Chapter 3-

Rylie's P.O.V.

"Am I going to die?" I asked not thinking what I just said. He looked at me and took a deep breath. I saw it in his eyes he felt sorry for me.

"...I have no clue, Rylie. But don't think that way. I won't let that happen." He said. I looked out the window again and didn't realize the tears started to spill out of my eyes. He parked in my driveway and I gave him a confused look.

"How do-"

"I told you." He said. Right...he was watching me...

"Hurry. I'll be the look out." I nodded and ran inside. I saw my mom in the kitchen with tea. He was staring in it. I slowly walked up to her.

"Mom..." I whispered. She looked up and stood up and gave me a hug. I knew she had tears in her eyes.

"He was here..." She said making me step back.

"Who?" I asked sudden.

"Mom, who was here?" I asked a little louder. She looked up at me.

"Your father." Suddenly the whole world stopped and my breath hitched.

"W-What did he want?" I asked slowly.

"He asked where you were." She said hugging herself.

"Mom...what did you tell him?!" I asked, stepping closer.

"That you weren't here and I don't know where you went." She said, tears falling from her blood shot eyes.

"Mom," I said. I didn't know what to say. I can't leave her here.

"Do me a big favor." I said. She looked at me.

"Go to Grandma's." I said. She gave me a confused look.

"Don't ask questions. I'll tell you everything when I know it's safe. Go upstairs and pack. I said grabbing her hand and dragging her upstairs. I pushed her into her room and threw clothes on her bed. She got two suitcases.

"Start. Im going to pack." I said. She nodded. I walked into my room and grabbed the biggest bag I had. It was big, too. I threw clothes in it. All different kinds. Shorts, pants, sweatpants, shirts, tank tops, anything. I already had my toothbrush at the hotel, but I packed another one just in case. After I was done,I walked into my moms room seeing her looking at something. I walked closer and it was her wedding ring. My breath hitched again.

"Get rid of it." She whispered, handing it to me. I was confused.

"Sell it. Get the money you need. I don't care. I never want to see it again. She said raising her voice. I nodded and put it in my pocket.

"Call Grandma." I said.

"I already did. She said I could stay with her." She said. Then I heard a honk. We looked at each other.

"Let's go." I said getting my bag, she got her suitcases and we raced downstairs, and down the drive way. I threw out bags in the truck and we jumped into the car.

"Rylie!" Zayn yelled.

"Just drop her off somewhere! 110 Harvard Road. " I yelled. He glanced at my mom.

"Mom, this is Zayn. Zayn, this is mom." I said.

"Call me Amanda." She said to Zayn. He nodded then took off down the street.

Zayn pulled up to my grandmothers house. I turned to him.

"Give me 5 minutes." I said to him. He nodded and me and my mom jumped out of the car. We got her bags then walked up to the door. We didn't get time to knock when the door swung open, reliving a happy grandmother.

"Grandma!" I yelled acting like a child again. She loves it.

"Look how big you got! I remember you were 4! And that was yesterday!" She said hugging me.

"Thanks ma." I said. She turned to my mom.

"Mandy! You look younger!" She said causing me to giggle.

"Hi mom." My mom said as they hugged.

"Come in! Have a cup a coffee. We have a lot of catching up to do!" Grandma said. I smiled.

"Actually, I have a friend waiting..." I said. He face lit up.

"Well, invite her in!" She said waving at the car. I tuned around.

"Me and 'him' are actually going somewhere..." I said to her.

"Ohh... A date? That's so cute! I love young love!" She said. I shook my head laughing.

"Sure! I have to go." I said to her. I turned to my mother an have her a big hug.

"Be safe. Don't worry about me. I'll call you every now and then. I love you." I said in her ear.

"I love you too." She said, her voice cracking.

"Bye ma!" I said to my grandmother.

"Bye honey! Call me sometime! We'll have a girls night out!" She said as I hugged her. I nodded and smiled as I walked back to the car. I waved goodbye as I jumped into the car. I turned to Zayn.

"They think we're dating." I said laughing. He smiled.

"Let's go! Stop staring!" I said as he started the car. I saw them go inside as we drove away. I hate saying goodbye.

"Everything alright?" Zayn asked. I nodded.

"I just hate saying goodbye...you never know when your going to see them again." I whispered, whipping a tear.

"You all are going to be okay, Rylie." He assured me.

"Then tell me why Phill came by my house looking for me..." I said not looking at me. He swerved the car.

"What?!" He yelled.

"Ya. That's what my mother said." I said. He gripped the steering wheel.

"Zayn...it's okay. My mom didn't say anything. All she said was she didn't know where I was at." I assured him. He relaxed. We drove to the hotel in silence.

Once we got there, I grabbed my bag and we walked to the elevator. We waited on silence before it opened. We got in and waited in more silence.

"What if they find us?" I asked, looking at him.

"We run." He said serious. But that scared me. Finally, it opened and we stepped out, walking down the hall towards our door. He put the key in and opened it. We walked in. I placed my bag on the table next to Zayn's and turned to him.

"Now what?" I asked. He shrugged.

"Hold on." He said going in his pocket, grabbing a phone. What? He can have a phone but I can't?

"Really?!" I asked throwing my hands in the air.

"It's not mine. It's my friends. It's a special phone people can't track. You can't make calls but you can text. It also tells me where there at." He said. I nodded, waiting for him to do what he was doing. All of a sudden, he started throwing things in his bag.

"We have to leave...now!" He said. He gabbed my bag and my hand and dragged me out of the room. We got into the elevator and waited until it opened. When it did, I wish it hadn't. He started pressing the button multiple time. I prayed they wouldn't see us. As the doors closed, I felt Phill's cold eyes on mine. I knew he saw me. I turned to Zayn.

"Holy shit! What are we going to do know?!" I asked him. He stayed quiet. Then he turned to look at me.

"When we get up there, follow and do excatly what I say..." He said. I could see the sweat beads dripping off his forehead. I nodded scared of what he had in mind. When the doors opened, I saw Znayn press all the buttons so it woul take longer for it to get to the loby. We ran out and I saw him run towards the stair case. He tried locking it, but there no way to without a key.

"Shit! um...okay, okay. Come'on!" He said grabbing me hand and pulling me into our room again. He walked to your balcony and looked down. I followed and saw 2 black vans parks a little down the street. There were 3or 4 men stadning next to the enterence which was to the far left of us.

"Okay. Your going have to do something you dont want to do..." He said to me. I knew I wouldnt like it from the way he said it...adn his facial expression. He dropped his bag and oepened it, grabbing a rope that was tide up together. Oh hell no!

"I am not going down there!" I protested. He tied it to the balcony and pulled it so wouldnt fall.

"It's either that...or die." He said with a stern voice. I huffed. There is a chance I could die going down the rope. I saw him throw it so it fell 12 storys.

"Come here, Rylie! We dont have time for this!" He said. Then we heard banging on the door. My breath hitched for the 3rd time today.

"I'm not going withouut you!" I screamed at him, tears falling again.

"I'll be right behing you. I promise! Now hurry!" I hesitated but walked to him, whipping the tears away as the banging got louder.

"Just think of it like rock climbing. I know you went with James before." He siad. I looked at him disguested. James was my ex-boyfriend. We went rock climbing about a year ago before we ended it. Zayn tired the rope around me and then around the rope that hung. He did it to himself. Then he helped me over the ledge.

"Slolwy and carefully, Rylie. Once you get to the botton, hid and wait in the bush for me. Got it?" He said. I nodded as tears started to spill. He slolwy helped me go down untill he couldnt reach me anymore. I saw him throw our bags so it hit the ground. He followed me and we slid down together, Once my feet could touch the ground again, I quickly untied the rope and jumped into the bush just like Zayn told me to do. Once Zayn got onto the ground, he grabbed the bags and jumped into the bush, next to me. He was out of breath, as well as I was.

"Get...ready...to...run..." He said in between deep breaths. I just nodded, not finding any words to say. Once we caught our breath, he looked at me.

"The car is over there-" he pointed the opposite direction of the entrance. I turned my head to where he pointed.

"When I say run, follow me. Stay down. Don't look anywhere but your destination. Got it?" He asked as I looked in his big brown eyes. I nodded.

"Ready?" He asked.

"Ready." I said taking a deep breath.

"Run." He breathed out before jumping out the bush. We surprisingly waited for me to get out of the bush before we started running. We kept down and low I between cars. I saw Zayn look over occasionally, looking at the men. I saw his breath hitch when he looked at him.

"Faster!" He said. The car was about 10 feet away from us. Zayn starred at the men. I couldn't help but notice his gaze moving closer to us. He didn't blink once.

"Zayn?" I asked quietly. He didn't look at me though. His gaze facing away from me. Finally, he looked at me.

"Now!" He said. He ran towards the car and I followed closely behind him. Once we reached the car, we jumped in and he grabbed two hoodies out of his bag. Them he threw our bags in the back.

"Put these on. Fast!" He ordered me. I quickly out I on and out my hood up. He started the car and started to take off. I couldn't help but hear a loud screaming noise.

"I found them! There getting away!" Someone screamed. I looked back, but Zayn stopped me.

"Don't look back!" He screamed at me. I faced forwards to where were going. I put on my seatbelt noticing how fast Zayn was going. I was scared to say something.

"Zayn...slow down." I said without thinking. He didn't do anything. Just kept gaining speed. I gripped the armrest.

"Zayn..." I sang. He still didn't do anything. His face scared me. His eyebrows were scrunched together as his mouth was in the straightest line. His hair was a total mess and I've noticed how his knuckles turned red as he gripped the steering wheel.

"ZAYN!" I screamed his name scared out of my mind. His foot jerked off the gas as he looked at me. I let out deep breaths. He didn't say anything. Just kept glancing at me, giving these weird looks. I tried not to pay attention to them, though.

"Where are we going?" I asked. He didn't glance at me.

"I have no idea." He said. I gulped.

"Maybe out of the state?" He asked. Out of California?

"What?" I asked.

"I don't know yet, Rylie!" He snapped at me. I huffed as I dropped it and leaned against the door, looking out the window. I stayed like that for about an hour doing nothing. I finally moved. I leaned back to grab my bag. Zayn didn't say anything, not look at me. I kept going. I unzipped my bag and grabbed my iPod and earbuds.

"Am I aloud to have this?" I asked him. He rolled his eyes as I out my earbuds in each of my ears. I scrolled through my music until I clicked on Ed Sheeran. I went through his + album until I saw 'This'. I didn't hesitate to click it and let the music fill all my surroundings with his beautiful voice.

"This is start of something beautiful

This is the start of something new." I started to relax again as I turned the volume up to blasting. My hears ached, but I didn't feel anything. I stared out the window thinking about my life and how it got so complicated in the last year. What Phill did to me. How my mom found out. My parents break-up. My best friend being hit by a car. I stopped listing things and thought back to that night. I held back my tears. It was the week after my parents break-up and my break up with Chad and she took me out to get my mind off of things.

"Come on, Rylie! You can't be stuck on your ass with your knees snugged to your chest, looking out your window and listening to Taylor Swift. Get out! Get some fresh air." Kelly said. As he grabbed my hand and tired pulling me off my window seat. I groaned as I stood up.

"Woah girl. Brush. Teeth. Now." She demanded. I rolled my eyes as I brushed my teeth. I walked back out and sat stood with her hands on her hips at my closet.

"You need to wear something casual, but sexy." She said causing me to giggle. The was the first time I laughed since my parents breakup and since Chad broke my heart into pieces.

"Oh! This...when did you get this?!" She asked pulling out leather pants and a white tank top that had a black jean jacket attached to it.

"A while ago. I thought I could wear it when I go on a date with C-"

"We made a vow to not saying his name again. Remember?" She said stopping me from saying his name. I lightly smiled and nodded. She threw the outfit on my bed and looked for shoes to wear. I knew what she was thinking.

"These!" She yelled/gasp as she grabbed my combat boots with studs on them.

"Get changed and meet me in the downstairs." She said. I nodded. It was about 8 something, so it was getting dark. I quickly threw on the outfit and the shoes and didn't look in the mirror. I brushed my hair out and grabbed my phone, walking downstairs.

"You...look...HOT!" Kelly said causing me to smile. I walked down the steps trying my to slip and fall.

"Let's go!" She said as we walked out the door. Once we started walking, I turned to her.

"Go where?" I asked realizing I have no clue where we were going." She smirked at me.

"It's a surprise." She said winking. I rolled my eyes as we walked in silence. She huffed and grabbed headphones from her bag. She plugged it into her phone and have me a bud. We out it in our ear and she started blasted Jessie J. She started singing out loud and dancing as we walked further down the street. People were staring and laughing as I joined along. Once in my life, I felt like nothing mattered. It felt great. Like people judging me wouldn't bring me down. I never had that feeling...and it felt great. I quickly turned the corner not thinking and all I heard was a scream before I blanked out.

•Flashback over•

A tear ran down my face. I need to stop thinking about her.

"You are the one that makes me loose it all

You are the start of something new." I turned to Zayn. He was the start of something new. Maybe even better.

"Oh and ill throw it all away

Watch you fall into my arms again

And I'll throw it all away

What you fall down" I swallowed the lump that was forming in my throat as he glanced at me. I brought my gaze out the window quickly so he wouldn't see me cry.

"You are the earth, that I will stand upon.

You are the words that I will sing.

Hmm, and I thrown it all away

Watched you fall, into his arms again

And I thrown it all away, and watched you fall down, oh

Take me back, take me home

Watch me fall, down to earth.

Take me back, for her." If only God could take me back to the last night I saw Kelly. I shook my head lightly. I was getting a headache.

"This is the start if something beautiful

You are the start of something new..." The song ended as I lasted back into my seat. I couldn't hold back the tears. One fell on he cheek that was facing away from Zayn. I thanked to God he didn't see it. I sniffed and his gaze meet mine.

"Sorry." I whispered as I whipped the tear away.

"You okay?" He asked sweetly. I nodded, then shook my head as the tears started to spill. I couldn't do this. I needed to get away. Zayn quickly parked the car and looked around before grabbing me into his arms, pulling me into his lap. My face almost immediately hid into his chest as I sniffed and cried harder.

"What's wrong babe?" He asked quickly into my ear as his smooth hand gently glided on my back into a smoothing state.

"I'll be fine." I said urgently. I knew I wasn't. I knew I was going to die.

"Your crying. Tell me. Please?" He pleaded. I didn't look at him as I clenched onto his black shirt he was wearing.

"Kelly." Was all I managed to say before my voice cracked. I felt his lips make contact to my forehead, then my temple as he pulled me tighter to his chest. When his lips made contact, it was a weird feeling. That feeling you get when you run with a baseball glove on you hand. Only through out my whole body. I pushed it to the back of my head, forgetting it ever happened.

"Everything is going to be okay." He whispered. I nodded as a single tear escaped my eye. We stayed like that for 5-10 minutes.

"I miss her so much." I whispered. He nodded like he knew what I felt. He didn't. He had no clue what I went through all on that one month.

"I know baby. I know." He whispered. I say up and slid off his lap and plopped back into my seat.

"Is everything really going to be okay?" I asked. He looked at me with his eyes as they sparkled. He was very beautiful.

"Everything is going to be okay. Maybe not today, but eventually." He said. I thought about it. He was right. Eventually everything will be okay. I just need to take a deep breath.

"Ready? We are almost in Nevada." He said. I looked at him.

"Nevada?" I questioned. He nodded, smiling at me. I liked his smile. He has on of them smiles where his tongue is at the tip of his tooth, but you can see it. That's beautiful.

"I-" I isn't know what to say. I have never been out of California.

"I know." He said. I didn't have to say it because he knew what I was about to say. We rode a for about a half an hour before Zayn parked the car at the sign that said 'Welcome To Nevada'. He got out and I wasn't sure I should follow or not. He walked around and opened the door for me. I smiled. Nobody has ever done that besides my parents when I was I'm a car seat. He grabbed my hand and helped me out. Once I was out, he intwined his hand with mine as we walked to the sign. I stared at out hands the whole time.

"Are you ready?" He asked. I gave him a confused look.

"For what?" I asked.

"To be free."
