Summer Love

Three best friends, Lauren, Maria and Grace, had been planning the trip to celebrate the end of their 'A' levels since they were twelve. Now, their exams are over and they're getting ready to tour the UK and Northern Ireland. As is just their luck, disaster strikes on day two. What happens when the girls get too involved with One Direction to leave again without heartbreak?

20. Leaving

After Lou had finished poking and prodding our hair, the boys were all very excited. By ‘the boys’ I mean Liam, Harry and Niall. Lou kept mentioning how the girls’ dresses were beautiful and how they all looked gorgeous, which made us all very eager to see them. Usually we would go as a group to premieres and such, but since the girls had all been seen with us, Simon felt it was appropriate to erase all rumours and make a formal appearance with them, clarifying that we were ‘with’ them and they weren't stalking us. We left the buzzing room to go and collect the girls from upstairs. Louis, Liam and I took the stairs and Niall and Harry took the elevator, and we had a race to see who could reach the top floor first. We won. As we walked towards what was supposed to be our hotel room, the music from our album drifted from under the door, making us all smile. Niall reached the room first, and smiled back at us, recognising the song as ‘Heart Attack’. The song was just coming to the chorus as Niall flung the door open.

We were just getting ready to leave the room, checking our appearances in the mirror and fixing and stray hairs that had somehow gotten out of the hold of Lou’s strong hairspray. Our favourite One Direction song was on, and it was coming to the part that Loz always sang because it was Niall’s

“I’m tryin’a be ok,

I’m tryin’a be alright.

But seeing you with him,

Just don’t feel right” we all looked at Loz and grinned, knowing the enthusiasm she put into her solo.

“And I’m like, OW!” she screamed, just as Niall burst into the room, saying the words in unison with the shocked little blonde beside me. I jumped and Maria’s eyes widened in fear before she regained her composure. Niall and the other boys walked into the room, laughing at Lauren’s reaction. They hadn’t once made eye contact with us, probably because of the deadly stares we were giving them. I tell you, if looks could kill, those charming little bastards would be six feet under. Once they had calmed their shit down, they looked over for the first time, Lauren and Maria had gone back to applying lipstick and finding their phones, so weren’t paying attention. I was the only one who noticed it, and I was worried

“What’s wrong?” I looked down at my dress and reached for my hair to see if anything was wrong. Lauren and Maria noticed the awkward silence and looked up to see the boys staring, then mimicked my actions.

“Yeah, what is wrong?” Lauren piped up. As we stood fussing over our clothes, the boys suddenly clicked back into reality. Apart from Liam, who still stood in the doorway, staring at Maria.

"Nothing's wrong babe" Niall said walking over and covering her cheeks in kisses, rocking her back and forth in his arms. She swatted him off and looked up at him, hurt

"Well then why are you and all you twats looking at us like we're shocking?" she pointed at the others, breaking eye contact with Niall to glare at them.

"You are shocking"

"That doesn't make your position any better, Horan" Lauren frowned, trying to stifle a smile, “and stop doing that, you’re ruining my makeup” Niall pouted, and everybody burst out laughing. He stepped away, pouting. The expression on his face melted my heart, and I ran over and gave him a big hug, telling Lauren off for upsetting ‘Little Baby Niall’. We had all been so distracted by the both of them that I didn’t realise what was going on until Louis tapped me on the shoulder and gestured for me to turn around. I did as he said and felt a smirk across my face as I was met by what we all knew would happen eventually. Liam was still stood by the door, still looking at Maria as he had been doing for the last couple of minutes, but now she was returning the look. They caught us all slightly unawares, although at the same time we were all expecting it to happen at some point during our time together. Liam, quite abruptly, began walking towards Maria with an expression of sheer determination on his face; she smiled at the last second before he reached where she was standing and they kissed, leaving us all standing awkwardly, not quite knowing where to look. They didn’t seem to care though, and after about thirty seconds Louis piped up,

“Um, do you reckon we should go now? I mean, not to interrupt anything but we kind of have to pick El up and the driver’s waiting for us all” the awkward atmosphere all of a sudden disappeared and we all burst into fits of laughter, completely relaxing. Even Liam and Maria snapped out of their all-too-mushy-but-cute-at-the-same-time trance as everybody made for the door. Having been caught up in the events of the past few minutes I had completely forgotten about Harry, who was hanging behind the rest of the group waiting for me. He gave me a small grin and wrapped his arm around my waist, his footsteps falling in sync with mine. I smiled up at him and he returned it. We walked on like that to the elevators, neither of us saying anything because there was no need to.
