” I smirked. He chuckled. We talked for awhile longer, then I told him I was tired, and that I wanted to sleep. I wasn't actually tired at all. Soon after we finished talking Harry began to snore. Loudly, I might add. Darcy was snoring too. I guess I know where she got that from. I stared back at the ceiling and lost myself in thought. I daydreamed all night. That sounded backwards, but that's what I did...
