Zee runs away from her pack when she finds out she has to marry Cameron (the Alpha of the neighboring pack.) She ends up in Oregon, where she meets two other werewolves, Jax and Landon. Will she fall for Landon or Cameron? Which one is her true mate?

10. Chapter 10: True Colors

It's been a month. I haven't left Oregon yet. Landon and I are still together. I don't really know why. I guess in a way we both need each other because we don't have the people we wanted.

I walked into Jax and Landon's cabin. Jax recently found his mate and has been spending most of his time with her.

"Landon?" I called out. He walked down the stairs and hugged me. I smiled at him, but it quickly faded. He looked like a mess. He had dark circles under his eyes. His hair was a mess. He didn't look like his self; he looked drained. "What's wrong?" I asked him. He shook his head.

"I'm fine, Zee." He said angrily. I took a step back. His phone started ringing. He answered it and walked into the downstairs bedroom. He shut the door. I walked away from the door. I noticed the basement door was open. I furrowed my eyebrows. Why was it open? I expected the light to be off but it was on. I walked down the stairs. I know I shouldn't be snooping, but I can't help it.

The basement had an eerie feeling. I noticed a couple maps with writing on them. Papers are scattered everywhere. The computer was on, revealing an email. I looked around and read it. My eyes widened. What was Landon doing with the Nightwalkers Pack? My breathing hitched. That guy that killed my mom was from the Nightwalkers Pack.

I looked more closely at the maps. They had my name on them. What the hell was this? I decided that I should go back upstairs. I looked over at a piece of paper. It was a story about the Royals of our kind. They're the rulers over us Werewolves. I stuck the piece of paper in my messenger bag and quickly ran up the steps.

Landon was still talking to someone. I bet it's one of those guys from the Nightwalkers Pack. He was working for them all along. He didn't care about me. I'm so stupid!

I grabbed a pen and a piece of paper. I wrote Landon a note saying that I had to leave because Margaret wanted to talk to me. I also stated that we were over.  It was a big lie, but what was I supposed to say? Hey, Landon I'm going back home, where you can find me and kill me. Nope not doing that.

I ran out of the house. I shifted into my wolf. I ran as fast as I could. I guess I thought that Landon would kill me. I bet he was arranging for the main guy to come and kill me. It seems like they've been tracking me for a while. Why do they want me though? Why me? Why couldn't it be somebody else?

I got back to my cabin and quickly packed my clothes and some shoes. My phone was in my messenger bag. I ran out of the house. I locked the door. I shifted and ran. I was going back to Washington. I wasn't going to stop running.

I ran in zigzags, making sure my scent was in more than one place. Hopefully that'd throw them off. The town wasn't too far from Washington. I should be there in a couple of days.

How could I believe him? He was playing me this whole time. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'm stupid. I guess you can't trust everyone you meet. What about Jax? He seemed so nice. Was he in on this too? I hope not.

I just want to be in Cameron's arms. Would he still be waiting on me or would he be with another girl? My insides twisted. I don't want him with anybody but me. I realize now that he's my mate. He always has been.

I want to be safe. Have I ever been safe? I shouldn't have left. My wolf wasn't going to stop running anytime soon. I didn't want her to. We finally agreed on something and that was to get out of here.

We'll be home soon. I said to her. Yeah, if Landon doesn't find you first. She said back. I could hear the panic in her voice. I felt the same way.

Three days later

I shifted back into my human form. I didn't stop running. If I did take a break it was short. I was almost to my pack. I was limping. I had twisted my ankle, but that didn't stop me. We heal fast, but this was just recent.

Wolves were patrolling. They turned their heads to look at me. Some of them growled. Was I really not that recognizable? One of the black ones stared at me. He trotted over to me and shifted. It was Cameron. He knew something was wrong. He noticed that my ankle was twisted. He picked me up and carried me bridal style to his house. We didn't say anything.

I could tell that he was happy to see me. I was happy to see him. He sat me down on the table that was in the kitchen. I probably looked like a mess.

"Mom, come here." He shouted. I heard footsteps and then a lady walked in. She looked just like how I remembered her. She stopped in her tracks.

"What's wrong, Cameron?" She asked.

"Zee came back, she has a broken ankle." Cameron's mom smiled. She wrapped a bandage around my ankle.

"You're going to have to stay off of it until it heals, which won't be that long." She said. I nodded my head. I could already feel it healing. "I'm glad you're back." She said and walked out of the room.

Cameron hugged me. I smiled. "I've missed you so much." He said.

"I've missed you too." I said. He pulled back.

"I'm sure your dad and brother want to see you." He said.

"I can't walk, remember?"

"I know." He picked me up. I smashed my lips to his. I couldn't help it. We both pulled away. "Do you choose me?" I nodded my head.

"Yes, I do, but I'm not getting married yet." He nodded his head. We walked across the yard. We made it to the Blue Moon Pack. Everyone who was in the yard turned their heads and looked at me. I put my face into Cameron's chest. I didn't like that they were staring at me.

I lifted my head to look for my brother. He was standing there frozen. He didn't actually think I was here. I could see it written on his face. We got close enough to Ryker.

"You can put me down now." I said to Cameron. He didn't look sure, but sat me down carefully. Ryker walked over to me.

"Zee, is that you?" I nodded my head. He hugged me. I had missed him so much. "Are you back for good?" He asked when we pulled away from the hug.

"Yeah, I am." I said. He smiled. I smiled back. "Where's dad?" I asked him.

"He left." I gave Ryker a confused look. "He said that it was very important. He'll be back sometime tomorrow." I nodded my head. "How'd you do that?" He asked pointing to my ankle.

"I tripped over a tree root." I laughed nervously. I'm clumsy sometimes.

"Still the same, Zee." He said, laughing. I rolled my eyes. I turned around. Cameron was smiling. He walked over to me and supported me. "Are you guys together?" I looked up at Cameron. He was taller than me, but not by much. He looked down at me.

I could see it in his eyes that that's what he wanted. I looked at Ryker.

"Yeah, we are." I said. Ryker smiled.

"You finally accepted it, huh?" I nodded my head. "It's good to have you back, Zee." I smiled at my brother. It truly was good to be back. Nothing had really changed except now it's fall. "I'll see you later." He said, running off.

"He found his mate while you were gone." Cameron clarified. Finally! It seemed like it had taken forever.

"That's good." I said. "I wish my dad was here I really need to talk to him about something."

"What is it?" Cameron asked. I shook my head.

"It's not important." I said. He gave me a look like, 'tell-me-now-or-else.' "I just need to ask him why that man, who killed my mom was after me. This guy that I became friends with was tracking me. He's part of the Nightwalkers Pack." I said. I felt Cameron tense. He knows something! "What do you know?"

"I think it'd be best for your dad to tell you." Cameron said. "I won't let any of them hurt you."

"You need to tell me now. I am your mate, therefore I need to know." I said, sternly. He gave me a defeated look. I had gotten through to him when I said 'mate'.

"I'm not going to tell you everything, I think that your dad needs to tell you." I nodded my head, agreeing. "The Nightwalkers Pack has been after you for a while, ever since they found out that you have a gift that others don't have. I think I've said too much. Your dad was supposed to be the one to tell you." Cameron said.

So, they were after me. That explains some things. What kind of gift do I have? Why would they want it? I guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow.

"C'mon let's go back so you can rest." Cameron said, picking me up once again. I kissed his cheek. He smiled at me. There was no doubt in my mind that I loved him. I had always loved him. I wasn't going to tell him that yet. We basically just got together.

He walked us up to his bedroom, where he laid me down. I realized how tired I was. I haven't slept for days.

"I'm tired." I said after yawing. He got in next to me. He wrapped me in his arms. I laid my head on his chest.

"Go to sleep." He said.

"Please stay." I said, closing my eyes.

"I'm not going anywhere." I heard him say before I drifted off to sleep.
