5. Curious

As we continued further down the street, music was playing from a house nearby. Once we stopped in front of the house, we were confronted by Kate. "Come here to crash this party too?" Kate had folded her arms across her chest.

"I hope you're still not mad about the beach party we crashed. Would you be a darling and let us in?" I asked her.

Amber's POV.

Louis was charming Kate once again, but this time, she wasn't falling for it. "Why? You killed like fifteen people." she said. I carefully watched Louis' movements while he talked to her. He reached out, brushing a hair strand away from her face, and then stopped to caress her cheek.

For some odd reason, I felt envious. Even as a vampire, I was jealous of Kate's beauty. I saw her nod and stand aside as Louis reached to grab her hand, then kissed the top of her knuckles. She blushed the minute he dropped her hand.

"Kate, I'm sorry for everything that happened." I told her, walking up to her.

"I know you didn't mean to do it. I forgive you." she said, pulling me into a hug as I hugged her back. She invited me into the house and I followed Louis inside. Once we were out of earshot, "What did you say to her?" I asked as Louis handed me a cup.

"We all have our own methods to get what we want." he smiled, grabbing himself a cup. "You must have guts coming in here with him." I heard Derek's voice and turned to see him standing in front of us.

"We need to talk alone Derek." I said, seeing that his friends were behind him. They were thinking they could take Louis down with their bare hands. After a few minutes, Derek agreed and I set the cup on the table. Louis touched my arm and I turned to him.

Neither of us spoke a word, but in that split second, we knew what the other was thinking. He gave a slight nod of approval before I walked away with Derek.

Derek and I went out to the backyard. It was a beautiful night and the air around us was cool. "What I did at your party was my fault. I shouldn't have gone knowing that I wouldn't be able to control myself." I said.

He looked at me confused, and I knew that he would be. "You can't tell anyone this, and you have to promise me that you won't run away from me. I need you as a friend right now. I just need to know I can trust you."

He was silent for a moment and said, "You can trust me Amber."

I took a deep breath, knowing that it was going to be hard for me to tell him my secret. Was it this difficult for Niall to tell me his secret? Well, I guess I now know how he felt. "I'm a vampire." As soon as the words left my mouth, he looked at me.

Minutes passed by and I figured that it'd be best to leave him. I turned and began walking towards the house, when he grabbed my arm. "Was that why you bit me?" he asked. I nodded, then looked down. "If you don't want to be my friend, I can leave. I'll be fine." I told him.

"Amber, I don't want you to leave. Honestly, when the guys told me the news, I didn't really believe them. I thought they were crazy at first, but they got me to believe them eventually. I still want us to be friends, and if there was anyway I could help, I would." he said.

"You really mean it?" I asked. He nodded and I wrapped my arms around him, pulling him into a hug. It was so nice to know that Derek was an understanding person. Even as a vampire, I felt that I could be myself around him and not have to worry about hiding my secret.

But then my thoughts led straight to Niall, and the way he treated me now and when I was human. As a human, Niall was more fun and carefree but now he treats me like a child. Of course what I did was wrong, but can he let it go and forgive me? I forgave him for what he did at prom. It was hard at first, but I couldn't let that bother me for the rest of my life.

We pulled away from the hug just as Louis walked over to us. "Derek, can you leave us alone for a moment?" he asked Derek. I watched Derek nod, then head back towards the house. Louis and I were alone once again, but this time, the atmosphere seemed different. It was as if there was a connection between us, and I wondered if Louis felt it as much as I did.

"Is something wrong?" I asked Louis.

In the last few years that I have known Louis, I always sensed when something was wrong with him. The look in his eyes, the tone in his voice, and the way he acted. I knew that something wasn't right. He looked at me with his bright blue eyes. He was holding something back from me, but what was it?

"Amber," he paused for a moment, then glanced down at the ground. What was he trying to tell me? I had a feeling that it was either going to be good or bad. "It's getting late. I should take you home." he said, then walked back towards the direction of the house.

I stared after him in disbelief. Of course he'd change the topic right at the last second. I followed him inside the house. We said good bye to Kate and Derek, then exited the house as we began to walk down the street.

Neither of spoke for a long time until we reached the mansion. We entered the mansion and ascended the stairs. Our rooms were on opposite ends of the hallway. We reached the top of the stairs and Louis, without saying a single word, went straight to his room and closed the door.

Something was bothering him, and I intend to find out what that was. I turned around and went to my room, closing the door behind me. Louis and I had become good friends since he turned me, but even before I was a vampire, he had always been keeping secrets from me.

I remember the day we first met, and showed "interest" in Kate when he was interested in me. Did Louis want to be with me? Was Niall an obstacle that Louis couldn't pass to get to me? So many questions ran through my mind, and some were easy to guess the answer to.

I just didn't want to jump into any conclusions. I might as well wait to see what happens.
