I do One Direction, 5 seconds of summer

15. Luke and Rylie (Part 2)

"What's wrong?" Rylie asked her dad as she closed the bus door.

"Listen, I know you're trying to get over Liam, but throwing yourself at the singer of their opening act isn't smart." Paul said seriously.

"Excuse me?" Rylie hissed. "I'm over Liam, first of all, and second, I haven't 'thrown' myself at anybody. Luke's sweet, and he asked me out, and I'm going."

"Not while I'm alive."

"That can be changed..."

"Rylie Ann Higgins, Luke's a player. He goes through girls like water. And it will end badly for you."

"Dad! Why can't you be happy for me! I'm going, and I'm 18 so I guess you can't tell me what to do anymore. I'm a legal adult. I make my own decisions." Rylie argued back.

"I don't care if you were 50, and I had one foot in the grave. You listen to me or you will be punished." Paul said sternly, using his serious father voice.

Rylie walked away, with a high middle finger in the air.

The little room in the cramped bathroom on the bus offered no help in Rylie's quest to get ready. She tried to ignore her dad's anger.

He was just being an overprotective dad, still trying to keep boys out of her life, but it's not like she hadn't experienced everything there was to experience with Liam. He was fine with that, but why not Luke? He just needed to get to know him better. Rylie felt things with Luke she hadn't felt with Liam. Or had she? It had been a long time since they broke up, she couldn't remember. But she did know now how much of a dick he was.

"Are you ready?" Luke asked, knocking on the door.

As ready as I'll ever be.

"Yea..." Rylie opened the door, and smiled at Luke.

"You look...wow...uhh, I'm speechless!" Luke bit his lip ring.

"Is that a good thing?" Rylie asked nervously. She tried to dress as casually as possible.

"Uhh, yea! I'm incredibly turned on right now, I need to look away." Luke turned around, and Rylie shoved him playfully.

"Bye guys..." Rylie waved to Niall, Michael, and Liam sitting on the bus couch, playing fifa.

"Be safe. You know what I mean, Luke..." Niall winked.

Luke rolled his eyes, awkwardly looking at Rylie.

What was that about?

"Bye Riles..." Liam winked.

"Shut up Liam. Doesn't this look familiar to you?" Rylie raised her brows, and grabbed Luke's hand, intertwining their fingers.

Liam looked away.

"C'mon, Rylie..." Luke said, and he dragged her off the bus, and they stepped right into a car.

"What was that about?" Luke said, almost angrily.

"That...was nothing."

"Well I already know you and Liam had a thing. I watched TV. I watched E! News. I read magazines. Your faces were plastered on them half the time."

"Then what's the problem?" Rylie asked, obviously.

"I asked you out because I knew you and Liam were over and done with. Why are you still trying to make him jealous? Is that the only reason you said yes? To make a point?" Luke looked at Rylie like a hungry, rabid dog, and Rylie was his prey.

Rylie hunched back in her seat, a little afraid. "No...I'm long over Liam! When I first saw you, my heart literally stopped. Liam never did that. He just...has...will always have a piece of my heart that I will never get back, and I hate him for it...I just want to start over, and he won't let me! His hands keep pulling me away from wanting to move on, and by me grabbing your hand, I...I wanted it to get to him...I'm sorry. I'm being a obnoxious ex."

Luke's face softened. "I'm sorry too. I looked too far into it. I guess you could say I'm being a potential jealous boyfriend..." Luke winked.

"Shut up." Rylie smiled. "So where are you taking me?"

"We're gonna grab some burgers, then go see a movie. Sound good?"

"Oh thank goodness. I thought you would go all out and book like a fancy restaurant or something! Yuk. Liam always did that!"

"Ok, let's not make a bunch of Liam references, okay?" Luke said.

They both burst into laughter.

"Dat Tfios reference tho!"

After 2 burgers, some fries, and a milkshake, Rylie sat back in her seat. "That's not gonna digest well!"

Luke looked stunned. "I have never seen a woman eat so much on a first date...I love it!"

Rylie blushed.

"Are you ready for the check?" a waiter asked.

"Yea, I think..."

Luke got out his wallet to pay but Rylie grabbed his wrist. "We are splitting it and I don't care what you say..." Rylie threw some money on the table.

"Fine...thanks for blowing my chance of being a gentleman." Luke sighed.

"Don't worry, you'll get plenty of other chances..."

Luke blushed. "So that means?"

"Nothing yet..." Rylie smirked.

Luke and Rylie got up, and headed towards the door.

"Luke?" someone called.

Luke turned around, and Rylie watched a pretty red head walk towards them.

"Is it really Luke Hemmings? Why, I never thought I'd see you again!"

Her Australian accent signaled to Rylie they go way back. Uh-oh.

"Thea, uh, what are you doing in America?" Luke asked nervously.

"I told you I was going to ULA when we were-"

"Oh yea..." Luke stopped her quickly, and looked at Rylie.

So did Thea. "Oh, who's this?"

"My date..."

"Nice to meet you..." Rylie lied, shaking Thea's hand.

"Wow, Luke, you moved on fast! Mhmm, this is awkward." Thea smiled.

"Well, Thea, we got to get going." Luke pushed Rylie out the door before Thea could even say another word.

They walked to the parking lot in silence, Luke chewing on his lips. Finally, he said. "I guess we all have someone pulling us back into the past."

"Yea, what was that about?" Rylie wanted answers.
