The One Who Wasn't Chosen

The propechy clearly states that the heir of Holden Din would save our world from The Jacks.

Katerina Enstire works for Cole Din, the heir of Holden Din. Katerina knows, he's supposed to save the world. But, he obviously won't. He's too selfish, too full of himself to acutally do anything. As Cole "stays oblivious" to the world that doesn't revolve around him, that world gets worse. People protest, and die within seconds. The Jacks are becoming more and more angry. But what can Katerina do? She isn't the Chosen One.

A/N: OK, so I don't know if I can keep this story up, so if I don't finish it, and if you like it, you can have it. ONLY IF I SAY IT IS OK! Thanks! Make sure you tell me what you think!

4. Chapter 4

"The Jacks came to Cole's house to talk to you?" Mason repeated in complete shock.

"Yeah. They wanted me to know that they're the 'good people' and that Cole would never do anything to hurt them. And," I quieted my tone so that no one but Mason could hear. "They asked if I helped out any poor people."

"What did you say?" Mason asked, matching my tone.

"I said I didn't. But then, one of them came in close and tried to prove me a lair. But, they're horrible at sniffing out a liar."

"Ha. That's good news for you." We sat at a rundown bar, near the borderline. Almost no one comes here, only those who are like me and Mason. They left the outside how it is, but made the inside warm and comfy. I took another sip from my tea. I put a lot of sugar in because I don't like tea.

"There is one more thing," I said, breaking the short silence.

"What? Does it have to do with The Jacks?" Mason asked.

"Yeah. When they were about to leave, one of them was talking to Cole. I only heard that they were going to come back today. But the same one was saying something else. I don't know what. But there is something.... unnatural about the whole situation. I have to talk to Cole. I'm hoping that all of this is just act for The Jacks."

"I hope it is too."

"Shizz! I have to get back home, otherwise Cole will throw a fit. Later." I got up and ran home, lingering on what I said.

I opened the door, scoping out the front hall, then Kai was in front of me. I gasped.

"So sorry, I didn't mean to frighten you," he said. All of The Jacks have this kind of sly edge to their voice, almost like they're trying to whisper. I dunno, it's hard to describe.

"It's fine," I said. I walked into the parlor and saw the rest of them and Cole.

"Nice to see you again Katerina," Alec said. Crispin gave me an odd look, like he was still trying to find the lie.

"You too."

"So, we just wanted to check on you, we'll be on our way," Beatrix said.

"Did you go to the rest?" I blurted.

"Pardon me?" Alec said.

"All of the other rich people. Did you visit them, too?"

"Yes, we did," Adelina said quickly. Too quickly.

"Good day," Crispin said. When they left, I turned to Cole.

"Cole," I said.

"Are you on their side?" I asked, I had to know.

"No, of course not. I just have to pretend. It keeps us safe," he said. He sounded almost fatherly like. I believe him, he sounded sincere. I'm good at telling if someone is lying and he is definatly not lying.

A/N: OMG! I love how this story is coming together and I hope you do too! I really want to get this story around cos I'm proud of it. So if you coule be VERY SUBTLE about promoting it, that would be awesome sauce. I sound desprate, and frankly, I am! Haha, I'm sad. THANKS FOR READING! ^-^
