James cares for his country. But he worries about Isobel and that stirred something inside of him which could stir something bigger in the country.

(It is set in the olden days incase that isn't clear in my writing haha, not quite sure what year, but somewhere waaaaay far back like in the 1400s :D)

27. 27.

"Izzy, there are loads of people outside!" Tilly rushes into my room.

My stomach lurches and I'm not sure whether it's due to the baby or nerves. I'm in mine and James' room, getting some posh, detailed dress fitted and put onto me ready to go and make the announcement with him. I wish he was in here now but my the kind lady, Margaret who is sorting my dress out told him strictly but fondly "I don't care if you are the king, no men allowed, your majesty!" and shut the door in his face. James told me she's always been like a mother to him when his real mother has been too busy for him which is most times.

"I know, Tilly." I say weakly.

"Really!" she says. "They're filling the entire block for this announcement."

"I know Tilly." I repeat.

My mother senses my nerves and nods at Tilly, telling her to go and find Ezra. I breath out relieved that I won't snap at her now. Just as Margaret is finishing putting my hair in some fancy updo, James wanders into the room.

"Hey!" Margaret frowns, folding her arms but you can tell she's not really angry. She's that type of lady. About sixty, short and tubby and kind. "James, I have known you since you were a baby and even though you are in charge of this country, I told you, do not come in this room and what do you do? You just walked right in here!"

"Sorry Mags." James kisses her cheek. "I wanted to see Isobel if that's alright?"

"I suppose that's fine, she's all done." Margaret says.

I am looking in the mirror. The dress is beautiful; red with gold detailing, definitely the most beautiful thing I've ever worn! But somehow it's even more beautiful with my little bump sticking out. I feel like it's part of me now and like it always has been.

"Hello you." James smiles. He's in his usual outfit that he wears for all of his royal errands. "How are you both?"

It's a habit he's got into, asking how the baby and I are and it's cute. "Grand." I smile, my arms automatically going around his shoulders and his going around my waist.

"Good. Nervous?"

"I am." I admit.

"Don't be." he kisses me quickly. "It's not good for the baby or you, my beautiful queen to be."

I smile and everything's okay until Margaret bustles back into the room.

"They're ready for you!" she grins.

"Come on then." James says, giving me a quick smile.

We walk down to the main doors, my heart thumping in my chest. We're going to stand on a sort of stage while all of the crowd is standing before us. James is going out first and begin his speech and then bring me out. Nobody knows anything about me. They're going to be in for a shock when they find out that James is even with someone, let alone marrying someone.

"Out I go." James kisses me again. "See you in five minutes."

I smile weakly and he walks out of the door. I can hear the crowds cheering and him laughing and starting his speech but it's as if I'm listening to it all through water; everything's blurred. I can barely see straight when I hear James say:

"And in fact, as I talk you through these subjects today, a very special girl stands behind those doors and she is standing with another little person that isn't quite here yet, but I'd love for you, my people, to meet them both."

The doors open for me and I walk out, feeling dazed. I know I should be acting confident but I am still quite out of it. All of the sound is still blurred and so is my peripheral vision. I just have a circle of clear vision in front of me. I see James but as I approach him, I look out at the crowd and I can just see a circle of them. They're all looking at me expectantly and I know I'm meant to say something but I can't think what at all.

James twigs on. "This, ladies and gentleman, is your future Queen Isobel and she is carrying our child, the possible heir for the throne." he says, pleased.

All of a sudden, the crowd errupts in applause and everything is clear. I sigh, relieved and I can see everyone and hear everything and I'm fine. They like me. There's nothing to be nervous about. I smile and James chuckles happily, kissing my cheek and holding me to him. The applause dies down.

"Hello everybody." I say as loud as I can. "I'm sorry about a moment ago. The baby effects me in strange ways."

Everybody laughs including James.

"But thank you all for coming out today." I smile at them, my hand subconsciously resting on the bump. "You don't know how much it means to me and I hope I can be a good queen for you and I promise you all now, I'll try my hardest."

Everyone cheers again and we wander back inside. They keep cheering though, so we go to one of the windows in the palace and wave. Eventually it starts to rain so everyone goes home, but we stay at the window to see them all go safely.

"You did well." James says, turning me around so he can look at me.

I smile. "Thank you."

He smiles back and kisses me.
