8. Chapter 8: Explanations

I wanted to see Landon again. I shouldn't have snapped like that. I pulled on my boots and left. I walked through the forest to Jax and Landon's cabin. I zipped up my jacket.

I knocked on the front door and waited. Landon answered it. I gave him a smile.

"I'm glad you're here." He said. "We need to talk." I nodded my head. I walked in. It didn't look like Jax was here. We sat down on the couch. I looked around. The cabin looked exactly like mine. I had bought things to make the house look more like me. This one looked plain but cozy.

"What do you want to talk about?" I asked him. He ran his fingers through his hair.

"I guess I haven't been the nicest to you." I nodded my head. "I'm not usually quiet. There's something about you that causes me to act that way." My heart fluttered.

"Is that good or bad?" I asked him. He smiled.

"It's good," he said. I smiled. "Maybe we could start over?"

"I'd like that. But you better talk to me this time." I joked. He laughed.

"I promise." Landon said, grabbing my hand. Warmth went through my body.

"I came over here to apologize. I shouldn't have snapped like that. I'm sorry." I said to him. I have a feeling that things won't be awkward between us anymore.

"You don't have to apologize." He said, moving closer to me. I wanted to kiss him.

"I also wanted to talk about us." He raised his eyebrows. "What are we? I really like you, but if you don't like me that's fi-" I was cut off by him smashing his lips to mine.

We pulled away out of breath. "I really like you too." Landon said. I smiled.

"What are we then?" I asked looking at my lap.

"Will you be my girlfriend?" He asked. I smiled and nodded my head. I smashed my lips to his this time. An image of the dream I had flooded into my mind and I pulled away. Why must I remember that dream now? "What's wrong?" He asked. I shook my head.

"I'm fine." I said, running my fingers through my hair. "I should get going. I'll see you later." I got up from the couch and ran from his house. I shifted into my wolf and ran.

Cameron ruins everything for me! I can't blame him though. I was the one that had the dream.

Cameron's POV

I lost her scent. How am I going to find her now? I was in a small town. I was in the forest. I couldn't have anybody seeing me. I'm a giant wolf. I noticed cabins around the forest. They weren't close together. This wasn't a pack; I would've already been attacked or questioned.

I heard movement behind me. I turned around to come face to face with a white wolf. My heart hammered against my chest. Only one person was able to cause that. It can't be her, can it? She froze. We locked eyes. I wanted to say something. What would I say though?

"Cameron?" She said.

"Zee," I said feeling relieved that I found her. I could tell that she couldn't believe I was here. I can't believe I've finally found her.

"What are you doing here?" She growled. I knew she was going to be upset.

"I had to find you." I said. Her eyes brightened, but it soon faded. My heart was still beating fast. I'm sure she can hear it.

"You didn't have to find me." She said. "I'm fine." She turned around to leave.

"Wait," I called after her. We could probably solve this better if we were in human form. I shifted. She soon shifted after me. We were both barefoot.

"What do you want, Cameron?" She asked. I could tell she was stressed about something.

"I just had to find you." I said. Her green eyes glared at me.

"I ran away to get away from you." She said. I closed my eyes and then opened them.

"That's not true, Zee. You felt trapped there." Her eyebrows furrowed. She has had a rough life. I didn't make it any better and that was killing me.

"I didn't want to marry you." She said. She looked down at the ground. She was deep in thought. What she said hurt. I knew she wouldn't love me forever.

"I know that." I said, walking closer to her. She looked up from the ground. Her eyes widened when she saw how close we were.

"I'm not going back, Cameron. If that's the reason you came here then you should go back home." Why won't she believe me?

"Your father told me that you ran away. I felt awful, Zee. I love you." Her heart started beating faster. "I had to come and find you because I love you. I couldn't see a life without you." I said. I brushed a piece of hair out of her face. She shivered under my touch.

"You don't love me, Cameron." She said. "It was all a lie. You messed with my heart." Tears were brimming her eyes. My heart shattered. I shook my head.

"It wasn't a lie. I'm so sorry for hurting you. What I did wasn't right." She nodded her head. "I get it if you never forgive me, Zee."

"Why did you do it?" She asked.

"My dad didn't want me to be friends with a female wolf. When I told him that I thought you were my mate he told me I needed to stop talking to you. He wanted my mate to be from my pack. He didn't understand why it was you. I didn't want him to hurt you so I stopped talking to you. I had to be around you so I started picking on you. I thought it was alright because I didn't mean any of it at all, but you didn't know that. It killed me inside never being around you. I know I didn't handle the situation very well. I'm so sorry."

"Are you telling the truth?" I nodded my head. "You're right you didn't handle it very well." She said. It sounded like she was trying to joke. I wanted that with her again. "I forgive you." She said.

"You forgive me?"

"That's what I said, wasn't it?" She joked. She smiled at me. I laughed, causing her to laugh too.

"I will never hurt you again, Zee." I said.

"I know." She said. "I knew there had to be reasons for you being an asshole."

"I deserved that." I said, smiling. She nodded her head. She stopped smiling.

"How are they?" I knew she was implying her dad and brother.

"I haven't seen them for a while. When I left they were upset." I said, truthfully. I wasn't going to lie to her.

"You know where I am now. You better get back to your pack." She said. Her voice sounded cold. Why did her mood change all of a sudden? "I'm not your mate." She said.

"Yes you are." I said. She shook her head.

"There are a ton of other girls, Cameron. There are far better girls for you than me." I shook my head.

"You're perfect for me. You're perfect to me." I said, grabbing her hand. I felt sparks shoot through my hand. I couldn't take it anymore, I need to kiss her. I smashed my lips to hers. She kissed back. Sparks were shooting through my body. It felt like I was on fire. Our tongues danced together. She pulled away, her eyes wide.

"No, what did I do?" She kept asking herself. She slumped down against a tree. She put her head in her hands, something she did when she was panicking. I sat down to her, but didn't say anything. She was freaking out about the kiss. I need to give her space.

She looked over at me. "That shouldn't have happened." She said, tears in her eyes. What have I done? I always screw everything up.

"Why not?" I asked. It was a stupid question.

"I have a boyfriend." She answered. My heart shattered. I'd never felt pain like this. I felt like the world was ending. Was this what rejection felt like? She's supposed to be my mate. I got off the ground.

"I guess I shouldn't have came looking for you. I see you're perfectly fine here." I said coldly. I couldn't help it. The only girl I've ever loved rejected me. It caused the biggest hole in my heart. I felt numb to the world. She got up.

"I don't want to lose you again, Cameron." She said. I glared at her.

"We can't be friends, Zee, you're my mate." I said. She looked like she was going to cry, but I couldn't care less. "Go cry to your 'boyfriend'." I shot at her. Pain crossed over her face.

"Why did you even come here, Cameron? You should've known I would've moved on. It took me long enough." She shouted, pain in her voice.

"I thought that maybe just maybe you still felt the same way about me." I replied. "I can see now that you don't." I was in so much pain. "What did you feel when we were kissing? Don't lie either." I said.

"I felt like I was on fire." She said, looking at the ground. I nodded my head.

"What do you feel when you kiss him?" She looked at me. I already knew the answer. She didn't like him as much as she thought she did.

"All I feel is warmth." She answered truthfully. I got my answer.

"Don't you see that I'm your mate?" I said walking over to her. "I'll let you think things through. I'm going back to my pack." I said, leaving. She grabbed my arm. I turned around. She smashed her lips onto mine. I didn't feel pain anymore. I felt complete. I knew that I'd feel the pain once I leave.

She pulled away. "Are you going to visit?" She asked, nervously.

"I don't know." I answered. I looked into her green eyes. They weren't dull like they were when I first had run into her.

"How am I going to tell you my decision then?" She asked. I half smiled.

"I'll see you back home if it's me. If you don't show up for a couple months then I'll know you didn't choose me." I said. She nodded her head.

"Can you tell them that I'm alright?" I nodded my head.

"I know you miss home." I said, caressing her cheek.

"I'll get used to being alone soon enough." She said, sadly. I know she regrets running away.

"You can always come back." I said. She nodded her head. "Why don't you come home?" She looked tempted to.

"I don't know if you're my mate yet." She answered. Her voice gave me hope.

"It was good seeing you again, Zee. I've missed you." She nodded her head. "I guess I should get going. Goodbye, I love you." I said kissing her cheek. I knew she wasn't going to say 'I love you' back, but I wanted her to know that I love her. She will though, someday.

"Goodbye, Cameron." Zee said. I nodded my head and shifted back into a wolf.

She'll be mine someday. She doesn't love her 'boyfriend' like she loves me. She'll be home soon.
