14. The Ghost

Lydia's P.O.V.

I watched Nicki fiddled with the plastic bag. She looked so sad. I didn't understand. I looked around at my surroundings. People in scrubs, stretchers, I.V.s . . . I was in a hospital. I sat down next to Nicki to see what was in the plastic bag. Soon there was a buzzing noise from the bag. She took out my cell phone and held it to her ear.

   "Hello?" She answered.

"Nicki, why do you have my phone?" I asked, she didn't respond, "Why are we even here? Who's hurt?"

"No it's not Lydia," She said quite rudely to whoever was on the other line, "It's Nicki. What do you want?"

"Nicki, who is that?" I asked. I put my hand on her shoulder to shake it, but it just fell through. I was confused. Hands don't do that. I got up and walked around.

"Excuse me?" I said to a nurse. No response, "Hello?" I said to a tall, dark man sitting down. Still, no response. I sat back down next to Nicki. I must be dead, I thought. That idea didn't scare me though. I could be ready for death.

"Actually, she can't talk right now. And even if she could, she wouldn't talk to you!" Nicki yelled through the phone, "How could you? To her of all people! You know, I really didn't want to believe what a lot of the media implied, but you really are a man whore!"

Harry. She was talking to Harry. I remembered then. "I was walking through town," I told myself, "Because I was hurt. Harry hurt me. Why? How? I was looking at my phone. Then I was looking at the sky. Some people put me in an ambulance, and brought me here. They worked on my head." I reached up to my forehead. Nothing was there. No bruise or cut or scrape. It was perfectly fine.

"Well, I'm sorry, but she can'rt come to the phone right now, she's going on life support!" She yelled again, hanging up the phone. So, I wasn't dead. Yet.

I could see she was frustrated, hurt, and sad. So sad. I frowned to myself. Nicki was one of the happiest people I knew. The only time I had seen her this sad was when her dad left. And even then, she didn't cry. But she never cried. That was kind of her thing. About half an hour later, She got up, and walked to the elevator. I didn't want to be by myself so I followed. As she walked in, I slipped past her, inside. I knew I could just go through her, but that felt weird. I didn't like it. When we had reached the floor, she got out and walked into the gift store. I watched from a distance, as she picked out a dark brown teddy bear with a green ribbon around it's neck.

"Lydia Von Leffern, what room?" A voice said. I turned around to see Harry standing at a counter, with the rest of the band.  The lady replied, quietly, so I couldn't hear.

"I'm her boyfriend!" Harry half yelled, "Can't you just let me in?" When the lady said no, Harry went to sit down, and put his face in his hands. The rest of the boys surrounded him, trying to comfort him. Except Niall. Niall started to walk in my direction. For a moment, it seemed like he could see me. But he just kept walking and turned in the gift shop. I watched as he walked up to Nicki, and asked her something. I couldn't here. Yet I really didn't want to here. I was more concerned with Harry. I walked up to him and watched as he tried to stop from crying in front of the boys.

"What if she dies?" He asked the boys, "My whole world will just collapse." He stopped talking. He took a deep breath and let it out, "I need to get up there. I need to be with her. I need to tell her what really happened. I need to tell her how I feel about her." He paused for a moment, "I love her."  He said quietly, more to himself than the other boys, who were trying everything they could to make him feel better.

"Niall got her floor and room!" Liam yelled running towards us. Harry jumped up, and ran up the stairs, with the rest of the boys following. I quickly followed them as fast as I could. I was a pretty slow ghost. By the time I got up there, Harry was in  my room, and Niall was talking with Nicki. I looked at the clock to see what time it was. Bad choice. The clock started spinning fast, taking time with it. I tried to stop it but it wouldn't stop. I watched Nicki get up and go to my room, then Niall, and then they both came out and down the elevator. Finally, at 4:09 am, it stopped. I walked over to the room, and tried to open the door. No use. I held my breath and walked through the door. It gave me chills down my spine.

Harry was sitting in a chair, holding my hand. I looked at myself. I was a mess. My forehead had a huge bruise on it, and I had tubes everywhere. My hair was a mess and I was so pale.

"We're gonna come out with a new song soon," He talked to me as if my body could hear him, "We were given it while in Ireland. It reminds me of you. Can I sing you a few bars?" He asked. I nodded my head, even though I knew he couldn't see me. He started to sing with a soft and slow tone, "Maybe it's the way she walked, straight into my heart and stole it. Through the doors and past the guards, just like she already owned it." His face was weak, "See, that's like you. You stole my heart, even though you've already had it." He told me. He took a deep breath before starting to sing again, "I said can you give it back to me, she said never in you're wildest dreams,"He stopped singing and looked at my hand, "She's stubborn, like you."  He whispered, "And we danced all night to the best song ever, we knew every line, but now I can't remember how it goes but I know that I won't forget her." He stopped and started to silently sob. I wanted to do everything in my power to get back to him. I tried to move my body. It felt as if my body and I were connected from limb to limb with strings, like a puppet. I tried to move my hand.

"Come on!" I yelled out of frustration. Tears were slipping out of my eyes. My vision was getting clouded, and darkened. I was leaving, "I don't want to go yet! Please!" I didn't know who I was yelling at, but it was whoever was taking me into that dark place I was before I saw Nicki. Suddenly, I felt my hand. Something was touching my hand. Harry. I tried to move it. I could only seem to move my thumb. So I did. It was getting darker. Harry sat up and called for a doctor. The dark finally consumed me. I was alone. In the dark.

"Dee? Lydia?" Harry's voice echoed. I could still hear him. I kept trying to get control of my body, but nothing worked.Suddenly, I was being lifted. Higher and higher and higher until I was there.

I opened my eyes, then quickly shut them again, trying to adjust to the lights. I blinked my eyes until I could see clearly. I was in a hospital bed. What happened to me? I looked over to my left. There was a woman in a lab coat smiling at me.

"Well, good morning!" She said cheerfully. I looked over to my left. Harry was there, holding my hand.
