James cares for his country. But he worries about Isobel and that stirred something inside of him which could stir something bigger in the country.

(It is set in the olden days incase that isn't clear in my writing haha, not quite sure what year, but somewhere waaaaay far back like in the 1400s :D)

29. 29.

I stand on the widow's walk on the roof of the palace, looking out for any sign that James is coming home soon. He was supposed to have an hour meeting, but it's midnight now and he still hasn't returned. I know I'm supposed to be resting in bed, but I can't. Plus, the night air is cool and fresh which is exactly what I need right now.

I start thinking about the baby, wondering whether it's a boy or a girl. I know I hope it's a boy, but I have a real feeling that it's a boy too. I don't know, it's hard to explain. Something is just telling me it's a boy. I'm happy about that; not only would it mean we have an heir to the throne, I just feel like I'd love a little boy running around and James would love to have a son. I always find myself referring to the baby as "he" now.

The baby is restless right now. He's not just kicking, but I can feeling him wriggling around, switching from one side to the other, rolling over. He won't keep still and it's really really weird but kind of magical.

"Izzy?" a voice says from behind me. For a split second, I think it's James but I turn around and see it's just Ezra. "It's freezing out here, come inside."

I want to argue but I see no reason to so I just nod and follow him down the stairs. He's about to leave my room as I'm settling down in bed when he hesitates and turns around.

"There's been word from James, Izzy." He says, looking me in the eye. "He was at the meeting in the North and there was a small rebellion against him."

My heart jumps. "A rebellion? What about?"

"You." Ezra says. "They're not happy that he is marrying a commoner and bringing in a child with common blood to the royal family."

"But the South are perfectly happy." I frown. "Why do the North care?"

"They've always been rivals, just slightly." Ezra continues. "If the South are happy about something so big, the North will rebel against it."

"Is James safe?" I suddenly ask, fear washing over me.

"He's fine. They're keeping him there until it all dies down a little bit. Don't worry Iz, he'll be home in the morning."
