20. Day 20

Harry sat up stretching out across the bed. The empty space where Kaya was laying earlier that morning felt strange with her absence.

"Kaya?" he mumbled sitting up looking around the room.

There were soft whispers in the hallway but nothing was making sense. It all sounded like gibberish to Harry as he climbed out of the bed.

Harry stretched his arms high over his head causing his back to crack, loudly. Slowly he walked into the hallway, using extreme caution because he didn't want to set off the Phoebe bomb.

"Good morning Harry," Lucy's soft voice called from the top of the stairs.

"Morning," Harry glanced around to make sure none of the other roommates were nearby. "Have you seen Kaya?"

"She went for a walk," Lucy said taking a sip of her coffee. "I told her it was raining but she insisted on going anyway."

Harry noting Lucy's shifty eyes. Then Harry realized Lucy's room was on the other side of the house.

"Lucy? What are you doing over here?" Harry asking, sounding confused.

"Um," Lucy avoided eye contact.

Harry stood there, forgetting about Kaya for a moment, still expecting an answer.

"Babe?" Jayden called stepping out into the hallway. "Oh, um. Hey Harry."

"Oh, oh!" Harry nodded, smiled before leaving the two of them alone.

Lucy and Jayden had been pretty discrete about their relationship but it seemed it had been flaring.

"Wait," Harry called as Lucy and Jayden were making their way back to Jayden's room.

"Yeah mate?" Jayden asked.

"Where did Kaya go walking?" Harry mumbled a little, scared that someone would overhear this conversation.

"I just know she went walking," Lucy smiled hoping to ease the awkward tension.

"Go talk to Jake though mate. Pretty shady what you did," Jayden said easing his fingers in between Lucy's.

Before Harry could ask exactly what Jayden meant the pair of them had disappeared into the room. Harry shook his head before traveling down the stairs, hoping Kaya wasn't outside in the rain.

As he entered the empty living room he could hear a little conversation coming from the next room over. Stopping, listening, and slowly making out the bits and pieces of it all.

"It's not that I'm mad," the first voice said.

"You sure are acting like it," another male voice said. Harry recognized it to be George.

"I'm not. Well, yeah a little," Harry noted this voice to be Jake.

"Don't be mad at Kaya though. Go out there and talk to her."

"I can't. I feel so stupid because I didn't tell her how I feel."

"Jake," George took a deep breathe. "I sound like a cheesy motivational speaker right now but you need to hear it. Go for it! Right now! Get your lazy bum out there and tell her exactly how you feel! She'll either accept it or reject it but you did it!"

"Yeah! Man, you are so right! Thanks!"

Within seconds Harry heard the back door to the house slam. Standing there, confused and worried about what he just overheard George came out the door to the room nearly knocking him over.

"Oh, sorry mate," George said steadying Harry.

"What was that about?" Harry pointed toward the room George had just left.

“What you mean?” George asked. “I was just giving a little advice to Jake.”

“About what?”

“About Kaya,” George answered like it was no big deal. “What is the big deal?”

“You know how I feel about Kaya!”

“Yeah, but he feels for her too mate. She is going to have to decide. She did pick you last night, maybe she’ll pick you again.”

“And if she doesn’t?”
“Then it wasn’t meant to be. Harry, it won’t be the end of the world.”

“She’s not like other girls George. She’s,” Harry stopped, thinking of the perfect word to use. “She is perfect.”

“Nobody is perfect though Harry,” George put his hand on his shoulder to let him know he was there for him, no matter what. They had become like brothers since being put into this house.

Kaya sat under the tiny umbrella located beside the pool, smoking her emotions away. She sat there remembering how she use to play a character who acted so similar to this. She swore that the character would never be her real life.

Quickly she wiped away a tear that was forming in her eyes. Taking a slow drag off of the cigarette she noticed that someone was walking up to her.

“Kaya?” Jake walking slowly, but with purpose.

“Yes?” Kaya said pulling another drag off her cigarette.

“Can we talk?”
“Well, you are already here.”

“Have you been crying?” Jake noted her puffy eyes and the black, runny stains going down her face.

“No. I always look like this,” Kaya said shaking a little from the chill that was creeping up her spine.

The cold rain was still steadily beating down around them. Jake saw that Kaya was drenched, shaking from the cold.

“Let’s go inside, you need to get warm.”

“I’m fine right here Jake,” Kaya said through chatty teeth.

“Kaya, c’mon,” Jake said feeling the cold even though he hadn’t been outside too long.

“No,” she protested as she took the final drag off the burning out cigarette.

“Fine,” Jake said walking over to her.

“What are you doing?” Kaya screamed at him just as he hoisted her above his head and over top his shoulders. “Jake, put me down!”

“No, you need to go inside,” Jake huffed as he began walking through the rain back up to the house.

“Just put me down I can walk!”

“Well you should have thought of that first.”

Kaya gave up complaining because Jake didn’t seem to be giving into her demands right now. Jake continued to carry her up the stairs, almost dropping her as he opened the door. Kaya shrieked as the warmth of the house covered her body.

Jake walked through the house until he reached the bathroom. Jake set Kaya down on the commode while he started the shower.

“Why are you being nice? I ignored the fact you were so sweet. And nice. And you care,” Kaya said looking down at the ground.

“It’s fine. I’m not going to let you get sick over this though,” Jake said shutting the shower door. “Now take a warm shower and then we can talk.”

“Wait,” Kaya said grabbing his hand. “I’m sorry Jake.”

“You have nothing to be sorry for. Now get warm so you don’t get sick."

Kaya nodded as Jake turned around to leave.

Now a million thoughts were running through her mind about both of the boys. Jake was sweet but acted shy. Harry was more outgoing and could make an impact. There was a lot she had to think about. This was going to be a really long shower.
