12. Lea's Midnight Adventure

"You know very well, Remus," Severus growled at him.

"No, I really don't. Actually, I have been looking for you, I had to send Lea to the Hospital Wing. I take it you found out and that's why your here," Lupin told him point blank.

"YOU'RE THE ONE-," started Severus.

"Enough," Dumbledore yelled. He rarely raised his voice, but when he did, you had better listen. "We will start with you, Remus, what happened to Lea that she needed to go to the Hospital Wing?"

Lupin, still a bit perplexed, told him. "Lea came into my office to continue her detention. She was getting me my potion from Severus when something happened.

"I don't know what, she wouldn't tell me, but Lea came into the office soaking wet. Her skin was looking red and her eyes were turning yellow.

"Under her hair, was the goblet that she had been carrying the potion in. It was only about an inch full and more potion was dripping off of her hair.

"Lea apologized and when I asked what happen she said nothing. After that, I sent her to the Hospital Wing.

"I finished grading a paper and walked down to your office," Lupin said turning to Severus. "I was looking for you, but I couldn't find you so I came up here to see how Lea was doing."

Dumbledore recognized that there were many similarities to the story. And what Draco had said was true, Lupin had indeed sent Lea to the Hospital Wing.

Draco's accusations should not be taken lightly, but Lupin was a trusted friend. He needed to hear what Lea had to say before he could make a decision.

"I can't decide anything without all the facts, Severus. I will need to speak to Miss Talbot as soon as she wakes up," Dumbledore told Madame Pomfrey.

"Of course," she said right before she slipped back into the Wing, shutting it quickly and quietly behind her.

"Each of you need to go back to your offices, do not move. I will contact you when Miss Talbot has woken up. Mr. Malfoy, please go back to your House and don't tell anyone what's happened. This will be settled later," Dumbledore told them before either of the Professors could object.

Meanwhile, Lea slept on the other side of the huge, wooden door. She woke up around midnight the next morning. After a minute of trying to open her eyes, she lifted her hand.

Lea's fingers felt something caked on to her eyelids. That's when she remembered the crimson potion. She was tired and soon dropped off to sleep.

Unlike previously, Lea dreamed. She dreamed of someone else's memory. Lea had not taken to Occlumency since she had been in the Hospital Wing, so this was not unexpected.

Lea drifted for Harry, being locked in his cupboard when he was five for saying magic, to Severus, calling Lily Evens a mudblood. Surprising to her, she also went into McGonagall's memory. She was looking over her shoulder at a small bundle of blankets on a door step.

The most surprising thing about this was not only that she went in and out of their memories, but also, in one student she chose to stay. Subconsciously, Lea walked through Draco's life.

What she saw disturbed her. The first solid memory the boy had was of crying silently in his room as a house elf called Dobby tried to get him to stop. Draco was only about three, and yet he was sore all over and had large bruises around his neck and wrists.

"Daddy doesn't like me," Draco cried. "Why?"

"Is Master Draco alright," Dobby asked.

Lea watched the memory and then spend through. It was the day Draco got his Hogwarts acceptance letter. His mother, Narcissa, was thrilled and bought him his new broom. His father, Lucius, came up to him after his wife left.

"You had better get into Slytherin, Draco. It would not be wise to shame your family," Lucius said. That was the night that Draco no longer got mysterious bruises.

Lea woke with a start the next morning, stomach aching with hunger. She sat up and tried to open her eyes again. The dried potion had cracked during the night so she was able to able to open her eyes with some difficulty.

Madame Pomfrey came over as soon as Lea sat up. "How are you feeling Miss Talbot," she asked as she flicked her wand. A long wisp of silver smoke appeared and raced out the door and split three ways.

"Here," Madame Pomfrey said handing Lea a warm damp rag. "Wipe off as much as you can. Then take a shower. You don't need soap, warm water will be fine." She handed Lea a pair of her robes and pointed Lea towards a small door in the back of the Wing.

Lea washed and dried herself. When she got out Severus, Draco (who was brought by Severus), Lupin and Dumbledore were sitting on stools next to her cot.

"It's time to tell us what happened, Miss Talbot," Dumbledore said calmly.
