After 18 Years

Darcy Tanner ran away from home on her 18th birthday, in search of her father. A little over 18 years before, her mother- Ariel- found out that she was pregnant with Harry Styles' child. She fled to America, scared to end the career that he enjoyed so much. Now, when Darcy forces Harry and Ariel to reunite will they fall back into love? Will revisiting their youth be painful or the thing that makes them happiest? Will everything be the same again, even after 18 years apart?

11. Hospitals

Darcy and I sat down in the waiting room after they took Harry away. I hated hospitals, they made me anxious, so as you can imagine I was completely freaking out. On the inside...

A nurse came out to greet us after about two hours- which felt more like days.

“Are you Harry Styles' family?” She asked.

“Yes, is he okay?” I answered frantically

“Yes, he's doing well, and he asked to see you both.” She smiled kindly.

“Okay, where is he?” I asked.

“Room 315.” She said. I pulled Darcy to her feet and into the elevator. We were at room 315 in what was probably record time. I took a deep breath before going in, Darcy patted me on the shoulder. I opened the door slowly, and peeked in. I would have to walk all the way into the room to be able to see Harry.

“I'll stay out here for now, you come get me when you want.” Darcy said. She knew that I was upset, and that I was holding it in for her.

“Are you sure?” I asked.

“Definitely.” She said.

“I won't be long.” I said uncertainly. I closed the door, Darcy on the other side, and walked slowly deeper into the room until Harry came into view. He looked so vulnerable... I couldn't handle seeing him crippled in that hospital bed. Seeing him bandaged and hooked up to so many machines made all the emotions flood to the surface.

He was mostly covered by a thin looking blanket, but his injured leg was being elevated up to where you could see it. He smiled at me, which triggered the tears to flow.

“Ariel! Please don't cry! Come here.” He said softly. I pulled a chair up next to his bed. My head rested on his shoulder as I cried.

“I'm fine. It really wasn't that bad. And hey, now I'll have a scar, and scars are hot right?” He laughed lightly.

“Not ones that are my fault.” I answered, staring down at the bed. He lifted my chin with his index finger.

“Were you the one with the gun in your hand?” He questioned.

“No but Dan did what he did because of me.” I whispered.

“No. He did it because of him. He decided not to deal with things like a grown up. He decided to have a tantrum, and wave a gun around.” Harry said, staring deep into my eyes. “It was not your fault. I don't blame you one bit.”

“Okay. Okay.” I took a couple deep breaths.

“So, now that Dan is out of the picture, will you kiss me?” He smirked after a minute of silence.

“You might have to work for that.” I grinned.

“Come on! We had a wonderful romantic date, and I'm crippled! That's gotta count towards something!” He laughed. I rolled my eyes.

“I don't know, I think I might make you work for it for a few more days.” I laughed. But I was serious. I think that if I kissed him right now, I might cry again, or propose to him or something...

“I guess I'll manage...” He said, probably already thinking of ways to get me to kiss him. My eyes then wandered to my left hand, where Dan's engagement ring rested. I had given Harry back the one that he got me when we were younger. I now took Dan's off my finger. I stood up and opened the window on the back wall, sighing as I gave the ring a good toss out into the parking lot. When I looked back Harry was smiling at me. He probably took my action as a victory on his part.

“I'm going to get Darcy.” I muttered as I walked to the door, “Come on in sweetheart” I whispered when I found her sitting in the hall. She came in slowly, unsure, then pulled up a chair on Harry's other side.

“How are you feeling?” She asked.

“Great actually. You were pretty awesome today Darc. Knocking the guy out. I was impressed.” He grinned. Darcy smiled a small smile.

“Really? Cool...” She said.

“You pretty much saved the day. Except you should keep a better eye on who your mother dates. I don't know what kind of psychopaths she got into the past 18 years, but wow...” Harry grinned at me. Darcy giggled.

“Yeah, I'd much rather she married you.” She looked at me with hope in her eyes.

“I'd rather she married me too...” Harry agreed. I smiled at my hands, hearing a nurse walk in.

“Hello, um, we'd like to keep Harry for the night, but it was just a flesh wound, so he can probably go home tomorrow.” She said, “Oh, and there are a bunch of guys with cameras asking to get in...” She trailed off.

“No! No, get them to go away, please.” Harry said.

“Okay, if you need anything buzz someone in.” She smiled, then left, closing the door behind her. Harry lay his head against the wall behind him.

“The paps are here...” He sighed.

“It's okay. She said that she wasn't going to let them in.” I tried to reassure him, but found myself nervous. I got up and closed the shades on the window.

“How do you think people will react to us being together, and my ex, shooting you? And the fact that you have a long lost daughter with me.” I asked, more and more questions building up. What if they interviewed Dan?? I felt panic begin to creep up on me. Harry put his hand on my cheek.

“We'll deal no matter what. They could think that it's the sweetest thing ever, or that we don't deserve love. You never know.” He said. I guess he knew what we were dealing with.

“Okay. We'll get through.” I nodded, more to myself than to anyone else. Darcy and I spent the day at the hospital, keeping Harry busy by talking to him. He never seemed to be in pain, so either the painkillers were really strong, or he was good at faking it.

When night time came, I made the decision to stay overnight at the hospital with Harry, and gave Darcy the choice to either stay also, or to get a cab back to Harry's. She chose to stay at the hospital as well. And judging by the snoring, she definitely slept, but I didn't sleep a wink...
