Some Poems I Wrote at Vanderbilt Summer Academy

The title says it all. I wrote these at a Summer School at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee and I want to share them with the world. :)

5. Ode to my Roommate

This is an ode to my roommate Riley,

The best one I have ever had.

When I first met her she was very smiley

And her attitude was not so bad.

I thought she was going to be a girl who liked pink,

Instead she was a girl who did not.

She was dressed in dark purple because her mom said so,

And she wore black when we went to the ice rink.

She had turned out to be the roommate who I like more than a lot,

I wish I had met long ago.

She is the spitting image of the female star

From the hunger games, the one who everyone loves.

Her boyfriend thinks that she is much hotter than a sports car.

She and her boy friend look like two white doves

Flying around one giant, beautiful heart.

They sit at the lunch table together

While they get yelled for Public display of affection

And we all fall apart

Because holding hands is not like holding bad weather.

We all thank Ivan, her boyfriend, for being Riley’s one, true selection.

Riley is the best roommate I could ever receive,

I wish her goodbye on her ride back home.

I wish it was yesterday so I would not have to leave,

I love her as if she is Google chrome.

I also wrote this as a semi-cheesy birthday card,

I hope she remembers me by it.

I hope we will keep in touch.

But till then I will  break this rhyme scheme to say Adieu,

Here are the glow sticks that I had my mom send.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed knowing you,

When I come to Knoxville I will have to say hello.

Well, new friend, this is goodbye.

I will say it again.

Happy Birthday!

This was an ode to my favorite roommate ever,

Riley Hester.
