14. The Hospital

Abby's POV

Next thing I knew I was laying in a bed, I assumed a hospital bed, with the boys, Dana, and a man, that I assumed was the doctor, standing over me. "Why are you all crowding me? Do you want me to breath or not?" At that everyone but Calum, Luke, and the doctor back away. "Thank you."

"We are going to have to remove the dart now... Could you all leave the room?" the doctor said while looking at me sympathetically. I knew this was going to hurt because of his look.

"Can Calum stay?" I don't know what possessed me to say it, but I genuinely wanted him here.

"Er... I guess so... But it's at his own risk." He answered. Calum just nodded and sat down next to me.

Calum's POV

I was honestly surprised when she asked if I could stay instead of Luke, but I wasn't going to object. The doctor said I could stay at my own risk although I'm not sure what 'risk' he's talking about. I sat down because I wasn't going to leave Abby to do this alone.

"We are going to try to just pull out the dart because we are not sure how far it is actually lodged," spoke the doctor.

How do they not know how far it's lodged?! I just kept my mouth shut because I wanted this to be over with. I didn't want Abby to have the pain of a dart in her foot.

The doctor started disinfecting the area around the dart. The he put some kind of cream on the same area. "Are you ready?..." He asked Abby with sympathy in his voice. Abby only nodded and to my surprise she grabbed my hand... Tightly.

Abby squeezed her eyes shut still gripping my hand with a lot of force while I was watching the doctor closely. The doctor then took a hold of the dart and pulled. The dart came out; so did a piercing scream from Abby. Blood started rushing out from her foot.

The amount of blood actually scared me. I watched as the doctor raced around the room getting cotton swabs and gauze. He started cleaning up the blood and eventually it stopped seeping out. Abby was still in pain though. I could tell because of how tight she was holding my hand. I leaned over and whispered while running my thumb over the back of her hand, "you're going to be alright; I promise."

At that she calmed down a little.

Finally the doctor had done everything he needed to and her foot was covered in gauze and a thin cast. "You're foot should be fully healed within the next month. But until then I advise you to keep this cast on. The dart scraped the bone so the bone did get some damage. That's why you have to wear this cast. It is water proof, so you can shower and swim with it on. Other than that, you are free to go whenever you like," the doctor informed us.

After the doctor left the room Abby tried to stand up. She ended up falling, but caught herself before her face hit the ground. "Here let me carry you," I said while picking her up bridal style.

"Thank you," she whispered as a small smile crept onto her lips.

"Anything for you." At that I kissed her forehead. I hope she doesn't mind... I carried her out of the room and Luke rushed over to us. He kept asking if she was okay and she just kept reassuring him that she was fine. I was a bit jealous.

"We should get you home," I stated trying to get her away from Luke.

"Here let me take her." No way in hell was I going to just hand her over. Luke may be her best friend but I love her and I refuse to give her up.

"I got her," I stated, probably with a bit of frustration showing in my voice. I then proceeded to carry her to my car and sit her down in the passenger's seat.

On the way back to Abby's house she spoke up. "What was that back there? I mean, why did you snap at Luke? He just wanted to help."

I wanted to ignore the question but I knew she would just keep asking. "I just... I didn't want you riding in the same car as Boston will most likely be in...." I lied through my teeth.

Abby's POV

I knew he was lying. I also knew why he didn't want to hand me over to Luke. And to be honest, it kind of makes me happy... Is that weird? First I ask if Calum could stay instead of Luke, then I actually like the fact that he's being protective over me...

I think I might be falling for this boy.
