James cares for his country. But he worries about Isobel and that stirred something inside of him which could stir something bigger in the country.

(It is set in the olden days incase that isn't clear in my writing haha, not quite sure what year, but somewhere waaaaay far back like in the 1400s :D)

12. 12.

James returns at seven in the evening.

"Hello." I smile, closing my book and getting up to greet him.

"How are you feeling?" he asks, putting his arms around my waist.

"Better." I smile and it's true. The food helped and I had a bath when I discovered the en suite bathroom on this floor. My stomach only really hurts if I touch it now, even if the bruises are still obvious.

"Good." he smiles, leaning down to kiss me.

Now this is unlike me, but I have been bored all day and I realised that I am falling in love with James so I turn the kiss into more. I am glad for my confidence which means I'm not nervous about this and James welcomes it, slipping my nightdress off. In my head I am thinking "What? What?!" but hey, I can't complain.

"I love you." James says afterwards, smiling. He leans over me and kisses me.

I chuckle. "I love you too."

"I can tell-"

"Oh shut up." I laugh.

He laughs too, kissing me again. I smile, resting my hand on the back of his neck, pulling him towards me a bit or pulling me towards him... we meet somewhere in the middle. We are both smiling and it just seems weird that this is happening. Here's me, all bruised and pale and common with my green eyes. And there is James, the future king, with his soft skin all tanned, his eyes pale blue and clear and him just being genuinely beautiful.

As I am getting dressed again in a dress that James has found me, I turn to him. He looks so peaceful. He hasn't really bothered getting dressed, he's just lying on the bed, under the covers, reading the book I was earlier.

"I don't get how you were so engaged by this book." he frowns. "It's not very good."

"Fine." I grab it out of his hands, smiling playfully. "I'll take it with me."

James grabs it back, narrowing his eyes. "Tomorrow, right?"

I take it back. "Now."

"Oh come on." James scoffs. "It's nine o'clock at night! You might as well stay the night."

"I can't spend another night awake worrying in that bed." I say firmly. "So either I walk home or you take me and make sure I'm fine. I'm going, the choice is yours to whether you join me or not."

He sighs, shaking his head. "Let's go. Horse, no carriage though."

"Fine by me." I put my hands up as he storms past. I can't help but laugh at his sulky state.
