15. Chapter 14

Rose is currently sitting at her kitchen table in front of her slightly broken laptop. Her fingers are flying across the black keys as she types. She has papers spread across the table and occasionally took a glance at these papers. Rose honestly looked as if she had been sitting in the chair for at least a week. Truth be told, she really has been sitting at the table typing on her computer since Monday morning.

Rose had woken up at two in the morning the night Harry left and had woken up after a dream and found herself scrambling for a notebook. She began to feverously type on her laptop glancing at her notes as she wrote. Rose was sporting her glasses and was in her soft purple dressing gown with matching purple slippers on her feet.

She had been writing religiously over the course of the past few days. She basically was living her life by a few simple life styles: eat, breathe, and sleep writing. With her adoration for writing these past few days, she hadn't even called Harry or even thought about him. Well, that's a lie, she did think about him; he was the inspiration for the male character for her story.

A knock sounded at the front door of the flat disrupting Rose from her writing. She sighed and shuffled to the door. Rose's slippers making a sliding motion as she walked across the linoleum flooring. She unchained the door, swung it open, and saw a dishevelled looking Eleanor Tomlinson standing before her with her hair in a messy bun, Robbie crying in her arms, and Eliza holding her hand and picking her nose (lovely).

"Elle, what's the matter?" Rose asked her with a soft look.

"Can you help me? I-I am so tired and I am watching her for Perrie and Zayn and..." Eleanor spewed quickly and her words weren't making much sense since she was so tired, "Plus, I want to talk to you. I haven't seen you for a while," she said Rose nodded stepping to the side and allowing the Eleanor and the young children in the house. Well, it was mostly the booger picker, but she had stopped picking her nose.

"Miss Rose," Eliza said tugging on Rose's dressing gown, "Is there anything to watch?" she asked and Rose nodded and walked over to the TV and clicked it on turning on a Disney movie. "Thank you."

"You're very welcome, Eliza," she said and turned to Eleanor ushering her into the messy kitchen. "I'm terribly sorry about the mess, I've been working on some stuff and quite frankly, you didn't give me much of a notice to tidy the flat or myself."

"I didn't know who to go to. Danielle has her hands filled with her own children and I don't want to be around Mallory, I don't particularly like her. I mean, I have met her, but that was when she was just a fling when you and Harry broke up. I miss him being only yours," Eleanor said in a rush and began bouncing Robbie quickly in her arms.

"Eleanor, let me try. Most infants can tell when their mum's are stressed and are upset. Here," she said lifting the crying baby out of Eleanor's arms and cradling him into her own. "There, there, Robbie, no need to cry. You'll wake the neighbours, love," she said and Robbie began to quiet his cries to soft whimpers. "You're alright. Eleanor, do you happen to have a dummy?" she asked and Eleanor nodded and handed a green dummy to Rose. Rose placed it between Robbie's parted lips and he began sucking on it. Rose took a seat at the table and crossed her legs. She closed her laptop with her free hand, began to pick up her papers, and placed them neatly on her black laptop.

"I don't know how to function without Louis," Eleanor said burying her face in the palms of her hands.

"What do you mean?" Rose questioned looked at Eleanor with a worried look on her face. Eleanor let out a sigh and sat up. "He didn't leave you did he?"

"God no, Louis loves me too much. He's at the hospital with Perrie. Zayn is having surgery done so I offered to take in little Eliza and thought that she could possibly be a little angel. I just wasn't expecting Louis to be staying at the hospital with Perrie."

"Wait, what?" Rose asked looking at Eleanor with an incredulous look, "Zayn is having surgery done? What for?"

"Trying to remove cancer cells," Eleanor said and picked up a piece of paper that was underneath her arm.

"Does Harry know?"

"Yeah, Lou called him last night. From what I understand, Harry was quite upset. Poor lad, he takes the blame for everything that has happened," Eleanor said softly and looked at the paper and smiled, "Did your idea finally come to you?" she asked and Rose smiled softly and looked down at Robbie who was staring up at her.

"Yeah, I think it did," Rose said with a smile on her face, "I was up at four this morning writing," Rose said brushing some of the loose strands of hair out of her face.

"That is where I confirm that you are indeed an idiot," Eleanor said with a tired laugh. Rose smiled at her and saw Eleanor take her phone out and place it on the table and check it every few seconds.

"Eleanor," Rose said softly. Eleanor looked at Rose and saw her looking back at her with worried eyes, "Do you want to stay here? I don't mind, you could probably use some help."

"I don't want to impose. I just wanted someone to talk to," Eleanor said and Rose gave her a hard look and shook her head.

"You are more than welcome to stay in my humble abode, Eleanor. I have off tomorrow so it shouldn't be a problem," Rose said and Eleanor sighed beginning to give in.

Eleanor was sat there contemplating whether or not she should stay with Rose at her flat. She didn't want to impose on her good friend, but she also wanted someone to talk to because quite honestly, she didn't want to talk to an infant nor a four year old. She wanted to confide in someone and since she was already with Rose at her flat, she decided it would be best if she just stayed the night. Good thing she brings extra clothes wherever she goes.

"Sure," Eleanor said and Rose smiled at her. "Is he sleeping yet?"

"Yep," Rose said looking down at Robbie. He had his small hands fisted and were up by his cheeks. His little lips were pushed out and he had them parted ever so slightly.

Eleanor got up from the chair, walked over to Rose, bent over lifting the sleeping infant out of Rose's arms, cradled him in her arms, and rocked him in her arms gently. She brushed some of his hair back and just stared at the small baby.

"El, what's wrong?" Rose asked and she let out a sigh. Rose knew almost instantly that she was thinking about something that she probably wasn't wanting to think about.

"I- I don't even know," she said and Rose saw her lip begin to quiver.

"No, it's obviously something that has been bothering you. You can tell me anything," Rose said leaning over the table and touching her arm gently.

"It's just- this whole thing with Zayn and him being sick, I don't know... I guess I'm worried for the worst," she said softly and looked down at Robbie once more.

"I know exactly what you mean," Rose whispered silently glancing at Eleanor under her eyelids.

"The boys will never be the same," she said with a sigh, "It would be like losing a brother. I don't know if I could bear seeing Louis hurt like that."

"You need to be strong, Eleanor," I said softly to her, "Zayn is fighting as hard as he can just so he can watch that little girl, his little girl, grow up into a fine young woman. He's not ready to leave yet. If the time comes that he loses, those four boys and Perrie are going to need us girls. You need to be strong for Perrie and Louis. I'm going to be strong for Harry and Perrie. Perrie is going to need us more than you think. We're her family, we're never going to let her go. We're in this together," Rose said with a smile on her face.

"I don't want Zayn to go yet, he's far too talented and he's such a wonderful father to Eliza. I don't know her too well, but I do know he loves her so much. Love does wondrous things, it conquers all," Rose stated after a moment of silence.

"You stole that from Harry Potter didn't you?"

"I believe it to be true, though," Rose said and cleared her throat, "You need to understand the things people will go through to fight for that eternal love. Zayn's love for all of us is... spellbinding, I suppose. He is going to fight to make sure we don't have to suffer because of him."

Eleanor didn't say anything after that. She got up from the chair she was sitting on and walked in the back room with Robbie. Rose let out a soft sigh and decided to go check on Zayn's little girl. She saw her sitting on the floor playing with toys and talking to herself. Rose walked over to her and sat on the floor next to her.

"Hey Eliza," Rose greeted with a soft smile.

"Hi," she said without looking up at Rose.

"What are you playing with?" Rose questioned looking at the floors that lay out across the carpet.

"Dollies," she said looking up at Rose, "This one is me," she said lifting up a doll that had dark hair that resembled her own, "This is Daddy and this is Mummy!" she said holding up the dolls that had been made for One Direction and Little Mix.

"Yeah?" Rose asked and she nodded.

"Miss Rose?" Eliza asked Rose looking up at her with big eyes. "Is my Daddy going to get better?"

"Why do you ask?" Rose asked frowning at the small girl.

"Mummy is always sad and Daddy is in hospital," she said and scrunched up her nose, "He has lots of wires on him."

"He want to get better just for you!" Rose said with a smile, "Do you want to go to bed?"

"Can I sleep in your bed?" she asked Rose with pleading eyes.

"How about you sleep with me, Aunt Eleanor, and your cousin Robbie," Rose suggested lifting Eliza off the ground. Eliza nodded and wrapped her arms around Rose's body. Rose walked into her bedroom and grabbed a t-shirt that Eliza could wear to bed. She found one of her old One Direction shirts with just Zayn on it. She knew Eliza would like it. Rose walked into the bathroom and started the shower and placed Eliza on the ground and sat down on the toilet.

"Come here, love, let's get you washed up," Rose said and Eliza walked over to Rose and lifted her arms up allowing Rose to take off her shirt. She finished undressing the child and lifted her into the warm shower.

"No bath?"

"Not today," Rose said with a smile, "I don't think you brought any bath toys did you?" she asked and Eliza shook her head with a soft giggle. "Tip your head back so Miss Rose can wash it."

" 'Tay," she said and tipped it back and Rose ran her fingers through Eliza's dark hair getting it wet. She squirted some shampoo in her hand.

"Do you need a washcloth to cover your eyes?" she asked quickly.

"Yep!" Eliza said with a nod.

Rose placed a washcloth over Eliza's eyes and began putting soap in her hair massaging her head. Rose rinsed Eliza's hair and squeezed the thick hair in her hands. She took a hold of the rag on Eliza's face and wiped off the remaining soap.

"There's little miss Eliza!" Rose said with a smile on her face. "What do we need to do next to get squeaky clean?" she asked looking at Eliza with fake confusion.

"Miss Rose, we need to wash me!" she giggled hiding her little face behind her hands.

"Hmmm," Rose said pretending to ponder on the fact, "I think you must be right," she said and picked up the washcloth and put some soap on the green cloth and ran it under the warm water. She gave it to Eliza and the small child did just as she should.

"We are done!" Rose said with a smile on her face, "Let's get you dry now, love," she said lifting Eliza out of the tub and placing her on the floor. She picked up the towel from the ground and began to dry Eliza and shook her hair.

"I have no pyjamas!"

"I have a shirt you can wear," she said and picked it up. Eliza lifted her arms and Rose slid it over her small body and straightened it out on her body.

"It has Daddy!" she said with a big smile on her face, "Tank you!"

"You're very welcome, let's go to bed now," she said and Eliza went to Rose's bedroom and climbed into Rose's bed and waited for Rose to crawl in next to her.

Once Rose was in bed, Eliza cuddled up to Rose and fell asleep almost instantly. Rose looked down at Zayn's daughter and couldn't help but think that one day, this little girl could be the saddest girl in the world. She felt for both her and Perrie. She wanted nothing more than to protect everyone in the world, but she knew it wasn't possible.
