18. The End

Lydia's P.O.V.

I put on the long, elegant, gray bridesmaid dress. I examined myself in the mirror. My hair was in curls, and my makeup was light. I twirled around and giggled to myself.

"You ready to go babe?" Harry asked walking in on my twirling. I watched a smile creep up on his face, "Havin' fun there?"

   "I am!" I said proudly.

"Well, If we don't get going, we're gonna be late." He said, walking out of our bedroom. I sighed and walked out of our room.

It's been 4 years since Louis and Eleanor's party. They're now married with a little boy named David and are expecting another one on the way. Zayn and Perry are also happily married. They've been for two years now. Liam's engaged to a girl he met about a year ago named Kelly. Niall and Nicki are getting married today. And Harry and I are . . . well . . . here. Living together for two years and no mention of a proposal anytime soon. I mean, we've talked about getting married before, but that was at the start of the year. It's October. I'm in no rush, of course! We're only in our early twenties. I just see all my friends go through these amazing moments and a bit of jealousy runs through my veins.

The wedding was beautiful! It was a small outdoors wedding right outside of London. Nicki was stunning. She wore a short, teacup white dress, with lace sleeves. We didn't have to worry as much about the screaming fans. After a while, One Direction died down a bit. They weren't as popular. Only because everyone was starting to move on with their lives. It was tough to maintain a boy band when the all the boys grew up into men.

The reception was held at a hotel down the road. We had rented out the patio and strung glass jars with candles everywhere. The hotel was right next to a river which added to the beauty. Harry and I sat at the table with the happy bride and groom. Harry, as the best man, sat next to Niall and I, being the maid of honor, sat next to Nicki. Nicki nodded at me, giving me the signal, that it was my turn to speak. I stood up and clinked my glass. Soon enough, all eyes were on me.

"First off, I would just like to say a congrats to two of my best friends," I started, "You two are gorgeous together. You deserve one another. For those who don't know me, I'm the cousin of the bride. The maid of honor. Let me tell you, I got the hard job!" I got a little giggle from the audience, "I attend to the bride-to-be's needs day and night. I watched Nicki  work for this wedding with all her might. Even watching her was tiring. So, Niall volunteered to take her place and stay with me to help get wedding plans ready. He had no idea what he was in for! An hour in, he was stressed to the max." Another giggle from the crowd,  "There was a point where I caught him alone, trying to unwind. He sat on a balcony, looking up at the stars. I brought him a drink and stayed with him for a bit. We talked about how tired we were, and how much we wished we could go home. It was silent for a moment before he said something completely out of the blue. He said 'I love her'. And he sounded so sincere. He thought about it for another moment and said, 'I'd do this a million and two times over again, just so I could be with her'" I looked over at a blushed Nicki and Niall, I raised my glass, "To Nicki and Niall!" We toasted and I sat down.

Nicki and Niall had left for they're honeymoon, and people were starting to head out. I felt a hand tap on my shoulder, and turned around to see a dashing Harry smiling. I couldn't help but notice that he pulled off a tux incredibly well. It has been on my mind since this morning.

"You ready to go?" I asked him.

"Actually, no," Harry replied, grabbing a hold of my waist. He grabbed my hand and led me to the dance floor where he spun me around.

"What are you doing?" I laughed. Only a few people remained at the hotel. We were the only two on the dance floor.

"Dancing with you of course," He said very mater of fact. I listened as L.O.V.E. by Nat King Cole played in the background.

"So, did you enjoy the wedding?" I smiled at him. He led me more and more of the dance floor, yet still dancing, "Where are we going?"

"We are making a small detour." He winked. Still dancing, he led me behind the building into a small garden, lit by candles on the bordering fence. It was dazzling.

"Oh this is adorable!" My face lit up. He smiled at it, and spun me around gently.

"Well, I needed a special place for a special question." He said.

"And whats that?" I asked.

"Hmm, not sure if you should know yet," He teased. I tensed up.

"Not fair!" I playfully pushed his shoulder, "I want you to ask me! Please?"

"Not fair my arse!" He laughed back, "Just yesterday you were supposed to tell me about that dream you had, but you decided not to just to mess with me!"

"No, that's different!" I giggled, "Ask me!"

"You really want me to ask you?" He challenged.

"Yes!" I replied.

"Are you sure?" He teased.

"Just tell me!" I said impatient.

"Fine!" He almost shouted.

"Fine!" I said back.

"Fine!" He repeated. He slowly got down to one knee and pulled a small black box from his pocket. He opened it to reveal a vintage looking diamond ring. He grabbed my hands and gave me a nervous expression, "Lydia, I love you. I always have and I always will. I want to go through life with you always right by my side. I can't imagine continuing my life without you. You are the most beautiful, elegant, amazing person I have ever met. You are the best friend I have ever had." He took a big gulp before continuing, "Will you please do me the honor of marrying me?"

Everything seemed so right. Tears welled up in my eyes. I held onto his hands tighter and whispered, "Yes."
